Abstract:In this paper, by using an almost increasing and $\delta$-quasi-monotone sequence, a general theorem on $\phi-{\mid{C},\alpha\mid}_k$ summability factors, which generalizes a result of Bor \cite{3} on ${\phi-\mid{C},1\mid}_k$ summability factors, has been proved under weaker and more general conditions.

Abstract:This short and simple communication is motivated by recent papers by L. Colzani and A. Kochergin. We give a brief analysis of an example by Poincaré related to sums of the type $ \sum_{k=0}^{t-1} f(k{\alpha}+{x})$ where $f$ is a continuous periodic function and $\alpha$ is irrationaland its recent generalisations. Most of the constructions under consideration are well-known. In this note, we just wanted to bring all the results together and give a general and improved multi-dimensional formulation of a recent result by A. Kochergin, prove non-existence of a universal continuous function and discuss some of the related results in terms of Diophantine Approximation. In particular, in our opinion smoothness results involving Diophantine exponents $\omega$, $\hat{\omega}$ and $\hat{\lambda}$ had never been documented before.

Abstract:We prove a quantitative version of the Duffin-Schaeffer conjecture with an almost sharp error term. Precisely, let $\psi:\mathbb{N}\to[0,1/2]$ be a function such that the series $\sum_{q=1}^\infty \varphi(q)\psi(q)/q$ diverges. In addition, given $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}$ and $Q\geqslant1$, let $N(\alpha;Q)$ be the number of coprime pairs $(a,q)\in\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{N}$ with $q\leqslant Q$ and $|\alpha-a/q|<\psi(q)/q$. Lastly, let $\Psi(Q)=\sum_{q\leqslant Q}2\varphi(q)\psi(q)/q$, which is the expected value of $N(\alpha;Q)$ when $\alpha$ is uniformly chosen from $[0, 1]$. We prove that $N(\alpha;Q)=\Psi(Q)+O_{\alpha,\varepsilon}(\Psi(Q)^{1/2+\varepsilon})$ for almost all $\alpha$ (in the Lebesgue sense) and for every fixed $\varepsilon>0$. This improves upon results of Koukoulopoulos-Maynard and of Aistleitner-Borda-Hauke.

The novel Tauberian conditions associated with the $(\overline{N},p,q)$ summability of double sequences

Abstract:In this paper, our primary objective is to provide a fresh perspective on the relationship between the $(\overline{N},p,q)$ method, which is a product of relevant one-dimensional summability methods, and $P$-convergence for double sequences. To accomplish this objective, we establish certain Tauberian conditions that control the behavior of a double sequence in terms of both $O_L$-oscillation and $O$-oscillation in certain senses, building a bridge between $(\overline{N},p,q)$ summability and $P$-convergence, while imposing certain restrictions on the weight sequences. As special circumstances of our findings, we demonstrate that Landau-type $O_L$ condition with respect to $(P_m)$ and $(Q_n),$ as well as Hardy-type $O$ condition with respect to $(P_m)$ and $(Q_n),$ serve as Tauberian conditions for $(\overline{N},p,q)$ summability under particular additional conditions. Consequently, these results encompass all classical Tauberian theorems, including conditions such as slow decrease or slow oscillation in certain senses.

Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a bounded set of operators from $Z$ to $X$ with the following property: a bounded sequence $(z_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ in $Z$ is weakly null if, for each $M \in \mathcal{M}$, the sequence $(M(z_n))_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ is weakly null. Let $(z_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ be a sequence in $Z$ such that: (a) for each $n\in \mathbb{N}$, the set $\{M(z_n):M\in \mathcal{M}\}$ is relatively norm compact; (b) for each sequence $(M_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ in $\mathcal{M}$, the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty M_n(z_n)$ is weakly unconditionally Cauchy. We prove that if $T\in \mathcal{M}$ is Dunford-Pettis and $\inf_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\|T(z_n)\|\|z_n\|^{-1}>0$, then the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty T(z_n)$ is absolutely convergent. As an application, we provide another proof of the fact that a countably additive vector measure taking values in an Asplund Banach space has finite variation whenever its integration operator is Dunford-Pettis.

Abstract:The following problem is studied in this paper: Which multipliers $\{\lambda_{k, n}\}$ ensure the convergence, as $n\to \infty$, of the linear means of the Fourier series of functions $f\in L_1[-\pi, \pi]$ $$ \sum_{k=-\infty}^\infty \lambda_{k, n}\hat{f}_k e^{ikx}, $$ where $\widehat{f}_k$ is the $k$-th Fourier coefficient, at a point at which the derivative of the function $\int_0^x f$ exists. A criterion for the convergence of the $(C, 1)$-means ($\lambda_{k, n}=(1-\frac {|k|}{n+1})_+$) is found, while in the general case $\lambda_{k, n}=\phi(\frac {k}{n+1})$ a sufficient condition is derived for the convergence at all such points (that is, almost everywhere). The answer is given in terms of the belonging of $\phi(x)$ and $x\phi'(x)$ to the Wiener algebra of absolutely convergent Fourier integrals. The obtained results are supplemented by some examples.

Abstract:Given a monotonically decreasing $\psi: \mathbb{N} \to [0,\infty)$, Khintchine's Theorem provides an efficient tool to decide whether, for almost every $\alpha \in \mathbb{R}$, there are infinitely many $(p,q) \in \mathbb{Z}^2$ such that $\left\lvert \alpha - \frac{p}{q}\right\rvert \leq \frac{\psi(q)}{q}$. The recent result of Koukoulopoulos and Maynard provides an elegant way of removing monotonicity when only counting reduced fractions. Gallagher showed a multiplicative higher-dimensional generalization to Khintchine's Theorem, again assuming monotonicity. In this article, we prove the following Duffin-Schaeffer-type result for multiplicative approximations: For any $k\geq 1$, any function $\psi: \mathbb{N} \to [0,1/2]$ (not necessarily monotonic) and almost every $\alpha \in \mathbb{R}^k$, there exist infinitely many $q$ such that $\prod\limits_{i=1}^k \left\lvert \alpha_i - \frac{p_i}{q}\right\rvert \leq \frac{\psi(q)}{q^k}, p_1,\ldots,p_k$ all coprime to $q$, if and only if \[\sum\limits_{q \in \mathbb{N}} \psi(q) \left(\frac{\varphi(q)}{q} \right)^k\log \left(\frac{q}{\varphi(q)\psi(q)}\right)^{k-1} = \infty.\] This settles a conjecture of Beresnevich, Haynes, and Velani.

On almost convergence on locally compact abelian groups

Abstract:We study a summability method called almost convergence for bounded measurable functions defined on a locally compact abelian group. We define almost convergence using topologically invariant means and exhibit two different kinds of necessary and sufficient conditions, one is analytic and the other is functional analytic, for a given function to be almost convergent. As an application, we show complex Tauberian theorems for almost convergence on the integers and the real numbers. In particular, the latter one can be viewed as an analogue of the Wiener-Ikehara theorem.

Abstract:We prove near-optimal upper bounds for the odd moments of the distribution of coprime residues in short intervals, confirming a conjecture of Montgomery and Vaughan. As an application we prove near-optimal upper bounds for the average of the refined singular series in the Hardy-Littlewood conjectures concerning the number of prime $k$-tuples for $k$ odd. The main new ingredient is a near-optimal upper bound for the number of solutions to $\sum_{1\leq i\leq k}\frac{a_i}{q_i}\in \mathbb{Z}$ when $k$ is odd, with $(a_i,q_i)=1$ and restrictions on the size of the numerators and denominators, that is of independent interest.

Abstract:A definition of summability is put forward in the framework of general Carleman ultraholomorphic classes in sectors, so generalizing $k-$summability theory as developed by J.-P. Ramis. Departing from a strongly regular sequence of positive numbers, we construct an associated analytic proximate order and corresponding kernels, which allow us to consider suitable Laplace and Borel-type transforms, both formal and analytic, whose behavior closely resembles that of the classical ones in the Gevrey case. An application to the study of the summability properties of the formal solutions to some moment-partial differential equations is included.

Abstract:Assume that $\alpha>1$ is an algebraic number and $\xi\neq0$ is a real number. We are concerned with the distribution of the fractional parts of the sequence $(\xi \alpha^{n})$. Under various Diophantine conditions on $\xi$ and $\alpha$, we obtain lower bounds on the number $n$ with $1\leq n\leq N $ for which the fractional part of the sequence $(\xi \alpha^{n})_{n\geq1}$ fall into a prescribed region $I\subset [0,1]$, extending several results in the literature. As an application, we show that the Fourier decay rate of some self-similar measures is logarithmic, generalizing a result of Varjú and Yu.

Abstract:Given a compact subset $\Sigma \subset \mathbb{R}$ (or $\mathbb{C}$) with logarithmic capacity greater than zero, we construct an explicit family of probability measures supported on $\Sigma$ such that their closure is all the possible weak limit measures of complete sets of conjugate algebraic integers lying inside $\Sigma$. We give an asymptotic formula for the number of algebraic integers with given degree and prescribed distribution. We exploit the algorithmic nature of our approach to give a family of upper bounds that converges to the smallest limiting trace-to-degree ratio of totally positive algebraic integers and improve the best previously known upper bound on the Schur-Siegel-Smyth trace problem to 1.8216.

Abstract:A symmetrized lattice of $2n$ points in terms of an irrational real number $\alpha$ is considered in the unit square, as in the theorem of Davenport. If $\alpha$ is a quadratic irrational, the square of the $L^2$ discrepancy is found to be $c( \alpha ) \log n + O \left( \log \log n \right)$ for a computable positive constant $c( \alpha )$. For the golden ratio $\varphi$, the value $\sqrt{c (\varphi ) \log n}$ yields the smallest $L^2$ discrepancy of any sequence of explicitly constructed finite point sets in the unit square. If the partial quotients $a_k$ of $\alpha$ grow at most polynomially fast, the $L^2$ discrepancy is found in terms of $a_k$ up to an explicitly bounded error term. It is also shown that certain generalized Dedekind sums can be approximated using the same methods. For a special generalized Dedekind sum with arguments $a, b$ an asymptotic formula in terms of the partial quotients of $\frac{a}{b}$ is proved.
