Abstract:Quantum integrable systems and their classical counterparts are considered. We show that the symplectic structure and invariant tori of the classical system can be deformed by a quantization parameter $\hbar$ to produce a new (classical) integrable system. The new tori selected by the $\hbar$-equidistance rule represent the spectrum of the quantum system up to $O(\hbar^\infty)$ and are invariant under quantum dynamics in the long-time range $O(\hbar^{-\infty})$. The quantum diffusion over the deformed tori is described. The analytic apparatus uses quantum action-angle coordinates explicitly constructed by an $\hbar$-deformation of the classical action-angles.

Abstract:We propose in this work a concept of integrability for quantum systems, which corresponds to the concept of noncommutative integrability for systems in classical mechanics. We determine a condition for quantum operators which can be a suitable replacement for the condition of functional independence for functions on the classical phase space. This condition is based on the properties of the main parts of the operators with respect to the momenta. We are led in this way to the definition of what we call a "quasi-integrable quantum system". This concept will be further developed in a series of following papers.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop the framework for quantum integrable systems on an integrable classical background. We call them hybrid quantum integrable systems (hybrid integrable systems), and we show that they occur naturally in the semiclassical limit of quantum integrable systems. We start with an outline of the concept of hybrid dynamical systems. Then we give several examples of hybrid integrable systems. The first series of examples is a class of hybrid integrable systems that appear in the semiclassical limit of quantum spin chains. Then we look at the semiclassical limit of the quantum spin Calogero--Moser system. The result is a hybrid integrable system driven by usual classical Calogero--Moser (CM) dynamics. This system at the fixed point of the multi-time classical dynamics CM system gives commuting spin Hamiltonians of Haldane--Shastry model.

Abstract:Classical integrable Hamiltonian systems generated by elements of the Poisson commuting ring of spectral invariants on rational coadjoint orbits of the loop algebra$$\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}}^{ + *} (2,\mathbb{R})$$ are integrated by separation of variables in the Hamilton-Jacobi equation in hyperellipsoidal coordinates. The canonically quantized systems are then shown to also be completely integrable and separable within the same coordinates. Pairs of second class constraints defining reduced phase spaces are implemented in the quantized systems by choosing one constraint as an invariant, and interpreting the other as determining a quotient (i.e. by treating one as a first class constraint and the other as a gauge condition). Completely integrable, separable systems on spheres and ellipsoids result, but those on ellipsoids require a further modification of order$$\mathcal{O}(\hbar ^2 )$$ in the commuting invariants in order to assure self-adjointness and to recover the Laplacian for the case of free motion. for each case — in the ambient space ℝn, the sphere and the ellipsoid — the Schrödinger equations are completely separated in hyperellipsoidal coordinates, giving equations of generalized Lamé type.

Abstract:We discuss the canonical structure of a class of integrable quantum mappings, i.e. iterative canonical transformations that can be interpreted as a discrete dynamical system. As particular examples we consider quantum mappings associated with the lattice analogues of the KdV and MKdV equations. These mappings possess a non-ultralocal quantum Yang-Baxter structure leading to the existence of commuting families of exact quantum invariants. We derive the associated quantum Miura transformations between these mappings and the corresponding quantum bi-Hamiltonian structure.

Abstract:Integrable probability has emerged as an active area of research at the interface of probability/mathematical physics/statistical mechanics on the one hand, and representation theory/integrable systems on the other. Informally, integrable probabilistic systems have two properties: 1) It is possible to write down concise and exact formulas for expectations of a variety of interesting observables (or functions) of the system. 2) Asymptotics of the system and associated exact formulas provide access to exact descriptions of the properties and statistics of large universality classes and universal scaling limits for disordered systems. We focus here on examples of integrable probabilistic systems related to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class and explain how their integrability stems from connections with symmetric function theory and quantum integrable systems.

Abstract:Various aspects of the theory of quantum integrable systems are reviewed. Basic ideas behind the construction of integrable ultralocal and nonultralocal quantum models are explored by exploiting the underlying algebraic structures related to the Yang-Baxter equations. Physical meaning of abstract mathematical notions like universal R-matrix, quantized algebras, Sklyanin algebra, braided algebra, Hopf algebra etc. and the role played by them in integrable systems are highlighted. Systematic construction of quantum integrable lattice as well as field models and their exact excitation spectra are presented through examples. The coordinate and algebraic formulations of the Bethe ansatz are illustrated with comparison, along with the description of nested and functional Bethe ansatzes. The techniques for deriving quantum Hamiltonians from the Lax operators are demonstrated on concrete models. The exposition of this review is kept in a fairly elementary level with emphasis on the physical contents.

Abstract:In this paper the quantum integrals of the Hamiltonian of the quantum many‐body problem with the interaction potential K/sinh2(x) (Sutherland operator) are constructed as images of higher Casimirs of the Lie algebragl(N) under a certain homomorphism from the center of U (gl(N)) to the algebra of differential operators in N variables. A similar construction applied to the affine gl(N) at the critical level k=−N defines a correspondence between higher Sugawara operators and quantum integrals of the Hamiltonian of the quantum many‐body problem with the potential equal to constant times the Weierstrass function. This allows one to give a new proof of the Olshanetsky–Perelomov theorem stating that this Hamiltonian defines a completely integrable quantum system. A new expression is also given for eigenfunctions of the quantum integrals of the Sutherland operator as traces of intertwining operators between certain representations of gl(N).

Abstract:Recently, a hydrodynamic description of local equilibrium dynamics in quantum integrable systems was discovered. In the diffusionless limit, this is equivalent to a certain 'Bethe–Boltzmann' kinetic equation, which has the form of an integro-differential conservation law in D. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the sense in which the Bethe–Boltzmann equation defines an 'integrable kinetic equation'. To this end, we study a class of N dimensional systems of evolution equations that arise naturally as finite-dimensional approximations to the Bethe–Boltzmann equation. We obtain non-local Poisson brackets and Hamiltonian densities for these equations and derive an infinite family of first integrals, parameterized by N functional degrees of freedom. We find that the conserved charges arising from quantum integrability map to Casimir invariants of the hydrodynamic bracket and their group velocities map to Hamiltonian flows. Some results from the finite-dimensional setting extend to the underlying integro-differential equation, providing evidence for its integrability in the hydrodynamic sense.

Abstract:The conventional theory of hydrodynamics describes the evolution in time of chaotic many-particle systems from local to global equilibrium. In a quantum integrable system, local equilibrium is characterized by a local generalized Gibbs ensemble or equivalently a local distribution of pseudomomenta. We study time evolution from local equilibria in such models by solving a certain kinetic equation, the "Bethe-Boltzmann" equation satisfied by the local pseudomomentum density. Explicit comparison with density matrix renormalization group time evolution of a thermal expansion in the XXZ model shows that hydrodynamical predictions from smooth initial conditions can be remarkably accurate, even for small system sizes. Solutions are also obtained in the Lieb-Liniger model for free expansion into vacuum and collisions between clouds of particles, which model experiments on ultracold one-dimensional Bose gases.

Abstract:This thesis studies the role of free fermions in certain classical and quantum integrable models. The classical models studied are the KP and BKP hierarchies of partial differential equations. We review the presence of free fermions in the theory of these hierarchies, a topic which was established in the work of the Kyoto school. The quantum models studied are descendents and relatives of the XYZ model, or its lattice equivalent, the eight-vertex model. We give a number of new results in the context of these models, revealing the presence of fermions in typical quantities such as Bethe eigenvectors, partition functions and scalar products.

Abstract:The subject of this paper is degenerate integrability in Hamiltonian mechanics. We start with a short survey of degenerate integrability. The first section contains basic notions. It is followed by a number of examples which include the Kepler system, Casimir models, spin Calogero models, spin Ruijsenaars models, and integrable models on symplectic leaves of Poisson Lie groups. The new results are degenerate integrability of relativistic spin Ruijsenaars and Calogero–Moser systems and the duality between them. Bibliography: 30 titles.

Abstract:We investigate quantum integrals of motion in the sine-Gordon, Zhiber-Shabat and similar systems. When the coupling constants in these models take special values a new quantum symmetry appears. In those cases, correlation functions can be obtained, and they have a power law behavior.

Abstract:We consider some examples of quantum super-integrable systems and the associated nonlinear extensions of Lie algebras. The intimate relationship between super-integrability and exact solvability is illustrated. Eigenfunctions are constructed through the action of the commuting operators. Finite dimensional representations of the quadratic algebras are thus constructed in a way analogous to that of the highest weight representations of Lie algebras.

Abstract:An impossibility theorem on approximately simulating quantum non-integrable Hamiltonian systems is presented here. This result shows that there is a trade-off between the unitary property and the energy expectation conservation law in time-discretization of quantum non-integrable systems, whose classical counterpart is Ge-Marsden’s impossibility result about simulating classically non-integrable Hamiltonian systems using integration schemes preserving symplectic (Lie-Poisson) property.

Abstract:Quantization of a toy model of a pseudointegrable Hamiltonian impact system is introduced, including EBK quantization conditions, a verification of Weyl's law, the study of their wavefunctions and a study of their energy levels properties. It is demonstrated that the energy levels statistics are similar to those of pseudointegrable billiards. Yet, here, the density of wavefunctions which concentrate on projections of classical level sets to the configuration space does not disappear at large energies, suggesting that there is no equidistribution in the configuration space in the large energy limit; this is shown analytically for some limit symmetric cases and is demonstrated numerically for some nonsymmetric cases.
