Abstract:In a previous paper we introduced the concept of semiseparable functor. Here we continue our study of these functors in connection with idempotent (Cauchy) completion. To this aim, we introduce and investigate the notions of (co)reflection and bireflection up to retracts. We show that the (co)comparison functor attached to an adjunction whose associated (co)monad is separable is a coreflection (reflection) up to retracts. This fact allows us to prove that a right (left) adjoint functor is semiseparable if and only if the associated (co)monad is separable and the (co)comparison functor is a bireflection up to retracts, extending a characterization pursued by X.-W. Chen in the separable case. Finally, we provide a semi-analogue of a result obtained by P. Balmer in the framework of pre-triangulated categories.

Abstract:We prove a Maschke type theorem for the category of Doi–Hopf modules. In fact, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the functor that forgets the C-coaction to be separable. This leads to a generalized notion of integrals. Our results can be applied to obtain Maschke type theorems for Yetter–Drinfel'd modules, Long dimodules, and modules graded by G-sets. Existing Maschke type theorems due to Doi and the authors are recovered as special cases.

Abstract:Let $U:\mathcal{C}\rightarrow\mathcal{D}$ be a strong monoidal functor between abelian monoidal categories admitting a right adjoint $R$, such that $R$ is exact, faithful and the adjunction $U\dashv R$ is coHopf. Building on the work of Balan, we show that $R$ is separable (resp., special) Frobenius monoidal if and only if $R(\mathbb{1}_{\mathcal{D}})$ is a separable (resp., special) Frobenius algebra in $\mathcal{C}$. If further, $\mathcal{C},\mathcal{D}$ are pivotal (resp., ribbon) categories and $U$ is a pivotal (resp., braided pivotal) functor, then $R$ is a pivotal (resp., ribbon) functor if and only if $R(\mathbb{1}_{\mathcal{D}})$ is a symmetric Frobenius algebra in $\mathcal{C}$. As an application, we construct Frobenius monoidal functors going into the Drinfeld center $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{C})$, thereby producing Frobenius algebras in it.

Abstract:Split opfibrations are functors equipped with a suitable choice of opcartesian lifts. The purpose of this paper is to characterise internal split opfibrations through separating the structure of a suitable choice of lifts from the property of these lifts being opcartesian. The underlying structure of an internal split opfibration is captured by an internal functor equipped with an internal cofunctor, while the property may be expressed as a pullback condition, akin to the simple condition on an internal functor to be an internal discrete opfibration. Furthermore, this approach provides two additional characterisations of internal split opfibrations, via the décalage construction and strict factorisation systems. For small categories, this theory clarifies several aspects of delta lenses which arise in computer science.

Abstract:There are theorems in the literature which are referred as Maschke type theorems, because of the attempt to generalize Maschke's classical theorem. Our remark is that all these theorems are in fact providing sufficient conditions for the separability of a certain forgetful functor. But, unlike classical Maschke's theorem, where the sufficient condition is also necessary, none of these theorems gives any necessary condition for the separability of the forgeful functor in question. Our job is to find a necessary and sufficient condition for the separability of the forgetful functor from the category of Doi-Hopf modules forgetting the comodule structure. As in the classical case, this functor is separable iff exists a certain "integral map" with a normalizing property. As particular cases, improved versions of "Maschke type" theorems are given. Other various applications are given. For example, keeping in mind that the category of Yetter-Drinfel'd modules is also a category of Doi-Hopf modules, we obtain the notion of quantum integral. For H a finite dimensional Hopf algebra, the existence of such a quantum integral is a necessary and sufficient condition for the Drinfel'd double to be a separable extension of H.

Abstract:We present an extension of the notion of in-splits from symbolic dynamics to topological graphs and, more generally, to -correspondences. We demonstrate that in-splits provide examples of strong shift equivalences of -correspondences. Furthermore, we provide a streamlined treatment of Muhly, Pask, and Tomforde's proof that any strong shift equivalence of regular -correspondences induces a (gauge-equivariant) Morita equivalence between Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. For topological graphs, we prove that in-splits induce diagonal-preserving gauge-equivariant -isomorphisms in analogy with the results for Cuntz-Krieger algebras. Additionally, we examine the notion of out-splits for -correspondences.

Abstract:We compare several quasi-Frobenius-type properties for corings that appeared recently in literature and provide several new characterizations for each of these properties. By applying the theory of Galois comodules with a firm coinvariant ring, we can characterize a locally quasi-Frobenius (quasi-co-Frobenius) coring as a locally projective generator in its category of comodules.

Abstract:Twisted separable functors generalize the separable functors of Nastasescu, Van den Bergh and Van Oystaeyen, and provide a convenient tool to compare various projective dimensions. We discuss when an adjoint functor is twisted separable, obtaining a version of Rafael's Theorem in the twisted case. As an application, we show that if $R$ is Hopf-Galois object over a Hopf algebra $A$, then their Hochschild cohomological dimension coincide, provided that the cohomological dimension of $A$ is finite and that $R$ has a unital twisted trace with respect to a semi-colinear automorphism.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of a separator for a morphism of schemes f:T\to S; in particular, it is universal among morphisms from T to separated S-schemes. A separator is a local isomorphism; this property conveys the intuition of gluing some affine covering more, in order to make the scheme separated. When f is quasi-separated, its separator exists if and only if the schematic closure of the diagonal projects on both factors by flat morphisms of finite type. In particular, f admits a separator if T is Noetherian Dedekind and S=Spec(Z), or if f is \'etale of finite presentation and S is normal. Any normal scheme of finite type over a Noetherian ring admits an open subset containing all the points of codimension 1, which has a separator. A contrario, we give several examples of morphisms f that do not admit a separator. As an application, we attach to every smooth scheme T over a normal base S a morphism to a separated \'etale S-scheme of finite presentation, which is universal (a kind of separated alternative for "scheme of connected components of the fibres"). This simultaneously generalizes the classical case where the base is a field, and the case of a smooth and proper morphism (Stein factorisation).

Abstract:Abstract We investigate the (separated) monomorphism category of a quiver over an Artin algebra . We show that there exists an epivalence (called representation equivalence in the terminology of Auslander) from to , where is the category of finitely generated ‐modules and and denote the respective injectively stable categories. Furthermore, if has at least one arrow, then we show that this is an equivalence if and only if is hereditary. In general, the epivalence induces a bijection between indecomposable objects in and noninjective indecomposable objects in , and we show that the generalized Mimo‐construction, an explicit minimal right approximation into , gives an inverse to this bijection. We apply these results to describe the indecomposables in the monomorphism category of radical square zero Nakayama algebras, and to give a bijection between the indecomposables in the monomorphism category of two artinian uniserial rings of Loewy length 3 with the same residue field. The main tool to prove these results is the language of a free monad of an exact endofunctor on an arbitrary abelian category. This allows us to avoid the technical combinatorics arising from quiver representations. The setup also specializes to more general settings, such as representations of modulations. In particular, we obtain new results on the singularity category of the algebras that were introduced by Geiss, Leclerc, and Schröer in order to extend their results relating cluster algebras and Lusztig's semicanonical basis to symmetrizable Cartan matrices. We also recover results on the algebras that were introduced by Lu and Wang to realize groups via semiderived Hall algebras.

Abstract:The notion of semifunctor between categories, due to [9], is defined as a functor that does not necessarily preserve identities. In this paper, we study how several properties of functors, such as fullness, full faithfulness, separability, natural fullness, can be formulated for semifunctors. Since a full semifunctor is actually a functor, we are led to introduce a notion of semifullness (and then semifull faithfulness) for semifunctors. In order to show that these conditions can be derived from requirements on the hom-set components associated with a semifunctor, we look at “semisplitting properties” for seminatural tranformations and we investigate the corresponding properties for morphisms whose source or target is the image of a semifunctor. We define the notion of naturally semifull semifunctor and we characterize natural semifullness for semifunctors that are part of a semiadjunction in terms of semisplitting conditions for the unit and counit attached to the semiadjunction. We study the behavior of semifunctors with respect to (semi)separability and we prove Rafael-type Theorems for (semi)separable semifunctors and a Maschke-type theorem for separable semifunctors. We provide examples of semifunctors on which we test the properties considered so far.

Projection formulas and induced functors on centers of monoidal categories

Abstract:Given a monoidal adjunction, we show that the right adjoint induces a braided lax monoidal functor between the corresponding Drinfeld centers provided that certain natural transformations, called projection formula morphisms, are invertible. We investigate these induced functors on Drinfeld centers in more detail for the monoidal adjunction of restriction and (co-)induction along morphisms of Hopf algebras. The resulting functors are applied to examples related to affine algebraic groups, quantum groups at roots of unity, and Radford--Majid biproducts of Hopf algebras. Moreover, we use the projection formula morphisms to prove a characterization theorem for monoidal Kleisli adjunctions and a crude monoidal monadicity theorem. The functor on Drinfeld centers induced by the Eilenberg--Moore adjunction is given in terms of local modules over commutative central monoids.

Admissible Skein Modules and Ansular Functors: A Comparison

Abstract:Given a finite ribbon category, which is a particular case of a cyclic algebra over the operad of genus zero surfaces, there are two possibilities for an extension defined on all three-dimensional handlebodies: On the one hand, one can use the admissible skein module construction of Costantino-Geer-Patureau-Mirand. On other hand, by a construction of the authors using Costello's modular envelope, one can build a so-called ansular functor, a handlebody version of the notion of a modular functor. Unlike the admissible skein modules with their construction through the Reshetikhin-Turaev graphical calculus, the ansular functor is defined purely through a universal property. In this note, we prove the widely held expectation that these constructions are related by giving an isomorphism between them, with the somewhat surprising subtlety that we need to include consistently on one of the sides an additional boundary component labeled by the distinguished invertible object of Etingof-Nikshych-Ostrik. In other words, the constructions agree on handlebodies up to a `background charge' that becomes trivial in the unimodular case. Our comparison result includes the handlebody group action as well as the skein algebra action.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with two weaker forms of injectivity which turn out to have a rich structure behind: separable injectivity and universal separable injectivity. We show several structural and stability properties of these classes of Banach spaces. We provide natural examples of (universally) separably injective spaces, including $\mathcal L_\infty$ ultraproducts built over countably incomplete ultrafilters, in spite of the fact that these ultraproducts are never injective. We obtain two fundamental characterizations of universally separably injective spaces: a) A Banach space $E$ is universally separably injective if and only if every separable subspace is contained in a copy of $\ell_\infty$ inside $E$. b) A Banach space $E$ is universally separably injective if and only if for every separable space $S$ one has $\Ext(\ell_\infty/S, E)=0$. The final Section of the paper focuses on special properties of 1-separably injective spaces. Lindenstrauss\ obtained in the middle sixties a result that can be understood as a proof that, under the continuum hypothesis, 1-separably injective spaces are 1-universally separably injective; he left open the question in {\sf ZFC}. We construct a consistent example of a Banach space of type $C(K)$ which is 1-separably injective but not 1-universally separably injective. We show that, under the continuum hypothesis, "to be universally separably injective" is not a $3$-space property, as we wrongly claimed in the paper mentioned in the title.
