Abstract:We deal with compact Kähler manifolds $M$ acted on by a compact Lie group $K$ of isometries, whose complexification $K^\C$ has exactly one open and one closed orbit in $M$. If the $K$-action is Hamiltonian, we obtain results on the cohomology and the $K$-equivariant cohomology of $M$.

Abstract:We treat two quite different problems related to changes of complex structures on Kähler manifolds by using global geometric method. First, by using operators from Hodge theory on compact Kähler manifold, we present a closed explicit extension formula for holomorphic canonical forms in different complex structures. As applications, we give a closed explicit formula for certain canonical sections of Hodge bundles on marked and polarized moduli spaces of projective manifolds, and provide a closed explicit extension formula for holomorphic pluricanonical forms under certain natural conditions. Second, by using the operators in L^2-Hodge theory on Poincaré disk, we present a simple and unified method to solve the Beltrami equations with measurable coefficients for quasi-conformal maps.

Abstract:We define and invariant of a three manifold equipped with a flat bundle with vanishing homology. The construction is based on Morse theory using several Morse functions simultaneously and is regarded as a higher loop analogue of various product operations in algebraic topology. There is a heuristic argument that this invariant is related to perturbative Chern-Simons Gauge theory by Axelrod-Singer, etc. There is also a theorem which gives a relation of the construction to open string theory on the cotangent bundle.

Abstract:By studying spaces of flow graphs in a closed oriented manifold, we construct operations on its cohomology, parametrized by the homology of the moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces with boundary marked points. We show that the operations satisfy the gluing axiom of an open homological conformal field theory. This complements previous constructions due to R. Cohen et al., K. Costello and M. Kontsevich and is also the Morse theoretic counterpart to a conjectural construction of operations on the Lagrangian Floer homology of the zero section of a cotangent bundle, obtained by studying uncompactified moduli spaces of higher genus pseudoholomorphic curves.

Abstract:Morelli's computation of the K-theory of a toric variety X associates a polyhedrally constructible function on a real vector space to every equivariant vector bundle E on X. The coherent-constructible correspondence lifts Morelli's constructible function to a complex of constructible sheaves kappa(E). We show that certain filtrations of the cohomology of kappa(E) coming from Morse theory coincide with the Klyachko filtrations of the generic stalk of E. We give Morse-theoretic (i.e. microlocal) conditions for a complex of constructible sheaves to correspond to a vector bundle, and to a nef vector bundle.

Abstract:We introduce a version of discrete Morse theory for posets. This theory studies the topology of the order complexes K(X) of h-regular posets X from the critical points of admissible matchings on X. Our approach is related to R. Formanʼs discrete Morse theory for CW-complexes and generalizes Forman and Chariʼs results on the face posets of regular CW-complexes. We also introduce a homological variant of the theory that can be used to study the topology of triangulable homology manifolds by means of their order triangulations.

Abstract:Recent constructions have shown that interesting behaviours can be observed in the finiteness properties of Kähler groups and their subgroups. In this work, we push this further and exhibit, for each integer $k$, new hyperbolic groups admiting surjective homomorphisms to $\mathbb{Z}$ and to $\mathbb{Z}^{2}$, whose kernel is of type $\mathscr{F}_{k}$ but not of type $\mathscr{F}_{k+1}$. By a fibre product construction, we also find examples of nonnormal subgroups of Kähler groups with exotic finiteness properties.

Morse theory on Lie groupoids

Abstract:In this paper we introduce Morse Lie groupoid morphisms and study their main properties. We show that this notion is Morita invariant which gives rise to a well defined notion of Morse function on differentiable stacks. We show a groupoid version of the Morse lemma which is used to describe the topological behavior of the critical subgroupoid levels of a Morse Lie groupoid morphism around its nondegenerate critical orbits. We also prove Morse type inequalities for certain separated differentiable stacks and construct a Morse double complex whose total cohomology is isomorphic to the Bott-Shulman-Stasheff cohomology of the underlying Lie groupoid. We provide several examples and applications.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Let $(M,I,J,K,\Omega)$ be a compact HKT manifold, and let us denote with $\partial$ the conjugate Dolbeault operator with respect to I, $\partial_J:=J^{-1}\overline\partial J$, $\partial^\Lambda:=[\partial,\Lambda]$, where Λ is the adjoint of $L:=\Omega\wedge-$. Under suitable assumptions, we study Hodge theory for the complexes $(A^{\bullet,0},\partial,\partial_J)$ and $(A^{\bullet,0},\partial,\partial^\Lambda)$ showing a similar behavior to Kähler manifolds. In particular, several relations among the Laplacians, the spaces of harmonic forms and the associated cohomology groups, together with Hard Lefschetz properties, are proved. Moreover, we show that for a compact HKT $\mathrm{SL}(n,\mathbb{H})$-manifold, the differential graded algebra $(A^{\bullet,0},\partial)$ is formal and this will lead to an obstruction for the existence of an HKT $\mathrm{SL}(n,\mathbb{H})$ structure $(I,J,K,\Omega)$ on a compact complex manifold (M, I). Finally, balanced HKT structures on solvmanifolds are studied.

Discrete Morse Theory for Khovanov Homology

Abstract:The standard methods for calculating Khovanov homology rely either on long exact/spectral sequences or on the algorithmic "divide and conquer" approach developed by Bar-Natan. In this paper, we employ an alternative and arguably simpler tool, discrete Morse theory, which is new in the context of knot homologies. The method is applied for 2- and 3-torus braids in Bar-Natan's dotted cobordism category, where Khovanov complexes of tangles live. This grants a recursive description of the complexes of 2- and 3-torus braids yielding an inductive result on integral Khovanov homology of links containing those braids. The result, accompanied with some computer data, advances the recent progress on a conjecture by Przytycki and Sazdanović which claims that closures of 3-braids only have 2-torsion in their Khovanov homology.

On the geometry of Kähler--Frobenius manifolds and their classification

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to show that flat compact Kähler manifolds exhibit the structure of a Frobenius manifold, a structure originating in 2D Topological Quantum Field Theory and closely related to Joyce structure. As a result, we classify all such manifolds. It can be deduced that Kähler--Frobenius manifolds include certain Calabi--Yau manifolds, complex tori $T=\mathbb{C}^n/\mathbb{Z}^n$, Hantzsche--Wendt manifolds, hyperelliptic manifolds and manifolds of type $T/G$, where $G$ is a finite group acting on $T$ freely and containing no translations. An explicit study is provided for the two-dimensional case. Additionally, we can prove that Chern's conjecture for Kähler pre-Frobenius manifolds holds. Lastly, we establish that certain classes of Kähler-Frobenius manifolds share a direct relationship with theta functions which are important objects in number theory as well as complex analysis.

Hyperkähler torsion structures invariant by nilpotent Lie groups

Abstract:We study HKT structures on nilpotent Lie groups and on associated nilmanifolds. We exhibit three weak HKT structures on $\R^8$ which are homogeneous with respect to extensions of Heisenberg type Lie groups. The corresponding hypercomplex structures are of a special kind, called abelian. We prove that on any 2-step nilpotent Lie group all invariant HKT structures arise from abelian hypercomplex structures. Furthermore, we use a correspondence between abelian hypercomplex structures and subspaces of ${\frak sp}(n)$ to produce continuous families of compact and noncompact of manifolds carrying non isometric HKT structures. Finally, geometrical properties of invariant HKT structures on 2-step nilpotent Lie groups are obtained.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a finite d-valent graph and G an n-dimensional torus. An ``action'' of G on $\Gamma$ is defined by a map, $\alpha$, which assigns to each oriented edge e of $\Gamma$ a one-dimensional representation of G (or, alternatively, a weight, $\alpha_e$, in the weight lattice of G). For the assignment, $e \to \alpha_e$, to be a schematic description of a ``G-action'', these weights have to satisfy certain compatibility conditions: the GKM axioms. We attach to $(\Gamma, \alpha)$ an equivariant cohomology ring, $H_G(\Gamma)=H(\Gamma,\alpha)$. By definition this ring contains the equivariant cohomology ring of a point, $\SS(\fg^*) = H_G(pt)$, as a subring, and in this paper we will use graphical versions of standard Morse theoretical techniques to analyze the structure of $H_G(\Gamma)$ as an $\SS(\fg^*)$-module.

Abstract:A $p$-Kähler structure on a complex manifold of complex dimension $n$ is given by a $d$-closed transverse real $(p,p)$-form. In the paper we study the existence of $p$-Kähler structures on compact quotients of simply connected Lie groups by discrete subgroups endowed with an invariant complex structure. In particular, we discuss the existence of $p$-Kähler structures on nilmanifolds, with a focus on the case $p =2$ and complex dimension $n = 4$. Moreover, we prove that a $(n-2)$-Kähler almost abelian solvmanifold of complex dimension $n\geq3$ has to be Kähler.
