Abstract:We use combinatorial and generating function techniques to enumerate various sets of involutions which avoid 231 or contain 231 exactly once. Interestingly, many of these enumerations can be given in terms of $k$-generalized Fibonacci numbers.

Abstract:The first cobalt molecule to function as a single-molecule magnet, [Co4(hmp)4(MeOH)4Cl4], where hmp- is the anion of hydroxymethylpyridine, is reported. The core of the molecule consists of four Co(II) cations and four hmp- oxygen atoms ions at the corners of a cube. Variable-field and variable-temperature magnetization data have been analyzed to establish that the molecule has a S=6 ground state with considerable negative magnetoanisotropy. Single-ion zero-field interactions (DSz2) at each cobalt ion are the origin of the negative magnetoanisotropy. A single-crystal of the compound was studied by means of a micro-SQUID magnetometer in the range of 0.040-1.0K. Hysteresis was found in the magnetization versus magnetic field response of this single crystal. It is concluded that this is the first cobalt molecule to function as a single-molecule magnet.

Abstract:A composition of a positive integer n is a k-tuple (λ1, λ2, …, λk) ∈ ℤk>0 such that n = λ1 + λ2 + … + λk. Our goal is to enumerate those compositions whose parts λ1, λ2, …, λk avoid a fixed arithmetic sequence. When this sequence is given by the even integers (i.e., all parts of the compositions must be odd), it is well known that the number of compositions is given by the Fibonacci sequence. A much more recent theorem says that when the parts are required to avoid all multiples of a given integer k, the resulting compositions are counted by a sequence given by a Fibonacci-type recursion of depth k. We extend this result to arbitrary arithmetic sequences. Our main tool is a lemma on generating functions that is no secret among experts but deserves to be more widely known.
Enumerating 1324-avoiders with few inversions

Abstract:We enumerate the numbers $Av_n^k(1324)$ of 1324-avoiding $n$-permutations with exactly $k$ inversions for all $k$ and $n \geq (k+7)/2$. The result depends on a structural characterization of such permutations in terms of a new notion of almost-decomposability. In particular, our enumeration verifies half of a conjecture of Claesson, Jelínek and Steingrímsson, according to which $Av_n^k(1324) \leq Av_{n+1}^k(1324)$ for all $n$ and $k$. Proving also the other half would improve the best known upper bound for the exponential growth rate of the number of $1324$-avoiders from $13.5$ to approximately $13.002$.

A Pair of Diophantine Equations Involving the Fibonacci Numbers

Abstract:Let $a, b\in \mathbb{N}$ be relatively prime. Previous work showed that exactly one of the two equations $ax + by = (a-1)(b-1)/2$ and $ax + by + 1 = (a-1)(b-1)/2$ has a nonnegative, integral solution; furthermore, the solution is unique. Let $F_n$ be the $n$th Fibonacci number. When $(a,b) = (F_n, F_{n+1})$, it is known that there is an explicit formula for the unique solution $(x,y)$. We establish formulas to compute the solution when $(a,b) = (F_n^2, F_{n+1}^2)$ and $(F_n^3, F_{n+1}^3)$, giving rise to some intriguing identities involving Fibonacci numbers. Additionally, we construct a different pair of equations that admits a unique positive (instead of nonnegative), integral solution.

Abstract:For a set $A$ of positive integers with $\gcd(A)=1$, let $\langle A \rangle$ denote the set of all finite linear combinations of elements of $A$ over the non-negative integers. The it is well known that only finitely many positive integers do not belong to $\langle A \rangle$. The Frobenius number and the genus associated with the set $A$ is the largest number and the cardinality of the set of integers non-representable by $A$. By a generalized Fibonacci sequence $\{V_n\}_{n \ge 1}$ we mean any sequence of positive integers satisfying the recurrence $V_n=V_{n-1}+V_{n-2}$ for $n \ge 3$. We study the problem of determining the Frobenius number and genus for sets $A=\{V_n,V_{n+d},V_{n+2d},\ldots\}$ for arbitrary $n$, where $d$ odd or $d=2$.

Abstract:The following magic trick is at the center of this paper. While the audience writes the first ten terms of a Fibonacci-like sequence (the sequence following the same recursion as the Fibonacci sequence), the magician calculates the sum of these ten terms very fast by multiplying the 7th term by 11. This trick is based on the divisibility properties of partial sums of Fibonacci-like sequences. We find the maximum Fibonacci number that divides the sum of the Fibonacci numbers 1 through $n$. We discuss the generalization of the trick for other second-order recurrences. We show that a similar trick exists for Pell-like sequences and does not exist for Jacobhstal-like sequences.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the diophantine equation σ_2(n)-n^2=An+B. We prove that except for finitely many computable solutions, all the solutions to this equation with (A,B)=(L_2m,F_2m^2-1) are n=F_2k+1F_2k+2m+1, where both F_2k+1 and F_2k+2m+1 are Fibonacci primes. Meanwhile, we show that the twin primes conjecture holds if and only if the equation σ_2(n)-n^2=2n+5 has infinitely many solutions.
Curious congruences for Fibonacci numbers

Abstract:In this paper we establish some sophisticated congruences involving central binomial coefficients and Fibonacci numbers. For example, we show that if $p\not=2,5$ is a prime then $$\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}F_{2k}\binom{2k}{k}=(-1)^{[p/5]}(1-(p/5)) (mod p^2)$$ and $$\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}F_{2k+1}\binom{2k}k=(-1)^{[p/5]}(p/5) (mod p^2).$$ We also obtain similar results for some other second-order recurrences and raise several conjectures.
Pattern Avoidance for Fibonacci Sequences using $k$-Regular Words

Abstract:Two $k$-ary Fibonacci recurrences are $a_k(n) = a_k(n-1) + k \cdot a_k(n-2)$ and $b_k(n) = k \cdot b_k(n-1) + b_k(n-2)$. We provide a simple proof that $a_k(n)$ is the number of $k$-regular words over $[n] = \{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ that avoid patterns $\{121, 123, 132, 213\}$ when using base cases $a_k(0) = a_k(1) = 1$ for any $k \geq 1$. This was previously proven by Kuba and Panholzer in the context of Wilf-equivalence for restricted Stirling permutations, and it creates Simion and Schmidt's classic result on the Fibonacci sequence when $k=1$, and the Jacobsthal sequence when $k=2$. We complement this theorem by proving that $b_k(n)$ is the number of $k$-regular words over $[n]$ that avoid $\{122, 213\}$ with $b_k(0) = b_k(1) = 1$ for any~$k \geq 2$. Finally, we conjecture that $|Av^{2}_{n}(\underline{121}, 123, 132, 213)| = a_1(n)^2$ for $n \geq 0$. That is, vincularizing the Stirling pattern in Kuba and Panholzer's Jacobsthal result gives the Fibonacci-squared numbers.

Abstract:This paper investigates a variant of the famous "happy numbers" sequence, given by A351327 on the oeis. First of all we'll define this integer sequence, and then we'll show some important results about it; in particular we conjectured that if $k$ is a term of the sequence, then it converges to 1 in a number of steps less or equal to 3. Furthermore it will be possible to find some codes written in Wolfram language in order to compute large terms of the sequence and to support our hypothesis. At the end we'll explore some new conjectures and generalizations about this kind of integer sequence.

Abstract:Based on the combinatorial interpretation of the ordered Bell numbers, which count all the ordered partitions of the set $[n]=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$, we introduce the Fibonacci partition as a Fibonacci permutation of its blocks. Then we define the Fibonacci-Fubini numbers that count the total number of Fibonacci partitions of $[n]$. We study the classical properties of this sequence (generating function, explicit and Dobiński-like formula, etc.), we give combinatorial interpretation, and we extensively examine the Fibonacci-Fubini arithmetic triangle. We give some associate linear recurrence sequences, where in some sequences the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds appear as well.

Abstract:Let $(F_n)_{n \geq 1}$ be the sequence of Fibonacci numbers. For all integers $a$ and $b \geq 1$ with $\gcd(a, b) = 1$, let $[a^{-1} \!\bmod b]$ be the multiplicative inverse of $a$ modulo $b$, which we pick in the usual set of representatives $\{0, 1, \dots, b-1\}$. Put also $[a^{-1} \!\bmod b] := \infty$ when $\gcd(a, b) > 1$. We determine all positive integers $m$ and $n$ such that $[F_m^{-1} \bmod F_n]$ is a Fibonacci number. This extends a previous result of Prempreesuk, Noppakaew, and Pongsriiam, who considered the special case $m \in \{3, n - 3, n - 2, n - 1\}$ and $n \geq 7$. Let $(L_n)_{n \geq 1}$ be the sequence of Lucas numbers. We also determine all positive integers $m$ and $n$ such that $[L_m^{-1} \bmod L_n]$ is a Lucas number.

Similarly, Let $N=2n+1$, $n\geq1$. If $b=F_{N-1}$, then a cycle of $S_b$ exists with initial term $F_{N}=F_{2}.F_{N-2}$, and terminal element $F_{n}.F_{n+1}$ if $n$ is even, or terminal element $F_{n+1}.F_{n}$ if $n$ is odd. Furthermore, the cycles also admit extension as an arithmetic sequence of cycles of $S_b$ with base $b=F_{N+1}+F_{N+2}k$ and $b=F_{N-1}+F_{N-2}k$, respectively. Abstract:The Fibonacci sequence is a series of positive integers in which, starting from $0$ and $1$, every number is the sum of two previous numbers, and the limiting ratio of any two consecutive numbers of this sequence is called the golden ratio. The Fibonacci numbers and the golden ratio are two significant concepts that keep appearing everywhere. In this article, we investigate the following issues: (i) We recall the Fibonacci sequence, the golden ratio, their properties and applications, and some early generalizations of the golden ratio. The Fibonacci sequence is a $2$-sequence because it is generated by the sum of two previous terms, $f_{n+2} = f_{n+1} + f_{n}$. As a natural extension of this, we introduce several typical $p$-sequences where every term is the sum of $p$ previous terms given $p$ initial values called "seeds". In particular, we introduce the notion of $1$-sequence. We then discuss generating functions and limiting ratio values of $p$-sequences. Furthermore, inspired by Fibonacci's rabbit pair problem, we consider a general problem whose particular cases lead to nontrivial additive sequences. (ii) We obtain closed expressions for odd and even sums, sum of the first $n$ numbers, and the sum of squares of the first $n$ numbers of the "exponent" $p$-sequence whose seeds are $(0,1,\cdots,p-1)$. (iii) We investigate the $p$-golden ratio of $p$-sequences, express a positive integer power of the $p$-golden ratio as a polynomial of degree $p-1$, and obtain values of golden angles for different $p$-golden ratios. We also consider further generalizations of the golden ratio. (iv) We establish a family of determinantal identities of which the Cassini's identity is a particular case.

Combinatorial Interpretations of $q$-Fibonacci Numbers and Their Binomial Analogues

Abstract:The Fibonomial coefficients are well-known analogues of the classical binomial coefficients. In 2009, Sagan and Savage introduced a combinatorial interpretation for these coefficients, based on tiling a rectangular grid. More recently, Bergeron extended this work by providing a similar interpretation for the q-Fibonomial coefficients, using weighted tilings of a rectangular grid. Inspired by Bennett's model, Bergeron also developed a staircase tiling model for the q-Fibonomial coefficients. While Bergeron's proofs for the rectangular grid model relied on induction, and the staircase model on bijective correspondences with the rectangular grid model, these approaches lacked deeper structural insights. In this paper, we propose a novel model for the q-Fibonacci numbers that generalizes Bergeron's approach. This new model not only enables us to prove several identities related to q-Fibonacci numbers but also provides a non-bijective proof for the staircase model of the q-Fibonomial coefficients, offering greater structural clarity. Additionally, we demonstrate new identities involving the q-Fibonomial coefficients using this refined rectangular grid model, further enhancing the combinatorial understanding of these mathematical objects.
