Abstract:The linear Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) constitutive relations are capable of simulating the near-continuum flows, but fail in description of those flows which are removed far away from local equilibrium. In this paper, a diatomic nonlinear model named as nonlinear coupled constitutive relations (NCCR), derived from Eu's generalized hydrodynamics and proposed by Myong, is presented as an alternative for simulating these hypersonic gas flows with a goal of recovering NSF's solutions in continuum regime and being superior in transition regime. To guarantee stable computation, a reliable and efficient coupled algorithm is proposed for this diatomic nonlinear constitutive model. Constitutive-curve analysis is carried out in detail to compare this coupled algorithm with Myong's previous algorithm. Local flow regions are investigated carefully in these hypersonic flows past a cone tip, a hollow cylinder-flare and a HTV-type vehicle. The convergent solutions of NCCR model are compared with NSF, DSMC calculations and experiment. It is demonstrated that the NCCR model works as efficiently as the NSF model in continuum regime, but more accurately compared with DSMC and experiment than NSF in non-equilibrium flows. The discrepancies of flow- field and surface parameters, imply a potential for remedying NSF's deficiency in local non-equilibrium regions.
Experimental Validation of Nonlinear Coupled Constitutive Relations in Continuum Flows

Abstract:The nonlinear coupled constitutive relations (NCCR) model has recently gained great success in stable numerical predictions of high-speed flows over three-dimensional complex flight configurations. However, there is an urgent demand for performing essential experimental measurements to validate the new theoretical model before further promotion to engineering applications. In this paper, the numerical simulations of the NCCR model with Jiang’s undecomposed algorithm and Navier–Stokes-Fourier (NSF) equations by in-house code are in comparison with experimental measurements to validate the applicability and accuracy of the NCCR theory in hypersonic flows. The wind tunnel experiments of HB-2 model were conducted at Ma 5 with five different angles of attack ( $$\mathrm{\alpha }=\pm 4^\circ , \pm 2^\circ , 0$$ ) in the Φ120 mm hypersonic wind tunnel. It was found that the flow field simulation results by NSF equations and the NCCR model, including aerodynamic force and shock wave structure position, are consistent with the experimental results. Most importantly, the NCCR model could completely recover the flow field solutions of NSF equations in hypersonic continuum flows. Thus, the accuracy and physical consistency of the NCCR model is critically examined and validated for hypersonic flow in continuum region.

Abstract:The Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) equations are no longer valid in high-Knudsen and high-Mach flows, where the local thermodynamically equilibrium assumption fails, while the nonlinear coupled constitutive relations (NCCR) have been proven to be an efficient approach for rarefied non-equilibrium flows under the structured finite-volume-method computational fluid dynamic (FVM-CFD) solver. In this paper, by adding the time derivatives of non-conserved variables to the NCCR model, a computational strategy for NCCR model under the unstructured FVM-CFD framework is first proposed for further engineering applications. An upwind flux-splitting scheme with the Lower-Upper Symmetric Gauss-Seidel (LU-SGS) implicit time-marching scheme is employed. The linear stability of one-dimensional modified NCCR model in time and space is analyzed subsequently, which indicates the modified NCCR model is unconditionally stable. The accuracy and computational performance of the proposed NCCR solution are assessed by a feat of the numerical tests for hypersonic flow over a blunt cylinder without a wake, supersonic flow past a circular cylinder with a wake, and hypersonic flow around a planetary probe. Computational results show that the newly-developed NCCR solution can get solutions in better agreement with the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) than NSF results. Moreover, the newly-developed NCCR solution has a better property of convergence than the undecomposed NCCR algorithm under the unstructured FVM-CFD framework. These superior advantages of the present computational strategy are expected to make the NCCR method a promising engineering tool for modeling rarefied non-equilibrium flows.

Abstract:We study why the calculation of current correlation functions (CCFs) still suffers from finite-size effects even when the periodic boundary condition is taken. Two important one-dimensional, momentum-conserving systems are investigated as examples. Intriguingly, it is found that the state of a system recurs in the sense of microcanonical ensemble average, and such recurrence may result in oscillations in CCFs. Meanwhile, we find that the sound mode collisions induce an extra time decay in a current so that its correlation function decays faster (slower) in a smaller (larger) system. Based on these two unveiled mechanisms, a procedure for correctly evaluating the decay rate of a CCF is proposed, with which our analysis suggests that the global energy CCF decays as ∼ t(-2/3) in the diatomic hard-core gas model and in a manner close to ∼ t(-1/2) in the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-β model.

Finite Volume Effects with Stationary Wave Solution from Nambu–Jona-Lasinio Model

Abstract:In this paper, we use the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with the proper time regularization to study the finite-volume effects of QCD chiral phase transition. Within a cubic volume of finite size L, we choose the stationary wave condition (SWC) as the real physical spatial boundary conditions of quark fields and compare our results with that by means of commonly used (anti-)period boundary condition (APBC or PBC). It is found that the results by means of SWC are obviously different to the results from the APBC or PBC. Although the three boundary conditions give the same chiral crossover transition curve in the infinite volume limit, the limit size L_0 (when L≥ L_0, the chiral quark condensate -⟨ψ̅ψ⟩_L is indistinguishable from that at L=∞) using SWC is L_0≈ 500 fm which is much larger than the results obtained using APBC or PBC. More importantly, L_0≈ 500 fm is also much large than the typical size of the quark-gluon plasma produced by the relativistic heavy ion collisions. This means that the finite volume effects play a very important role in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions. In addition, we also found that when L≤ 2 fm, even at zero temperature the chiral symmetry is effectively restored. Furthermore, to quantitatively reflect the finite volume effects on the QCD chiral phase transition, we introduce a new vacuum susceptibility, χ_1/L(T)=-∂⟨ψ̅ψ⟩/∂ (1/L). With this new vacuum susceptibility, it is very interesting to find χ_1/L(T=0)=χ_1/L(T=1/L) for SWC.
Probing the QCD Critical End Point with Finite-Size Scaling of Net-Baryon Cumulant Ratios

Abstract:The search for the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) critical end point (CEP) is a central focus in heavy-ion physics, as it provides insights into the phase structure of strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions. Finite-size scaling (FSS) analysis is applied to explore the critical behavior of cumulant ratios $ C_2/C_1 $, $ C_3/C_2 $, $ C_4/C_2 $, $ C_3/C_1 $, and $ C_4/C_1 $, measured in Au+Au collisions across the Beam Energy Scan (BES) range of 7.7 to 200 GeV. The scaling functions for these ratios reveal non-monotonic patterns near the CEP, where critical fluctuations appear in distinct scaling behavior. A consistent scaling pattern emerges at $\sqrt{s}_{\text{CEP}} = 31.0 \, \text{GeV}$, corresponding to $ \mu_{B,\text{CEP}} \approx 134.3 \, \text{MeV} $ and $ T_{\text{CEP}} \approx 155 \, \text{MeV}$, derived from the freeze-out curve. The FSS analysis shows upward divergence of $ C_2/C_1 $ and $ C_4/C_1 $, and downward divergence of $ C_3/C_2 $ and $ C_4/C_2 $, consistent with theoretical expectations for critical dynamics. These findings validate the robustness of these cumulant ratios as probes for the CEP, offering structured evidence for critical behavior in QCD matter.

Abstract:We investigate critical slowing down in the local updating continuous-time Quantum Monte Carlo method by relating the finite size scaling of Fisher Zeroes to the dynamically generated gap, through the scaling of their respective critical exponents. As we comment, the nonlinear sigma model representation derived through the harniltonian of our lattice spin model can also be used to give a effective treatment of planar anomalous dimensions in N=4 SYM. We present scaling arguments from our FSS analysis to discuss quantum corrections and recent 2-loop results, and further comment on the prospects of extending this approach for calculating higher twist parton distributions.

Abstract:Evolving the size distribution of solid aggregates challenges simulations of young stellar objects. Among other difficulties, generic formulae for stability conditions of explicit solvers provide severe constrains when integrating the coagulation equation for astrophysical objects. Recent numerical experiments have recently reported that these generic conditions may be much too stringent. By analysing the coagulation equation in the Laplace space, we explain why this is indeed the case and provide a novel stability condition which avoids time over-sampling.

Effective Critical Exponents for Dimensional Ccrossover and Quantum Systems from an Environmentally Friendly Renormalization Group

Abstract:Series for the Wilson functions of an ``environmentally friendly'' renormalization group are computed to two loops, for an $O(N)$ vector model, in terms of the ``floating coupling'', and resummed by the Padé method to yield crossover exponents for finite size and quantum systems. The resulting effective exponents obey all scaling laws, including hyperscaling in terms of an effective dimensionality, ${d\ef}=4-\gl$, which represents the crossover in the leading irrelevant operator, and are in excellent agreement with known results.

Improvement for Color Glass Condensate Factorization: Single Hadron Production in Pa Collisions at Next-to-leading Order

Abstract:High-order calculation at the semihard scale in high-energy collisions is very important, but a satisfactory calculation framework is still missing. We propose a systematic method to regularize the rapidity divergence in color glass condensate (CGC) factorization, which makes higher-order calculation rigorous and straightforward. By applying this method to the single hadron production in the pA collision, we find the kinematic constraint effect introduced by hand in previous works comes out automatically, but with different values. The difference is crucial for our next-to-leading-order result to have a smaller theoretical uncertainty compared with leading-order result, which makes the high-order calculation in CGC factorization be useful. As a byproduct, the negativity problem found in the literature can also be overcome in our framework by properly choosing the factorization scale.
Next-to-leading power corrections to the event shape variables

Abstract:We investigate the origin of next-to-leading power corrections to the event shapes thrust and $c$-parameter, at next-to-leading order. For both event shapes we trace the origin of such terms in the exact calculation, and compare with a recent approach involving the eikonal approximation and momentum shifts that follow from the Low-Burnett-Kroll-Del Duca theorem. We assess the differences both analytically and numerically. For the $c$-parameter both exact and approximate results are expressed in terms of elliptic integrals, but near the elastic limit it exhibits patterns similar to the thrust results.

Abstract:Abstract This article presents an educational overview of the latest mathematical developments in coupled cluster (CC) theory, beginning with Schneider's seminal work from 2009 that introduced the first local analysis of CC theory. We provide a tutorial review of second quantization and the CC ansatz, laying the groundwork for understanding the mathematical basis of the theory. This is followed by a detailed exploration of the most recent mathematical advancements in CC theory. Our review starts with an in‐depth look at the local analysis pioneered by Schneider which has since been applied to various CC methods. We subsequently discuss the graph‐based framework for CC methods developed by Csirik and Laestadius. This framework provides a comprehensive platform for comparing different CC methods, including multireference approaches. Next, we delve into the latest numerical analysis results analyzing the single reference CC method developed by Hassan, Maday, and Wang. This very general approach is based on the invertibility of the CC function's Fréchet derivative. We conclude the article with a discussion on the recent incorporation of algebraic geometry into CC theory, highlighting how this novel and fundamentally different mathematical perspective has furthered our understanding and provides exciting pathways to new computational approaches.

$h_c$ production at hadron colliders

Abstract:In this paper, we present the study of the hadroproduction rate of h(c) at next-to-leading order in a(s) under the nonrelativisitic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, using color-octet long-distance matrix elements obtained from a global fit of experimental measurements on chi(c) yield and the ratio d sigma(chi(c2))/d sigma(chi(c1)) from the CDF, LHCb, CMS, and ATLAS Collaborations. This paper considers the problem of NRQCD scale dependence for the first time, and finds that, for some experimental conditions, the choice of this scale can significantly affect the final results, which indicates that, for these conditions, theoretical evaluation up to next-to-leading order cannot provide sufficiently precise predictions. We also present a brief analysis on the NRQCD scale dependence problem, and provide a criterion to determine in which case next-to-leading order prediction would be ruined by the scale dependence.
Soft-gluon effective coupling: perturbative results and the large-nF limit to all orders

Abstract:We consider extensions of the soft-gluon effective coupling that generalize the Catani--Marchesini--Webber (CMW) coupling in the context of soft-gluon resummation beyond the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Starting from the probability density of correlated soft emission in d dimensions we introduce a class of soft couplings relevant for resummed QCD calculations of hard-scattering observables. We show that at the conformal point, where the d-dimensional QCD $\beta$ function vanishes, all these effective couplings are equal and they are also equal to the cusp anomalous dimension. We present explicit results in d dimensions for the soft-emission probability density and the soft couplings at the second-order in the QCD coupling $\alpha_s$. In d=4 dimensions we obtain the explicit relation between the soft couplings at ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^3).$ Finally, we study the structure of the soft coupling in the large-$n_F$ limit and we present explicit expressions to all orders in perturbation theory. We also check that, at the conformal point, our large-$n_F$ results agree with the known result of the cusp anomalous dimension.

Abstract:We present the first results for the next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) corrections to the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. We consider the quark initiated flavor nonsinglet process and obtain the complete contributions analytically at leading color. All relevant virtual and real emission Feynman diagrams have been computed using integration-by-parts reduction to master integrals and two approaches for their subsequent evaluation (parametric phase-space integration and method of differential equations). Abstract:Lifetimes of higher-lying states ( and ) in C have been measured, employing the Gammasphere and Microball detector arrays, as key observables to test and refine ab initio calculations based on interactions developed within chiral Effective Field Theory. The presented experimental constraints to these lifetimes of and , combined with previous results on the lifetime of the state of C, provide a rather complete set of key observables to benchmark the theoretical developments. We present No-Core Shell-Model calculations using state-of-the-art chiral 2- (NN) and 3-nucleon (3N) interactions at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order for both the NN and the 3N contributions and a generalized natural-orbital basis (instead of the conventional harmonic-oscillator single-particle basis) which reproduce, for the first time, the experimental findings remarkably well. The level of agreement of the new calculations as compared to the CD-Bonn meson-exchange NN interaction is notable and presents a critical benchmark for theory.
