Abstract:Development of holomorphy-based methods in super-Yang-Mills theories started in the early 1980s and lead to a number of breakthrough results. I review some results in which I participated. The discovery of Seiberg's duality and the Seiberg-Witten solution of ${\cal N}=2$ Yang-Mills were the milestones in the long journey of which, I assume, much will be said in other talks. I will focus on the discovery (2003) of non-Abelian vortex strings with various degree of supersymmetry, supported in some four-dimensional Yang-Mills theories and some intriguing implications of this discovery. One of the recent results is the observation of a soliton string in the bulk ${\cal N}=2$ theory with the $U(2)$ gauge group and four flavors, which can become critical in a certain limit. This is the case of a "reverse holography," with a very transparent physical meaning.

Abstract:Forty-six years after the birth of supersymmetry in 1973 from works of Julius Wess and Bruno Zumino, the standard quantum-field-theorists and particle physicists' language ofsuperspaces',supersymmetry', andsupersymmetric action functionals in superspace formulation'as given in Chapters IV, V, VI, VII, XXII of the classic on supersymmetry and supergravity: Julius Wess & Jonathan Bagger: Supersymmetry and Supergravity (2nd ed.), is finally polished, with only minimal mathematical patches added for consistency and accuracy in dealing with nilpotent objects from the Grassmann algebra involved, to a precise setting in the language of complexified -graded -Algebraic Geometry. This is completed after the lesson learned from D (14.1)(arXiv: 1808.05011 [math. DG]) and the notion of, towered superspaces' as complexified -graded -schemes, their distinguished sectors, and purge-evaluation maps first developed in SUSY (1)(= D (14.1. Supp. 1))(arXiv: 1902.06246 [hep-th]) and further polished in the current work. While the construction depends on a choice of a trivialization of the spinor bundle by covariantly constant sections, as long as the transformation law and the induced isomorphism under a change of trivialization of the spinor bundle by covariantly constant sections are understood, any object or structure thus defined or constructed is mathematically well-defined. The construction can be generalized to all other space-time dimensions with simple or extended supersymmetries. This is part of the mathematical foundation required to study fermionic D-branes in the Ramond-Neveu-Schwarz formulation.

Abstract:The development in the early eighties of supergravity grand unified models with gravity mediated breaking of supersymmetry, has led to a remarkable progress in the study of supersymmetry at colliders, in dark matter and in a variety of other experimental searches in the intervening years since that time. The purpose of this note is to review this development and describe our construction of this theory in the period 1982-85.

Abstract:Abdus Salam was a true master of 20th Century Theoretical Physics. Not only was he a pioneer of the Standard Model (for which he shared the Nobel Prize with S. Glashow and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.Weinberg" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>), but he also (co)authored many other outstanding contributions to the field of Fundamental Interactions and their unification. In particular, he was a major contributor to the development of supersymmetric theories, where he also coined the word "Supersymmetry" (replacing the earlier "Supergauges" drawn from String Theory). He also introduced the basic concept of "Superspace" and the notion of "Goldstone Fermion"(Goldstino). These concepts proved instrumental for the exploration of the ultraviolet properties and for the study of spontaneously broken phases of super Yang-Mills theories and Supergravity. They continue to play a key role in current developments in Early-Universe Cosmology. In this contribution we review models of inflation based on Supergravity with spontaneously broken local supersymmetry, with emphasis on the role of nilpotent superfields to describe a de Sitter phase of our Universe.

Abstract:A large class of supergravities in diverse dimensions are surveyed. This includes maximal supergravities, their general gaugings in the framework of embedding tensor formalism, supergravities with less than maximal supersymmetry, their matter couplings and general gaugings. The emphasis is on summarizing their most general form to date, and primarily in their component formulation. A class of exceptional field theories in an extended geometric framework are summarized briefly. For most of the supergravities surveyed, the bosonic part of the Lagrangians and supertransformations up to leading terms in fermions are given.

Abstract:In this paper, we present and classify the supersymmetric extensions of extended kinematical algebras, at the basis of non-Lorentzian physics theories. The diverse kinematical superalgebras are here derived by applying non- and ultra-relativistic expansion procedures involving different semigroups. We then build three-dimensional Chern-Simons non-Lorentzian supergravity theories based on such (extended) kinematical superalgebras, providing the supersymmetry transformation laws of the fields and the field equations of the models, which correspond to the vanishing of the curvature two-forms. In fact, the expansion procedure adopted allows to automatically end up with a non-degenerate bilinear invariant trace for the (extended) kinematical superalgebras. The latter is a crucial ingredient of the Chern-Simons field-theoretical formulation, as it allows to include a kinetic term for each gauge field of the theory, implying the vanishing of the curvature two-forms as field equations.

Abstract:The generalised-geometric formulation of 10-dimensional supergravity suggests a particular simple "limit", which results in a theory whose only dynamical degrees of freedom are the dilaton and the dilatino. The theory is still invariant both under generalised diffeomorphisms and a local supersymmetry and in many aspects is structurally similar to the original supergravity, which makes it a convenient playground for understanding more subtle aspects of the full physical setup. In particular, the simplicity and the geometric nature of the dilatonic theory allow us to build a full BV extension to all orders in the fermionic variables.

Abstract:In this contribution, we present the geometric approach to supergravity. In the first part, we discuss in some detail the peculiarities of the approach and apply the formalism to the case of pure supergravity in four space-time dimensions. In the second part, we extend the discussion to theories in higher dimensions, which include antisymmetric tensors of degree higher than one, focussing on the case of eleven dimensional space-time. Here, we report the formulation first introduced in 1981 by R. D'Auria and P. Frè, corresponding to a generalization of a Chevalley-Eilenberg Lie algebra, together with some more recent results, pointing out the relation of the formalism with the mathematical framework of $L_\infty$ algebras.

Abstract:New trends in inflationary model building and dark matter production in supergravity are considered. Starobinsky inflation is embedded into N = 1 supergravity, avoiding instability problems, when the inflaton belongs to a vector superfield associated with a U(1) gauge symmetry, instead of a chiral superfield. This gauge symmetry can be spontaneously broken by the super-Higgs mechanism resulting in a massive vector super-multiplet including the (real scalar) inflaton field. Both supersymmetry (SUSY) and the R-symmetry can also be spontaneously broken by the Polonyi mechanism at high scales close to the inflationary scale. In this case, Polonyi particles and gravitinos become superheavy, and can be copiously produced during inflation by the Schwinger mechanism sourced by the universe expansion. The Polonyi mass slightly exceeds twice the gravitino mass, so that Polonyi particles are unstable and decay into gravitinos. Considering the mechanisms of superheavy gravitino production, we find that the right amount of cold dark matter composed of gravitinos can be achieved. In our scenario, the parameter space of the inflaton potential is directly related to the dark matter one, providing a new unifying framework of inflation and dark matter genesis. A multi-superfield extension of the supergravity framework with a single (inflaton) superfield can result in a formation of primordial nonlinear structures like mini- and stellar-mass black holes, primordial nongaussianity, and the running spectral index of density fluctuations. This framework can be embedded into the SUSY GUTs inspired by heterotic string compactifications on Calabi-Yau three-folds, thus unifying particle physics with quantum gravity.

Abstract:We give an overview of the different non-Lorentzian supergravity theories in diverse dimensions that have been constructed in recent years. After giving a detailed discussion of non-Lorentzian geometries as compared to Lorentzian geometries, we outline some of the construction methods that have been applied to obtain non-Lorentzian supergravity. Explicit results are given for non-Lorentzian supergravity theories in three and ten dimensions.

Abstract:We present a simple model for relativistic gravity. The model represents a gravitational field by a metric on a Minkowski space background. We introduce a new Lorentz-covariant metric for a single-source gravitation field, which is determined by the retarded position and the velocity of the source. This metric passes the tests and properly describes the strong gravitational field. Using this metric, we define the metric of a field generated by several moving sources. The explicit true acceleration of an object moving in this field is derived from the ``first-order" (in the masses of the sources) acceleration, which is linear in the sources. The field splits into near and far fields. We compare the far gravitational field of a binary star with electromagnetic quadruple radiation and present an algorithm for computing accelerations in such a field. These results may lead to a new understanding of gravitational waves and the structure and dynamics of galaxies

Abstract:We discuss the Einstein tensor, the supercurrent and their conservation laws of old and new minimal formulations of supergravity in the superconformal approach. The variation of the action with respect to the gauge field of the $R$-symmetry in the conformal approach (the auxiliary field in the super-Poincaré action) allows to find the Einstein tensor and supercurrent in any curved background. Hence generalized expressions for their Ward identities follow.
