Abstract:We prove the following result. Let f be a continuous function in the closed infinite strip in complex plane. Suppose the restriction of f to every circle inscribed in the strip extends holomorphically inside the circle. Then f is holomorphic in the open strip.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a holomorphic function on the strip $\{z\in C: -\alpha<Im z<\alpha\}, \alpha > 0$, belonging to the class $H(\alpha,-\alpha;\epsilon)$ defined below. It is shown that there exist holomorphic functions $w_1$ on $\{z\in C: 0<Im z <2 \alpha\}$ and $w_2$ on $\{z\in C: -2 \alpha<Im z<2 \alpha\}$ such that $w_1$ and $w_2$ have boundary values of modulus one on the real axis and satisfy the relation $w_1(z)=f(z-\alpha i)w_2(z-2 \alpha i)$ and $w_2(z+2 \alpha i)= \bar{f}(z+\alpha i)w_1(z)$ for $0<Im z<2$, where $\bar{f}(z):=\bar{f(\bar{z})}$. This leads to a "polar decomposition" $f(z)=u_f(z+\alpha i)g_f(z)$ of the function $f(z)$, where $u_f(z+\alpha i)$ and $g_f(z)$ are holomorphic functions for $-\alpha<Im z<\alpha$ such that $|u_f(x)|=1$ and $g_f(x)\ge 0$ a.e. on the real axis. As a byproduct, an operator representation of a $q$-deformed Heisenberg algebra is developed.

Abstract:Criteria are given for a mapping to have bounded distortion in terms of an integral estimate of the multiplicity function without any a priori assumption on the differential properties of the mapping. The result is most lucid and final in a sense for complex functions f :Δ⊂ C → C of one complex variable. Generalizations to multidimensional Beltrami systems are suggested.

Abstract:We use the Leray spectral sequence for the sheaf cohomology groups with compact supports to obtain a vanishing result. The stalks of sheaves $R^{\bullet}\phi_{!}\mathcal{O}$ for the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}$ on the total space of a holomorphic fiber bundle $\phi$ has canonical topology structures. Using the standard \vCech argument we prove a density lemma for QDFS-topology on this stalks. In particular, we obtain a vanishing result for holomorphic fiber bundles with Stein fibers. Using Künnet formulas, properties of an inductive topology (with respect to the pair of spaces) on the stalks of the sheaf $R^{1}\phi_{!}\mathcal{O}$ and a cohomological criterion for the Hartogs phenomenon we obtain the main result on the Hartogs phenomenon for the total space of holomorphic fiber bundles with (1,0)-compactifiable fibers.

Lefschetz Theorem Using Real Morse Theory

Abstract:We prove the Lefschetz hyperplane section theorem using a simpler machinery by making the observation that we can compose the Lefschetz Pencil with a Real Morse function to get a map from the variety to $\mathbb{R}$ which is "close" to being a Real Morse function. The proof uses a new method unlike the conventional one which uses vanishing cycles, thimbles and monodromy. We prove the genus formula for plane curves using Morse theory, Lefschetz pencil and Bézout's theorem. And then we prove the Riemann Hurwitz formula for ramified maps between curves by employing techniques from deformation theory. Lastly, we prove the Lefschetz Hyperplane Section Theorem solely using Real Morse Theory and exact sequences.

Holomorphic Curves in Moduli Spaces Are Quasi-Isometrically Immersed

Abstract:A holomorphic curve in moduli spaces is the image of a non-constant holomorphic map from a hyperbolic surface $B$ of type $(g,n)$ to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_h$ of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $h$. We show that, when all peripheral monodromies are of infinite order, the holomorphic map is a quasi-isometric immersion with parameters depending only on $g$, $n$, $h$ and the systole of $B$. When peripheral monodromies also satisfy an additional condition, we find a lift quasi-isometrically embedding a fundamental polygon of the hyperbolic surface $B$ into the Teichmüller space. We further improve the Parshin-Arakelov finiteness theorem, by proving that there are only finitely many monodromy homomorphisms induced by holomorphic curves of type $(g,n)$ in $\mathcal{M}_h$ where systole is bounded away from $0$, up to equivalence.

Abstract:We discuss to what extent certain results about totally ramified values of entire and meromorphic functions remain valid if one relaxes the hypothesis that some value is totally ramified by assuming only that all islands over some Jordan domain are multiple. In particular, we prove a result suggested by Bloch which says that an entire function of order less than 1 has a simple island over at least one of two given Jordan domains with disjoint closures.

Abstract:We generalize a fundamental theorem in higher dimensional value distribution theory about entire curves in subvarieties $X$ of semi-abelian varieties to the situation of the sequences of holomorphic maps from the unit disc into $X$. This generalization implies, among other things, that subvarieties of log general type in semi-abelian varieties are pseudo-Kobayashi hyperbolic. As another application, we improve a classical theorem due to Cartan in 1920's about the system of nowhere vanishing holomorphic functions on the unit disc satisfying Borel's identity.

A Moebius inversion formula to discard tangled hyperbolic surfaces

Abstract:Recent literature on Weil-Petersson random hyperbolic surfaces has met a consistent obstacle: the necessity to condition the model, prohibiting certain rare geometric patterns (which we call tangles), such as short closed geodesics or embedded surfaces of short boundary length. The main result of this article is a Moebius inversion formula, allowing to integrate the indicator function of the set of tangle-free surfaces in a systematic, tractable way. It is inspired by a key step of Friedman's celebrated proof of Alon's conjecture. We further prove that our tangle-free hypothesis significantly reduces the number of local topological types of short geodesics, replacing the exponential proliferation observed on tangled surfaces by a polynomial growth.

Holomorphic Curves in Surfaces of General Type.

Abstract:This note answers some questions on holomorphic curves and their distribution in an algebraic surface of positive index. More specifically, we exploit the existence of natural negatively curved "pseudo-Finsler" metrics on a surface S of general type whose Chern numbers satisfy c(2)1>2c2 to show that a holomorphic map of a Riemann surface to S whose image is not in any rational or elliptic curve must satisfy a distance decreasing property with respect to these metrics. We show as a consequence that such a map extends over isolated punctures. So assuming that the Riemann surface is obtained from a compact one of genus q by removing a finite number of points, then the map is actually algebraic and defines a compact holomorphic curve in S. Furthermore, the degree of the curve with respect to a fixed polarization is shown to be bounded above by a multiple of q - 1 irrespective of the map.

Abstract:This is the second part of an article in two parts, which builds the foundation of a Floer-theoretic invariant, I_F. (See math.DG/0111313 for part I). Having constructed I_F and outlined a proof of its invariance based on bifurcation analysis in part I, in this part we prove a series of gluing theorems to confirm the bifurcation behavior predicted in part I. These gluing theorems are different from (and much harder than) the more conventional versions in that they deal with broken trajectories or broken orbits connected at degenerate rest points. The issues of orientation and signs are also settled in the last section.

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1911.08213" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1911.08213">arXiv:1911.08213</a> it was conjectured that the compactly supported cohomology of the $m$-th restricted contact locus of an isolated hypersurface singularity coincides, up to a shift, with the Floer cohomology of the $m$-th iterate of the monodromy of the Milnor fiber. In this paper we give an affirmative answer to this conjecture in the case of plane curves.

Abstract:We prove a couple of results on local continuous extension of proper holomorphic maps $F:D \rightarrow \Omega$, $D, \Omega \varsubsetneq \mathbb{C}^n$, making local assumptions on $\partial{D}$ and $\partial{\Omega}$. The first result allows us to have much lower regularity, for the patches of $\partial{D}, \partial{\Omega}$ that are relevant, than in earlier results. The second result (and a result closely related to it) is in the spirit of a result by Forstneric--Rosay. However, our assumptions allow $\partial{\Omega}$ to contain boundary points of infinite type.

Abstract:We show that the isolated invariant branches globalize to algebraic curves, when we consider weak toric type complex hyperbolic foliations on projective toric ambient surfaces. To do it, we pass through a characterization of weak toric type foliations in terms of "non-degeneracy" conditions, associated to Newton polygons. We also give a description of the relationship between invariant algebraic curves and isolated invariant branches, valid for the case of toric type, by means of the following dichotomy. Either there is a rational first integral and there are no isolated invariant branches or we have only finitely many global invariant curves, all of them extending isolated invariant branches.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a foliation defined on a complex projective manifold $M$ of dimension $n$ and admitting a holomorphic vector field $X$ tangent to it along some non-empty Zariski-open set. In this paper we prove that if $X$ has sufficiently many integral curves that are given by meromorphic functions defined on $\mathbb{C}$ then the restriction of $\mathcal{F}$ to any invariant complex $2$-dimensional analytic set admits a first integral of Liouvillean type. In particular, on $\mathbb{C}^3$, every rational vector fields whose solutions are meromorphic functions defined on $\mathbb{C}$ admits a non-empty invariant analytic set of dimension $2$ where the restriction of the vector field yields a Liouvillean integrable foliation.

Abstract:We give a sufficient condition for the existence of a holomorphic tubular neighborhood of a compact Riemann surface holomorphically embedded in a non-singular complex surface. Our sufficient condition is described by an arithmetical condition of unitary flat line bundles which can be regarded as an analogue of the Brjuno condition for irrational numbers which appears in the theory of 1-variable complex dynamics.

Abstract:In this paper, we first generalize the work of Bourgain (Geom. Funct. Anal. 1(4):321–374, 1991) and state a curvature condition for Hörmander-type oscillatory integral operators, which we call Bourgain's condition. This condition is notably satisfied by the phase functions for the Fourier restriction problem and the Bochner-Riesz problem. We conjecture that for Hörmander-type oscillatory integral operators satisfying Bourgain's condition, they satisfy the same bounds as in the Fourier Restriction Conjecture. To support our conjecture, we show that whenever Bourgain's condition fails, then the boundedness always fails for some , extending Bourgain's three-dimensional result (Geom. Funct. Anal. 1(4):321–374, 1991). On the other hand, if Bourgain's condition holds, then we prove bounds for Hörmander-type oscillatory integral operators for a range of that extends the currently best-known range for the Fourier restriction conjecture in high dimensions, given by Hickman and Zahl (A note on Fourier restriction and nested polynomial wolff axioms, 2020, arXiv:2010.02251). This gives new progress on the Fourier restriction problem, the Bochner-Riesz problem on , the Bochner-Riesz problem on spheres , etc.

The type problem for Riemann surfaces via Fenchel-Nielsen parameters

Abstract:A Riemann surface $X$ is said to be of \emph{parabolic type} if it supports a Green's function. Equivalently, the geodesic flow on the unit tangent of $X$ is ergodic. Given a Riemann surface $X$ of arbitrary topological type and a hyperbolic pants decomposition of $X$ we obtain sufficient conditions for parabolicity of $X$ in terms of the Fenchel-Nielsen parameters of the decomposition. In particular, we initiate the study of the effect of twist parameters on parabolicity. A key ingredient in our work is the notion of \textit{non standard half-collar} about a hyperbolic geodesic. We show that the modulus of such a half-collar is much larger than the modulus of a standard half-collar as the hyperbolic length of the core geodesic tends to infinity. Moreover, the modulus of the annulus obtained by gluing two non standard half-collars depends on the twist parameter, unlike in the case of standard collars. Our results are sharp in many cases. For instance, for zero-twist flute surfaces as well as half-twist flute surfaces with concave sequences of lengths our results provide a complete characterization of parabolicity in terms of the length parameters. It follows that parabolicity is equivalent to completeness in these cases. Applications to other topological types such as surfaces with infinite genus and one end (a.k.a. the infinite Loch-Ness monster), the ladder surface, Abelian covers of compact surfaces are also studied.

Abstract:We prove an extension criterion for codimension one foliations on projective hypersurfaces based on the degree of the foliation and the degree of the hypersurface, and we ensure, in some instances, an isomorphism between the corresponding spaces of foliations. We also present some examples of foliations that do not satisfy the extension criterion and do not extend.
