Abstract:Quantum error correction has given us a natural language for the emergence of spacetime, but the black hole interior poses a challenge for this framework: at late times the apparent number of interior degrees of freedom in effective field theory can vastly exceed the true number of fundamental degrees of freedom, so there can be no isometric (i.e. inner-product preserving) encoding of the former into the latter. In this paper we explain how quantum error correction nonetheless can be used to explain the emergence of the black hole interior, via the idea of "non-isometric codes protected by computational complexity". We show that many previous ideas, such as the existence of a large number of "null states", a breakdown of effective field theory for operations of exponential complexity, the quantum extremal surface calculation of the Page curve, post-selection, "state-dependent/state-specific" operator reconstruction, and the "simple entropy" approach to complexity coarse-graining, all fit naturally into this framework, and we illustrate all of these phenomena simultaneously in a soluble model.

Abstract:The information loss paradox is often discussed from the perspective of the observers who stay outside of a black hole. However, the interior spacetime of a black hole can be rather nontrivial. We discuss the open problems regarding the volume of a black hole, and whether it plays any role in information storage. We also emphasize the importance of resolving the black hole singularity, if one were to resolve the information loss paradox.

Abstract:We investigate the major mathematical theories of space from a modal standpoint: topology, affine geometry, metric geometry, and vector algebra. This allows us to see new fine-structure in spatial patterns which suggests analogies across these mathematical theories in terms of modal, temporal, and conditional logics. Throughout the modal walk through space, expressive power is analyzed in terms of language design, bisimulations, and correspondence phenomena. The result is both unification across the areas visited, and the uncovering of interesting new questions.

Abstract:The world of mathematics is often considered abstract, with its symbols, concepts, and topics appearing unrelated to physical objects. However, it is important to recognize that the development of mathematics is fundamentally influenced by a basic fact: mathematicians and computers are physical objects subject to the laws of physics. Through an analysis of the Turing machine, it becomes evident that Turing and his contemporaries overlooked a physical possibility: information carriers can be quantum systems. As a result, computing models like the Turing machine can only process classical information, limiting their computing power. Gödel's incompleteness theorem highlights the basic fact that mathematicians and computers are made up of finite numbers of atoms and molecules. They can only start with a finite number of axioms, use a finite number of symbols and deduction rules, and arrive at theorems with a finite number of steps. While the number of proofs may be infinite after including all future mathematicians and computers, they must still be enumerable. In contrast, the number of mathematical statements is uncountable, meaning that there will always be mathematical statements that cannot be proved true or false. Just as Landauer claimed that information is physical, mathematics is also physical, limited or empowered by the physical entities that carry it out or embody it.

Abstract:Most creative outputs are readily classified as belonging to a particular domain such as art, music, or technology. But does that mean the creative thinking that goes into creative projects respects these conventional domain boundaries? This question provides the departure point for this chapter. It is an important question because the answer has implications for how the creative process works, as well as for computational models of creativity, and thus it provides the departure point for this chapter. Next we look at how the creator sifts out from its vast contents those items to incorporate into a creative project, and converts these raw materials into a form that "gels" with the project. We then explore the hypothesis that the creative mind forges "mental wormholes" that connect concepts and percepts, often from seemingly disparate domains. Finally, we take a brief look at the strangely non-compositional interactions that take place in these mental wormholes, and techniques being advanced to model and understand these interactions.

Abstract:This book provides an introduction to the theory of digital (molecular) spaces (TDS). Digital spaces are combinatorial models of continuous spaces. TDS is one of alternative branches of digital topology that studies constructing and modifying 2, 3 and n-dimensional digital image arrays in a computer and its memory. Demands for mathematical theory of multidimensional spaces built of finite number of points appeared in connection with the use of many dimensional images in computer programs. This work presents, as examples, digital models of n-dimensional Euclidean spaces, n-dimensional spheres, a torus, a projective plane, etc. Methods of TMS can work successfully in such areas as biology, chemistry, industry, medicine, etc. The book is organized as follows. Digital models of continuous spaces are the intersection graphs of special locally centered lamp covers of continuous spaces. Digital models are represented by graphs, algebraic matrices and a set of unit cubes in n-dimensional Euclidean space. The main mathematical characteristics of digital models of continuous spaces, such as the dimension, the Euler characteristic, the homology groups and others, are the same as those of their continuous counterparts. Contractible transformations of digital spaces, that change the number of elements, do not change the mathematical characteristics and properties of digital spaces. The main goal is to construct digital models of continuous spaces and to explain how to use the new methods to work with mathematical objects. The emphasis is on introducing the readers to the basics and conceptual understanding of what TDS is.

Abstract:We take our world to be an objective reality, but is it? The assumption that the physical world exists in and of itself has struggled to assimilate the findings of modern physics for some time now. For example, an objective space and time would just "be", but in relativity, space contracts and time dilates. Likewise objective "things" should just inherently exist, but the entities of quantum theory are probability of existence smears, that spread, tunnel, superpose and entangle in physically impossible ways. Cosmology even tells us that our entire physical universe just "popped up", from nowhere, about 14 billion years ago. This is not how an objectively real world should behave! Yet traditional alternatives don't work much better. That the world is just an illusion of the mind doesn't explain its consistent realism and Descartes dualism, that another reality beyond the physical exists, just doubles the existential problem. It is time to consider an option we might normally dismiss out of hand. This essay explores the virtual reality conjecture, that the physical world is the digital output of non-physical quantum processing. It finds it neither illogical, nor unscientific, nor incompatible with current physics. In this model, quantum entities are programs, movement is the transfer of processing, interactions are processing overloads and the fields of physics are network properties. It has no empty space, no singularities and all the conservations of physics just conserve processing. Its prediction, that the collision of high frequency light in a vacuum can create permanent matter, will test it. If the physical world has the properties of a processing output, physics must rewrite the story behind its equations.

Abstract:A critical overview of the concepts that govern the principles of the Eternally Collapsing Object (ECO) is entailed in this article. The mathematical analysis will be dealt to conclude the proof required for the ECO paradigm is ad-hoc in nature at best. The first section details in rejecting black holes always considers the possibility of formation of trapped surfaces, so we will begin our work by looking into "non occurrence of trapped surfaces" then we analyze Dr. Mitra's indirect claim regarding how $ R = 0$ (inside black hole) could also be treated as another coordinate singularity. After this a detailed analysis on the claim that the mass of the Schwarzschild black hole being zero is in actuality a valid claim or not. The main aim of this article is address the core issue of whether black holes indeed do exist or is it a consequence of biases that circumvent common sense over the years. This article aims to bridge the gap between ECOs and black holes and if at all black holes do exist, which was vehemently denied by the person whose paper I am reviewing. The analysis presented here will show us, why ECOs are baseless and can not really be the solution to black hole problem.

Abstract:From antiquity the conceptual perception of space changed painfully and at a relatively slow pace. It went through mythological descriptions, religious beliefs, metaphysical worldviews and cosmological models with a mechanistic structure, until it reached the Newtonian perception of the infinite and homogeneous three-dimensional continuum, which dominates to this day as a "common perception" even in education. This perception of space, which today seems self-evident, is the culmination of a long historical development, which we will try to outline. Our aim is to briefly present the conceptual course of models related to natural space from antiquity to the 20th century, focusing on the theories and models that can be mathematized. At the same time we try to highlight one of the most important starting points of geometric concepts, which is the need for mathematical modeling of physical space, as in modern education there is no such view.

Abstract:Practicing mathematicians often assume that mathematical claims, when they are true, have good reasons to be true. Such a state of affairs is "unreasonable", in Wigner's sense, because basic results in computational complexity suggest that there are a large number of theorems that have only exponentially-long proofs, and such proofs can not serve as good reasons for the truths of what they establish. Either mathematicians are adept at encountering only the reasonable truths, or what mathematicians take to be good reasons do not always lead to equivalently good proofs. Both resolutions raise new problems: either, how it is that we come to care about the reasonable truths before we have any inkling of how they might be proved, or why there should be good reasons, beyond those of deductive proof, for the truth of mathematical statements. Taking this dilemma seriously provides a new way to make sense of the unstable ontologies found in contemporary mathematics, and new ways to understand how non-human, but intelligent, systems might found new mathematics on inhuman "alien" lemmas.

Abstract:This thesis is about logics of space. In it we use various semantic and axiomatic techniques from modal logic and topology to devise a class of increasingly stronger logics of space. The underlying intuition is that in many current academic disciplines spatial intuition and spatial reasoning seem essential. The spectrum includes applied areas such as guiding robots through real three-dimensional space, but also fundamental reasoning about knowledge, processing and updating of information. The thesis makes some initial steps in understanding the structure of space with efficient languages of modal logic, with the ultimate aim of applying them to a wide variety of pure and applied cognitive settings.
