Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of the PAUL glaucoma implant (PGI) and Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) in patients with secondary glaucoma caused due to silicone oil emulsification. Materials and Methods: A retrospective examination was conducted using the medical records of 36 patients who developed secondary glaucoma due to silicone oil emulsification following vitreoretinal surgery and then underwent PGI and AGV implantation surgery. The main outcome measures in the PGI and AGV groups were intraocular pressure (IOP) and its change, the number of anti-glaucoma medications, and postoperative complications during the 12-month follow-up period. IOP of <6 mmHg is used to define hypotonia. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the patients who underwent PGI and AGV surgery in terms of IOP averages both preoperatively and postoperatively on day 1, week 1, month 1, month 3, month 6, and month 12 ( P >0.05). Before PGI and AGV implantation, the mean IOP was 40±13 mmHg and 39.3±10 mmHg, and the mean number of medications was 3.8±0.4 and 4±0, respectively. At the end of the 12-month follow-up period, the mean IOP was 13.5±2.2 ( P <0,001) mmHg and 14.9±4.2 ( P <0,001) mmHg, while the mean number of glaucoma medications decreased to 1.7±1.3 ( P <0,001) and 1.9±1.8 ( P <0,001) in the PGI and AGV groups, respectively. Surgical success was achieved in 17 of 18 eyes (94%) in the PGI group and 16 of 18 eyes (89%) in the AGV group. Conclusions: Although the outcomes were similar in both the PGI and AGV groups, complications requiring medical and surgical intervention were less common in the PGI group. Longer-term studies with a larger sample size are needed to demonstrate superiority or equivalence of these procedures.

Abstract:Purpose: Teaching and training of glaucoma fellows on the technique of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation surgery is very important. The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical outcomes and complications of AGV surgery performed by glaucoma fellows of a tertiary eye center from eastern India. Methods: This was a retrospective study based on electronic medical records. Thirty-five eyes operated with AGV by five glaucoma fellows from January 2016 to November 2020 were included. Best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), and number of antiglaucoma medications (AGMs) were the study outcome measures. Results: The mean (±standard deviation) age of the patients was 40.5 (±19.7) years. The follow-up period was 24.37 (±13.01) months. Both complete success (IOP <21 mmHg without additional AGM) and qualified success (IOP 21 mmHg with AGM beyond 3 months) in seven eyes. Despite a high rate of failure of the primary surgery, with the consultants’ intervention, there was statistically significant improvement in vision and IOP in all patients ( P < 0.01) at the last follow-up. Conclusion: AGV implantation is a challenging surgical skill to be acquired by the glaucoma fellows.

Long-term results of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation with/without intravitreal anti-VEGF injection in neovascular glaucoma patients

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation with or without anti-VEGF injections in neovascular glaucoma patients. Materials and methods: This single-center retrospective study assessed NVG patients who underwent AGV implantation with or without anti-VEGF injections. Demographic and clinical data, including ocular findings, intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuity, and glaucoma medication count, were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively at one day, one month, and one year. The study included 35 patients. Group 1 consisted of 23 patients who received anti-VEGF injections before AGV surgery. Group 2, with 12 patients, had no anti-VEGF injections prior to surgery. Successful surgery was defined as IOP values between 6 and 21mmHg. The primary outcome was a 30% or more reduction in IOP. Results: The groups displayed no significant difference in their demographic or clinical profiles (P>0.05). The visual acuity before and one year after surgery did not differ significantly between the groups. However, IOP values significantly decreased by the end of the one-year follow-up for both groups. No significant differences were found between the groups regarding visual acuity, IOP, or the number of medications during the one-year follow-up (P>0.05). Success rates were 95.7% for Group 1 and 91.7% for Group 2. No significant difference in complications between the groups was observed (P>0.05). Conclusion: Anti-VEGF injections prior to AGV implantation did not significantly impact visual acuity, IOP values, or medication count during the one-year follow-up.
Ahmed Glaucoma Valves versus EX-PRESS Devices in Glaucoma Secondary to Silicone Oil Emulsification

Abstract:Objective . To evaluate and compare the clinical effects of Ahmed glaucoma valves (AGVs) and EX-PRESS implants on glaucoma secondary to silicone oil (SO) emulsification. Methods . A retrospective case-series study was designed. A total of 23 eyes with late intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation secondary to SO emulsification were included in the study. Antiglaucoma surgery with implantation of AGVs or EX-PRESS devices was performed. Pre- and postoperative ocular parameters were recorded at each visit during a 1-year follow-up period. The rates of complete success (IOP < 21 mmHg without medication) and qualified success (IOP < 21 mmHg with ≤3 glaucoma medications) were analyzed. Results . A total of 14 eyes underwent AGV implantation, and 9 underwent EX-PRESS implantation. The mean IOP and number of medications used at the last follow-up decreased significantly compared with that before surgery ( P < 0.001 ). The total success rate for all eyes including complete success (7/23) and qualified success (7/23) was 60.9% (14/23) at 1 year. The total success rate in the AGV group was 78.6% (11/14), whereas it was 33.3% (3/9) in the EX-PRESS group; the difference between the 2 groups was significant ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusion . For glaucoma secondary to SO emulsification, glaucoma implants could be effective at lowering IOP, and AGVs might produce better outcomes than EX-PRESS devices.

Abstract:PurposeThe aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) in eyes with Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) and glaucoma and evaluate the risk factors for failure.MethodsRetrospective interventional study included 27 eyes (27 subjects) that underwent AGV implantation following DSEK. The main outcome measure was AGV success, defined as IOP between 6 and 21 mmHg with or without topical antiglaucoma medications (AGMs). Secondary outcome measure was graft survival. Graft failure was defined as corneal edema for ≥ 1 month or irreversible graft opacity requiring intervention.ResultsEighteen eyes (66.7%) had anterior chamber tube and 9 eyes (33.3%) had sulcus tube placement. Median follow-up was 1.2 years (interquartile range, IQR, 0.5–2.5 years). Following AGV implantation, the median IOP decreased significantly (p < 0.0001), median number of AGMs reduced significantly (p < 0.001) and median visual acuity was maintained (p = 0.76). Cumulative success probability of AGV was 75.8 ± 10.6% at 1 year, and 75.8 ± 10.6% at 2 years. For 24 clear grafts before AGV, estimates of success post-AGV were 100% at 1 year, 77.8 ± 10% at 2 years and 51.9 ± 16.4% at 3 years. Postoperative tube intervention was a borderline significant risk factor for graft failure (p = 0.05) with hazards ratio of 7.2; however, tube location was not associated with failure.ConclusionsAGV can be considered an effective surgical option for IOP control in eyes with DSEK and glaucoma. However, high risk of long-term graft failure in these eyes needs to be considered specially those eyes needing tube intervention.

Abstract:PURPOSE. To determine the indications for Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation by analyzing the duration and regimen of hypotensive therapy, and the configuration of previous interventions. METHODS. Retrospective evaluation of the duration and intensity of therapeutic treatment, and the configuration of laser and surgical procedures in a group of 139 patients (153 interventions) who underwent Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation in 2009–2011, and another group of 270 patients (272 interventions) who were treated in 2019–2010. RESULTS . The average age of candidates for implantation of the Ahmed valve increased from 63 y.o. in 2009–2011 to 70 y.o. in 2019–2020. The treatment preceding Ahmed valve implantation had extended in duration from 8.8±1.4 to 11.2±1.1 years leading to an increase in cumulative preservative toxicity from 9 293.8±968.6 to 10 038.1±888.9 μg. The main classes of intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering drugs were prostaglandin analogues (75.4% in 2009–2011 and 77.1% in 2019–2020), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (75.4% and 82.6%), and beta-blockers (57.4% and 61.1% accordingly). Laser trabeculoplasty was performed in only 11.8% and 28.7% of cases, respectively. Hypotensive filtering operations preceded valve implantation in 63.4% (2009–2011) and 80.5% of cases (2019–2020), while in the rest of patients the installation of the Ahmed device was the first surgical procedure. Despite treatment, the rate of glaucoma progression to an advanced stage increased from 62.1% in 2009–2011 to 82.7% in 2019–2020. CONCLUSION. With increase in the duration of conservative management of glaucoma its progression continues, while the increased preservative toxicity reduces the effectiveness of conjunctival surgery. In conclusion, earlier switch to surgical methods of IOP normalization involving the use of the Ahmed valve is advisable not only in secondary, but also in primary open-angle glaucoma treated conser-vatively for a long (over 7–8 years) period.

Abstract:Abstract Glaucoma drainage devices are invaluable in the management of secondary/ refractory glaucomas. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of Aurolab Aqueous Drainage Implant (AADI) and the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) in filtration-surgery-naïve secondary glaucoma eyes. For this purpose, a retrospective, comparative review was conducted on patients with secondary glaucoma (open and closed) who underwent primary tube procedures, either AADI or AGV. The primary outcome measure was intraocular pressure (IOP), and secondary measures included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), number of antiglaucoma medications (AGMs), and complications. This study included 59 eyes in the AADI group with a mean follow-up of 20.3 ± 12.9 months and 61 eyes in the AGV group with a mean follow-up of 19.8 ± 11.8 months. Preoperative IOP, AGM use, and BCVA did not significantly differ between the groups. However, at the last visit, both IOP and AGM use were significantly lower in the AADI group (12.9 ± 3.7 mmHg and 0.6 ± 0.9 vs. 15.7 ± 2.7 and 1.8 ± 1.0 respectively, all p < .001). Moreover, the AADI group exhibited a significantly higher rate of complete success (57.6%) compared to the AGV group (14.7%, p < .001); corresponding qualified success was 91.5% and 80.3%. Serious complication rates were comparable between the two groups. In conclusion, toth AADI and AGV procedures effectively reduced IOP and the need for AGMs. However, the reductions were significantly greater in the AADI group, which also showed a higher rate of complete success. Considering its affordability, AADI could have a substantial positive impact, particularly in resource-constrained settings.

The Effect of Tube Location on Corneal Endothelial Cells in Patients with Ahmed Glaucoma Valve

Abstract:Purpose: To compare the effects of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV; New World Medical, Rancho Cucamonga, CA) with sulcus versus anterior chamber (AC) tube placement on the corneal endothelial density and morphology over time. Design: Nonrandomized, interventional study. Participants: This study included 106 eyes from 101 pseudophakic patients who had the AGV tube placed in the AC (acAGV) and 105 eyes from 94 pseudophakic patients who had the AGV tube placed in the ciliary sulcus (sAGV). Methods: All patients underwent preoperative specular microscopy, which was repeated postoperatively in 2019. The patients' demographic information, glaucoma diagnoses, and basic ocular information were obtained on chart review. Anterior segment OCT was conducted for patients who underwent sAGV to evaluate the sulcus tube position. Gonioscopy was performed to document peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS). Linear mixed-effects models were used to compare the different ocular and endothelial measurements between the 2 groups and to identify risk factors for endothelial cell density (ECD) loss over time. Main outcome measures: Monthly change in corneal endothelial measurements, including ECD and coefficient of variation (CV), calculated as the difference between preoperative and postoperative measurements divided by the number of months from the time of surgery to postoperative specular microscopy. Results: The acAGV and sAGV groups were comparable in all baseline characteristics except that the acAGV group had longer follow-up (37.6 vs. 20.1 months, respectively, P < 0.001). Mean monthly loss in central ECD was significantly more in the acAGV group (mean ± standard deviation: 29.3±29.7 cells/mm2) than in the sAGV group (15.3±20.7 cells/mm2, P < 0.0001). Mean monthly change in CV was similar between the 2 groups (P = 0.28). Multivariate analyses revealed that younger age and tube location in the AC were associated with faster central ECD loss (P = 0.02, P < 0.0001, respectively). For patients with sAGV, while PAS was associated with faster central ECD loss (P = 0.002), a more forward tube position tenting the iris was not (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Compared with anterior segment placement, ciliary sulcus tube implantation may be a preferred surgery approach to reduce endothelial cell loss in pseudophakic patients.
Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma after vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve implantation (AGVI) for the management of neovascular glaucoma (NVG) associated with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in the vitrectomized eyes. Patients and methods: We reviewed the medical records of patients with NVG associated with PDR who underwent AGVI for intraocular pressure (IOP) control and compared the surgical outcome according to vitrectomy history. The main outcome measures were: postoperative IOP control, visual acuity, and complications. Success was defined as an IOP of ≤21 mm Hg and ≥6 mm Hg, without further glaucoma surgery or loss of light perception and devastating complications. Results: A total of 73 patients (73 eyes) were included: 42 patients with vitrectomy history before AGVI (vitrectomized group) and 31 patients without vitrectomy history (nonvitrectomized group). The cumulative probabilities of success after AGVI were 89.9% and 83.8% after 1 year, 74.8% and 74.7% after 2 years, and 62.5% and 68.5% after 3 years for the vitrectomized group and the nonvitrectomized group, respectively (P=0.9309). Cox proportional hazards regression showed the intraocular silicone oil tamponade as a risk factor for the surgical failure (odds ratio=4.543, P=0.047). Final visual acuity improved or stabilized in 33 patients (78.6%) in the vitrectomized group and 18 patients (58.1%) in the nonvitrectomized group. Complications were comparable between the groups, but surgical interventions were needed for 5 patients (11.9%) in the vitrectomized group. Conclusion: Despite some complications that necessitate surgical intervention, the AGVI is a safe and effective procedure that enables successful IOP control and vision preservation in patients with NVG associated with vitrectomy for the PDR.

Meta-analysis of Molteno glaucoma implants and Ahmed glaucoma valves: insights into efficacy and safety for complex glaucoma

Abstract:Background: Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness globally and for decades, Molteno and Ahmed glaucoma implants, operating on different mechanisms, have been used to treat complicated glaucoma with varying success. Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of the Molteno glaucoma implant (MGI) versus the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) in patients with complicated glaucoma. Methods: We comprehensively searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library and Science Direct) from inception till July 2023 and studies comparing patients with MGI and those with AGV in patients with complicated glaucoma. The primary outcome was intra-ocular pressure reduction at different time intervals. Secondary outcomes included surgical success rate, hypertensive phase, anti-glaucoma medication (AGM) and total complications. Results: In this meta-analysis, four studies were included with a patient population of 257 with refractory, neovascular or advanced uncontrolled glaucoma. Postoperative intra-ocular pressure reduction did not show significant difference between the two groups (MD: -1.34, 95% CI [-2.78, 0.09]). From the secondary outcomes, surgical success rate (RR: 0.88, 95% CI [0.51,1.53]), hypertensive phase (RR: 0.74, 95% CI [0.39,1.40]) were insignificant. Postoperative anti-glaucoma medication (MD: -0.07, 95% CI [-0.79, -0.65] and total complications (RR:1.36, 95% CI [1.07, 1.72]) were significant. Conclusion: No significant difference was observed between the patients with MGI and AGV for the primary outcome. From the secondary outcome, AGV was associated with reduced anti-glaucoma medication use and significantly lowered the number of complications. Abstract:Purpose Uveitis can lead to secondary glaucoma, a condition with challenging management that can carry irreversible visual loss. Filtering surgery has demonstrated a higher failure rate, increased incidence of postoperative complications and reinterventions in uveitic patients. There is no consensus on the optimal surgical approach for uveitic glaucoma (UG) due to limited data comparing various intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering surgeries. This retrospective cohort aims to assess the clinical outcomes of trabeculectomy (TBT), non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS), Ex-PRESS shunt and Ahmed glaucoma valve, providing additional insights into the long-term IOP control and safety of filtering surgeries in UG.

Comparison of FP-7 and S-2 Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Implantation in Refractory Glaucoma Patients for Short-Term Follow-Up.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Ahmed glaucoma valves (AGV) has been used for decades, but there is no detailed report about the efficacy of AGV in Chinese glaucoma patients. This study aimed to compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering efficacy and side effects of S-2 polypropylene and PF-7 silicone AGV implantation in Chinese refractory glaucoma patients.METHODS:Patients were divided into S-2 model AGV group and FP-7 model AGV group. The complete and qualified surgical success rate, change of IOP, number of anti-glaucoma medications used and postoperative complications were recorded and analyzed.RESULTS:Average follow-up time was comparable between two groups. IOP was reduced from (37.9 ± 12.7) mmHg preoperatively to (17.3 ± 5.3) mmHg at the last follow-up in S-2 group and reduced from (39.9 ± 14.4) mmHg to (17.7 ± 4.9) mmHg in FP-7 group. Anti-glaucoma medications were reduced from 3.8 ± 0.2 to 1.5 ± 0.2 in S-2 group, and 3.5 ± 0.2 to 0.7 ± 0.2 in FP-7 groups. The cumulative success rates were comparable in two groups, which were 61.2% and 72.1% in S-2 group and FP-7 group respectively. When IOP reduction criteria was used, complete success rates were 30.6% and 51.2% for S-2 and FP-7 groups, and qualified success rates were 86.1% and 92.7% separately. In both groups, the major complication was hypotony, and the previous trabeculectomy of patients was the major risk factor for surgery failure.CONCLUSIONS:In this short-term retrospective study, S-2 AGV is showed at least as effective as FP-7 AGV in IOP reduction, but associated with higher rate of complications. Previous trabeculectomy is a principle risk factor for AGV implantation failure. These clinical outcomes are important for converting use of the FP-7 silicon AGV in Chinese refractory glaucoma patients.
Comparison of the Ahmed and Baerveldt Glaucoma Drainage Implants in the Treatment of Primary Congenital Glaucoma

Abstract:Purpose: To compare the outcomes of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) (New World Medical, Inc) with the Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) (Johnson & Johnson Vision) in primary congenital glaucoma (PCG). Methods: This was a retrospective review of children with PCG who underwent AGV or BGI implantation with a minimum follow-up of 6 months. Main outcome measures were intraocular pressure (IOP), the number of glaucoma medications, success rate, complications, and surgical revisions. Results: The study included 153 eyes of 86 patients (120 eyes in the AGV group and 33 eyes in the BGI group), and the mean follow-up period was 58.7 ± 6.9 months in the AGV group and 58.5 ± 5.0 months in the BGI group. At baseline, IOP was lower in the AGV group (33 ± 6.3 vs 36.4 ± 6.1 months; P = .004) and the number of glaucoma medications was comparable between groups (3.4 ± 0.9 vs 3.6 ± 0.5 medication; P = .183). At 5 years, the mean IOP (18.4 ± 5.0 vs 16.3 ± 2.5 mm Hg; P = .004) and number of glaucoma medications (2.1 ± 1.3 vs 1.0 ± 1.0 medication; P = .001) were significantly less in the BGI group. Furthermore, the surgical success was 53.4% in the AGV group and 78.8% in the BGI group (P = .013). Conclusions: Both the AGV and BGI were successful in providing adequate IOP control in patients with PCG. Long-term follow-up showed that the BGI was associated with a lower IOP, fewer glaucoma medications, and a higher success rate. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2023;60(6):448-454.].

Abstract:Glaucoma drainage devices have an established position in the surgical treatment of glaucoma, and moreover their use has grown rapidly in recent years. The aim of the study is to discuss the technique and complications of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation – one of the most frequently used filtering systems in the treatment of difficult cases of glaucoma. Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation is an effective and relatively safe surgical procedure. The effectiveness of the method, according to various literature reports, is estimated at approximately 45–64% in a 5-year follow-up. Traditionally, Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation has been reserved for the treatment of glaucoma refractory to multiple filtration surgical procedures. Currently, this procedure is recommended for patients with risk factors for failure of trabeculectomy with antimetabolites. The current literature shows the potential role of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation also as a primary surgical option in selected glaucoma cases, for example in patients with a higher risk of infection.

[Clinical Efficacy and Safety of FP-7 Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Implantation in Neurovascular Glaucoma Patients].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of FP-7 Ahmed glaucoma valves (AGV) implantation in neurovascular glaucoma (NVG) as the first choice of surgery.METHODS:This retrospective, comparative case series study collected a total of 36 eyes of 36 patients with neurovascular glaucoma who underwent AGV implantation in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center from January 2009 to June 2010. Change of intraocular pressure (IOP), the best corrected visual acuity, numbers of anti-glaucoma medication, success rate and postoperative complications were followed up at day 1, week 1, month 1, and every 3 months after surgery. Complete success of surgery was rated as reduction of IOP ≥ 30% without medication and those who failed to meet criteria was rated as partial success. Data were analyzed by paired Student t-test for IOP, rank sum test for paired non-parametric numbers of medication, and repeated measures analysis of variance for comparison of IOP between different time points using SPSS 13.0.RESULTS:Compared with pre-operation, IOP was significant (F = 9.26, P < 0.05) decreased after surgery with FP-7 AGV implantation (39.5 ± 9.7) mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa) vs (9.2 ± 8.9), (11.8 ± 3.8), (13.7 ± 4.8), (16.9 ± 5.3), (16.9 ± 6.8) mm Hg at day 1, week 1, month 1, month 3 and the last following-up of post-operation, respectively. The numbers of anti-glaucoma medication were significantly (Z = 6.764, P < 0.05) reduced from 4.0 (1-6) of pre-operation to 1.0 (1-3) of post-operation. At the last following up, the complete success rate after FP-7 AGV implantation was 80.6%, and qualified success rate was 91.7%. The postoperative complications including occlusion of the drainage tube, exposure of the drainage tube, shallow anterior chamber and encapsulated cystic blebs around the plate were controlled with additional treatment.CONCLUSIONS:The clinical outcome indicated that the implantation of FP-7 AGV has a stable IOP lowering effect and fewer complications, which can be considered as one of the first choices for management of NVG.

Abstract:Prècis: Mean IOP, complete and overall success, mean IOP-lowering medications, incidence of hypertensive phase and complications were found to be comparable between patients undergoing Ahmed Glaucoma Valve implantation (AGVI) with adjunctive bevacizumab versus AGVI alone. Purpose: This meta-analysis aims to assess how adjunctive bevacizumab impacts the surgical outcomes of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation (AGVI) compared to AGVI alone in all subtypes of refractory glaucoma. Methods: A systematic search of databases for relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) was performed in March 2023. Primary outcomes included mean intraocular pressure (IOP) and success rates. Secondary outcomes were mean IOP-lowering medications, incidence of hypertensive phase, and complications. Qualitative assessment, meta-analysis, subgroup analyses, and sensitivity analysis were performed. Results: Five RCTs comprising 203 eyes were included in the quantitative analysis. Initial meta-analysis showed a strong yet non-significant trend (all P >0.05) favouring adjunctive bevacizumab in all outcomes of interest. Significant heterogeneity was observed for mean IOP and success outcomes at all timepoints (all I 2 >50%). Subgroup analysis of administration route revealed a reduced incidence of hyphaema in the intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) subgroup (OR, 0.10; 95% CI, 0.02–0.59; P =0.01) with significant heterogeneity persisting in the IVB subgroup for all measures (all I 2 >50%). Post hoc sensitivity analysis of studies without concurrent PRP for mean IOP and success outcomes demonstrated more conservative effect sizes with a corresponding decrease in heterogeneity for all measures (all I 2 <30%). Conclusion: Published studies investigating the role of adjunctive bevacizumab show a strong trend to improved outcomes but contain a relatively small number of participants. This analysis underpins the need for an adequately powered RCT to explore the role of anti-VEGF agents in AGVI surgery.
