Abstract:We have studied the $CP$ violation discovery reach in neutrino oscillation experiment with superbeam in presence of non-standard interactions of neutrinos with matter for both short and long baselines. For the most important channel of oscillation ($\nu_\mu \rightarrow \nu_e$) for $CP$ violation discovery there is significant effect in the oscillation probability particularly due to NSIs' $\varepsilon_{e\mu}$ and $\varepsilon_{e\tau}$ for longer baseline and higher energy in comparison to other NSIs'. Interestingly for these two NSIs' (for real and higher allowed values) there is possibility of better discovery reach of $CP$ violation than that with only Standard Model interactions of neutrinos with matter provided that NSI values are known. For complex NSIs' we have shown the $CP$ violation discovery reach in the plane of Dirac phase $\delta$ and NSI phase $\phi_{ij}$. Our analysis indicates that for some values of some NSI phases total $CP$ violation may not be observable for any values of $\delta $.

Abstract:We review the basic mechanisms of neutrino mass generation and the corresponding structure of the lepton mixing matrix. We summarize the status of three-neutrino oscillation parameters as determined from current observations, using state-of-the-art solar and atmospheric neutrino fluxes, as well as latest experimental data as of September 2007. We also comment on recent attempts to account for these results and to understand flavour from first principles. We discuss extensively the prospects for probing the strength of CP violation in two near term accelerator neutrino oscillation experiments, T2K and NOvA, as well as possible extensions such as T2KK and a second large off-axis detector near the NOvA detector. We also briefly discuss the possibility of probing the effect of Majorana phases in future neutrinoless double beta decay searches and discuss other implications of leptonic CP violation such as leptogenesis. Finally we comment on the issue of robustness of the current oscillation interpretation and possible ways of probing for non-standard neutrino interactions in precision oscillation studies.

Abstract:We perform realistic simulations of the current and future long baseline experiments such as T2K, NOνA, DUNE and T2HK in order to determine their ultimate potential in probing neutrino oscillation parameters. We quantify the potential of these experiments to underpin the octant of the atmospheric angle θ23 as well as the value and sign of the CP phase δCP. We do this both in general, as well as within the predictive framework of a previously proposed [1] benchmark theory of neutrino oscillations which tightly correlates θ23 and δCP.

Abstract:An important goal of current and future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments pertains to determination of the Dirac-type leptonic $CP$ phase, $\delta_{13}$. We consider the new physics scenario of an eV scale sterile neutrino along with three active neutrinos and demonstrate the impact on the $CP$ and $T$ violation measurements in neutrino oscillations. We address the question of disentangling the intrinsic effects from extrinsic effects in the standard three neutrino paradigm as well as the scenario with added light sterile neutrino. We define a metric to isolate the two kinds of effects and our approach is general in the sense that it is independent of the choice of $\delta_{13}$. We study the role of different appearance and disappearance channels which can contribute to CP and T violation measurements. We perform the analysis for different long baseline experiments which have different detection capabilities such as Water Cherenkov (WC) and Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC).

Abstract:Small neutrino masses confirmed in the neutrino oscillation experiments indicate the need for new physics beyond the standard model. Seesaw mechanism is an interesting way to extend the standard model for explaining the neutrino masses. In a low-scale type-I seesaw mechanism, the tiny masses of neutrinos can be explained by heavy Majorana neutrino masses. Heavy Majorana neutrinos can lead to lepton-number-violating processes and the induced CP violation can contribute to the baryon asymmetry in the Universe. Heavy Majorana neutrinos can also lead to lepton-number-conserving processes and in this paper, we study the CP violation in lepton-number-conserving processes through heavy Majorana neutrinos at future lepton colliders. New possible observations of CP violation can also be connected to evidences of new physics beyond the standard model.

Long Baseline Neutrino Oscillation Results (T2K and NOvA)

Abstract:The well-established neutrino oscillation phenomenon, which confirms neutrinos have mass and the charged and neutral leptons are mixed, has been widely exploited to investigate the physics of this elusive particle. The complete description of neutrino oscillations, which are dictated by two mass-squared splittings, three mixing angles, and one Dirac CP-violation phase, however, has yet to be reached. The ongoing accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino experiments, T2K and NOvA, are critical in completing this picture. Using data and analyses accessible by summer 2023, T2K favors a leptonic CP violation at more than 90\% C.L. while NOvA shows no preference of this indication. Both experiments weakly opt for the \emph{normal} neutrino mass ordering and higher octant of the $\theta_{23}$ mixing angle.

Abstract:Characteristics of ion acceleration in the internal magnetic reconnection events (IRE) have been studied by means of a neutral particle energy analyzer (NPA) in Tokyo Spherical Tokamak (TST-2). The major and minor radii are 0.38 m and 0.25m, respectively. The magnetic field strength is 0.3T and the maximum plasma current is up to 140 kA. The electron and ion temperatures are 0.4-0.5 keV and 0.1 keV, respectively and the electron density is ~1x1019 m-3. The NPA can be scanned toroidally from q = 74° (cw) to q = 114° (ccw), where q = 90° corresponds to the perpendicular sightline. The direction of the plasma current is cw. The NPA signals are digitized at every 50 ms. The NPA is calibrated in the energy range of 0.1 keV < E < 8.4 keV. When the IRE occurs, it is observed that the plasma current increases by ~ 20% and the loop voltage drops from 0.6 V to-5 V for ~ 0.1 ms. The enhanced charge exchange flux is observed by more than one order of magnitude at ~ 1 keV for this reconnection phase. The ion temperature increases by 80 eV at IREs. The angle q dependence of increment of Ti shows that DTi (q = 74°) is higher than that for q = 114°. This observation suggests that an ion is accelerated initially in the direction of magnetic field lines. The time evolution of the ion distribution function is simulated with a Fokker-Planck code taking into account the electric field effects.

Such a model- and parametrization-independent result will be particularly useful to recast the fundamental lepton flavor mixing matrix from the future long-baseline neutrino experiments.

Abstract:The phenomenon of neutrino oscillation is of great theoretical and experimental interest for our understand of the nature of the neutrino and its implication for physics beyond the standard Model. Currently available neutrino oscillation experiments can already constrain neutrino mixing parameters with a confidence level up to 3 standard deviations ( σ ). However, it remains challenging to provide a deterministic constraint on the Charge-Parity (CP) violation phase of the neutrino mixing matrix. Here, we propose an experimental setup that exploits collimated muon beams to probe neutrino CP-violation. In our proposed acceleration experiment, a 45 GeV positron source with additional muon collimation, interfaces with near-future neutrino detectors like DUNE and T2K, to probe neutrino CP-violation phase with a significantly higher sensitivity than obtained with the neutrino detectors alone, and to determine tau neutrino properties. Simulations estimate the collection of 10 4 tau (anti-) neutrino in 5 years, and a sensitivity of over 7 standard deviations for δ CP = ∣ π /2 ∣ in 5 years. Collecting ν τ appearance events from μ − and μ + beams over 10 years can attain a 3-4 standard deviation sensitivity. This proposal may serve as a tau factory.

Abstract:The best way to probe CP violation in the lepton sector is with long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiments in the appearance mode: the appearance of νe in predominantly νμ beams. Here we show that it is possible to discover CP violation with disappearance experiments only, by combining JUNO for electron neutrinos and DUNE or Hyper-Kamiokande for muon neutrinos. Abstract:The tiny neutrino masses can be explained naturally by extending the standard model with right-handed Majorana neutrinos in a low-scale seesaw mechanism, and the CP violation effect induced by the Majorana phase is interesting and worth studying at colliders. In this paper, we investigate the prospects for measuring CP violation in top quark pair production and rare decay via Majorana neutrinos at the LHC. The CP asymmetry stems from the significant interference of contributions from two different Majorana neutrinos and can be appreciable when the two neutrino masses are nearly degenerate. It is found that in the Majorana neutrino mass range of 10 GeV<mn<80 gev , the CP asymmetry is independent of the Majorana neutrino mass at the LHC. Exploring the Interference between the Atmospheric and Solar Neutrino Oscillation Sub-Amplitudes

Abstract:The interference between the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillation sub-amplitudes is said to be responsible for CP violation (CPV) in neutrino appearance channels. More precisely, CPV is generated by the interference between the parts of the neutrino oscillation amplitude which are CP even and CP odd: even or odd when the neutrino mixing matrix is replaced with its complex conjugate. This is the CPV interference term, as it gives a contribution to the oscillation probability, the square of the amplitude, which is opposite in sign for neutrinos and anti-neutrinos and is unique. For this interference to be non-zero, at least two sub-amplitudes are required. There are, however, other interference terms, which are even under the above exchange, these are the CP conserving (CPC) interference terms. In this paper, we explore in detail these CPC interference terms and show that they cannot be uniquely defined, as one can move pieces of the amplitude from the atmospheric sub-amplitude to the solar sub-amplitude and vice versa. This freedom allows one to move the CPC interference terms around, but does not let you eliminate them completely. We also show that there is a reasonable definition of the atmospheric and solar sub-amplitudes for the appearance channels such that in neutrino disappearance probability there is no atmospheric-solar CPC interference term. However, with this choice, there is a CPC interference term within the atmospheric sector.

Abstract:The probabilities of $\nu^{}_{\mu} \to \nu^{}_{e}$ and $\overline{\nu}^{}_{\mu} \to \overline{\nu}^{}_{e}$ oscillations in vacuum are determined by the CP-conserving flavor mixing factors ${\cal R}^{}_{ij} \equiv {\rm Re} (U^{}_{\mu i} U^{}_{e j} U^{*}_{\mu j} U^{*}_{e i})$ and the universal Jarlskog invariant of CP violation ${\cal J}^{}_{\nu} \equiv (-1)^{i+j} \; {\rm Im} (U^{}_{\mu i} U^{}_{e j} U^{*}_{\mu j} U^{*}_{e i})$ (for $i, j = 1, 2, 3$ and $i < j$), where $U$ is the $3\times 3$ Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata neutrino mixing matrix. We show that ${\cal J}^{2}_{\nu} = {\cal R}^{}_{12} {\cal R}^{}_{13} + {\cal R}^{}_{12} {\cal R}^{}_{23} + {\cal R}^{}_{13} {\cal R}^{}_{23}$ holds as a natural consequence of the unitarity of $U$. This Pythagoras-like relation may provide a novel cross-check of the result of ${\cal J}^{}_{\nu}$ that will be directly measured in the next-generation long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Indirect non-unitarity effects and terrestrial matter effects on ${\cal J}^{}_{\nu}$ and ${\cal R}^{}_{ij}$ are also discussed.

Abstract:The observation of neutrino masses leads to the possibility of leptonic mixing and CP violation. One of the simplest extensions of the Standard Model giving rise to neutrino masses consists of the introduction of one righthanded neutrino field per generation, singlet of SU(2). In the context of the seesaw mechanism this leads to three light and three heavy neutrinos. The charged current interactions couple the charged leptons to both the light and the heavy physical neutrinos and leptonic CP violation may occur at low energies as well as at high energies giving rise to the possibility of leptogenesis. There are special scenarios where it is possible to establish a connection between CP violation at the two different scales, an interesting example is included in this work. Furthermore, we describe how the conjecture that all phenomena of CP violation present in nature could have a common origin can be realized in the framework of a further minimal extension of the Standard Model with CP broken through the phase of the vacuum expectation value of a complex Higgs singlet.

Neutrino Oscillations from Warped Flavor Symmetry: Predictions for Long Baseline Experiments T2K, NOvA and DUNE

Abstract:Here we study the pattern of neutrino oscillations emerging from a previously proposed warped standard model construction incorporating Delta(27) flavor symmetry [J. High Energy Phys. 01 (2016) 007]. In addition to a complete description of fermion masses, the model predicts the lepton mixing matrix in terms of two parameters. The good measurement of. theta(13) makes these two parameters tightly correlated, leading to an approximate one-parameter description of neutrino oscillations. We find secondary minima for the CP phase absent in the general unconstrained oscillation scenario and determine the fourfold degenerate sharp correlation between the physical CP phase delta(CP) and the atmospheric mixing angle. theta(23). This implies that maximal. theta(23) correlates with maximal leptonic CP violation. We perform a realistic estimate of the total neutrino and antineutrino event numbers expected at long baseline oscillation experiments T2K, NOvA, and the upcoming DUNE proposal. We show how an improved knowledge of the CP phase will probe the model in a significant way.
Neutrino CP Measurement in the Presence of RG Running with Mismatched Momentum Transfers

Abstract:The neutrino mixing parameters are expected to have RG running effect in the presence of new physics. If the momentum transfers at production and detection mismatch with each other, the oscillation probabilities are generally modified and become dependent on not just the neutrino energy but also the momentum transfer. Even in the limit of vanishing baseline, the transition probability for the appearance channel is interestingly not zero. This would significantly affect the sensitivity of the genuine leptonic Dirac CP phase. We further explore the possibility of combing the long- and short-baseline neutrino experiments to constrain such RG running effect for the purpose of guaranteeing the CP measurement. To simulate the double dependence on the neutrino energy and momentum transfer, we extend the usual GLoBES simulation of fixed baseline experiments and use a two-dimensional $\chi^2$ analysis to obtain sensitivities.
