Abstract:In today's world, product design must go beyond function and address consumers' emotional and psychological well-being. This calls for a comprehensive strategy that includes design psychology into the fabric of human-computer interaction interfaces. Understanding human behavior and perception allows designers to develop interfaces that connect with people on a deeper level. The term "Psychology of Design" emphasizes the necessity of studying how human perception effects the design and function of things. It recognizes that design is more than just aesthetics; it is also about how consumers perceive and interact with the product. Integrating psychology into design philosophy represents a paradigm change, acknowledging that good design goes beyond addressing fundamental requirements and involves developing emotional connections. Abstract:Experimental computer systems research typically ignores the end-user, modeling him, if at all, in overly simple ways. We argue that this (1) results in inadequate performance evaluation of the systems, and (2) ignores opportunities. We summarize our experiences with (a) directly evaluating user satisfaction and (b) incorporating user feedback in different areas of client/server computing, and use our experiences to motivate principles for that domain. Specifically, we report on user studies to measure user satisfaction with resource borrowing and with different clock frequencies in desktop computing, the development and evaluation of user interfaces to integrate user feedback into scheduling and clock frequency decisions in this context, and results in predicting user action and system response in a remote display system. We also present initial results on extending our work to user control of scheduling and mapping of virtual machines in a virtualization-based distributed computing environment. We then generalize (a) and (b) as recommendations for incorporating the user into experimental computer systems research.

Abstract:Donald Norman's new book 'Things That Make Us Smart' develops the themes raised earlier in his 'The Psychology of Everyday Things' (POET). POET was concerned with the ways in which designed things can help or hinder us in completing everyday activities like opening doors, operating drinks machines, or using the bathroom. He convincingly showed how many of our artifacts are badly designed for their purpose and spelled out what this says about the attitudes of their designers. He pointed out that a misunderstanding of the way people interact with artifacts, an inappropriate machine-centred approach to design, results in a pathological combination of person and machine leading to frustration, inefficiency and danger. This message was brought home with a series of entertaining anecdotes that partly explains why the book was so popular.

Abstract:The attention aware system is such a human-computer interaction system that aims to support users in better maintaining or switching their attention focus in the multi-task context.Attention aware systems are designed based on the theories of cognitive psychology and cognitive ergonomics.This paper offers a review of the current approach to attention aware systems,which is composed of three parts:to detect user's current attentional state,to make an evaluation of user's interruptibility and to optimize the style of notifications.Finally,the paper discusses the most promising research direction for development of attention aware systems

Abstract:Studies have revealed usability problems with universal design resources (UDRs). In this paper, four UDR development cases are reviewed (Section 508 standards, Web accessibility guidelines, the British Standard on managing inclusive design, and Irish guidelines on public access terminals). Evidence of a user-centered design approach was found in only one case. The needs of people making universally usable products and services in industry are discussed in the context of the use of UDRs and results of organizational research studies. Nine recommendations are made on the development of user-centered UDRs and the setup and management of accessibility teams in organizations.

Abstract:Nowadays modern information systems (emerging technologies) are increasingly becoming an integral part of our daily lives and has begun to pose a serious challenge for human-computer interaction (HCI) professionals, as emerging technologies in the area of mobile and cloud computing, and internet of things (IoT), are calling for more devotion from HCI experts in terms of systems interface design. As the number of mobile platforms users, nowadays comprises of children’s, elderly people, and people with disabilities or disorders, all demanding for an effective user interface that can meet their diverse needs, even on the move, at anytime and anywhere. This paper, review current articles (43) related to HCI interface design approaches to modern information systems design with the aim of identifying and determining the effectiveness of these methods. The study found that the current HCI design approaches were based on desktop paradigm which falls short of providing location-based services to mobile platforms users. The study also discovered that almost all the current interface design standard used by HCI experts for the design of user’s interface were not effective & supportive of emerging technologies due to the flexibility nature of these technologies. Based on the review findings, the study suggested the combination of Human-centred design with agile methodologies for interface design, and call on future works to use qualitative or quantitative approach to further investigate HCI methods of interface design with much emphasis on cloud-based technologies and other organizational information systems.

Abstract:Human-computer interface management , from a computer science viewpoint, focuses on the process of developing quality human-computer interfaces, including their representation, design, implementation, execution, evaluation, and maintenance. This survey presents important concepts of interface management: dialogue independence, structural modeling, representation, interactive tools, rapid prototyping, development methodologies, and control structures. Dialogue independence is the keystone concept upon which all the other concepts depend. It is a characteristic that separates design of the interface from design of the computational component of an application system so that modifications in either tend not to cause changes in the other. The role of a dialogue developer, whose main purpose is to create quality interfaces, is a direct result of the dialogue independence concept. Structural models of the human-computer interface serve as frameworks for understanding the elements of interfaces and for guiding the dialogue developer in their construction. Representation of the human-computer interface is accomplished by a variety of notational schemes for describing the interface. Numerous kinds of interactive tools for human-computer interface development free the dialogue developer from much of the tedium of "coding" dialogue. The early ability to observe behavior of the interface—and indeed that of the whole application system—provided by rapid prototyping increases communication among system designers, implementers, evaluators, and end-users. Methodologies for interactive system development consider interface management to be an integral part of the overall development process and give emphasis to evaluation in the development life cycle. Finally, several types of control structures govern how sequencing among dialogue and computational components is designed and executed. Numerous systems for human-computer interface management are presented t o illustrate these concepts.

Abstract:Methodology, theory, and practice in the field of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) all share the goal of producing interactive software that can be used efficiently, effectively, safely, and with satisfaction. HCI is cross-disciplinary in its conduct and multidisciplinary in its roots. The central concept of HCI is usability, ease of use plus usefulness. Achieving good usability requires attention to both product and development process, particularly for the user interaction design, which should serve as requirements for the user interface software component. This paper reviews some of the theory and modeling supporting the practice of HCI, development life cycles and activities, and much of the practice that constitutes “usability engineering”. Future application areas of interest in HCI include new interaction styles, virtual environments, the World Wide Web, information visualization, and wearable computing.

Abstract:The History of HCI is briefly reviewed together with three HCI models and structure including CSCW, CSCL and CSCR. It is shown that a number of authorities consider HCI to be a fragmented discipline with no agreed set of unifying design principles. An analysis of usability criteria based upon citation frequency of authors is performed in order to discover the eight most recognised HCI principles.

Abstract:Starting from the design philosophy of "user-centered design", this paper analyzes the human factors characteristics of intelligent human-computer interaction (iHCI) and proposes a concept of "user-oriented iHCI". The paper further proposes a new human factors framework for iHCI based on the theories of joint cognitive systems, situation awareness, and intelligent agents. With the help of the concept and framework, the paper analyzes the human factors issues in the ecosystem of autonomous vehicle co-driving and proposes an initial human factors solution. Finally, the paper analyzes the two important research areas in iHCI (i.e., user intention recognition, human-computer collaboration) and points out the key human factors questions for future research.

Abstract:Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary field in which psychology and other social sciences unite with computer science and related technical fields with the goal of making computing systems that are both useful and usable. It is a blend of applied and basic research, both drawing from psychological research and contributing new ideas to it. New technologies continuously challenge HCI researchers with new options, as do the demands of new audiences and uses. A variety of usability methods have been developed that draw upon psychological principles. HCI research has expanded beyond its roots in the cognitive processes of individual users to include social and organizational processes involved in computer usage in real environments as well as the use of computers in collaboration. HCI researchers need to be mindful of the longer-term changes brought about by the use of computing in a variety of venues.

Abstract:Human–computer interaction (HCI) is the area of intersection between psychology and the social sciences, on the one hand, and computer science and technology, on the other. HCI researchers analyse and design-specific user-interface technologies (e.g. three-dimensional pointing devices, interactive video). They study and improve the processes of technology development (e.g. usability evaluation, design rationale). They develop and evaluate new applications of technology (e.g. computer conferencing, software design environments). Through the past two decades, HCI has progressively integrated its scientific concerns with the engineering goal of improving theusabilityof computer systems and applications, thus establishing a body of technical knowledge and methodology. HCI continues to provide a challenging test domain for applying and developing psychology and social science in the context of technology development and use.
