Abstract:We discuss when the Rat functor associated to a coring satisfying the left $\alpha$-condition is exact. We study the category of comodules over a semiperfect coring. We characterize semiperfect corings over artinian rings and over qF-rings.

Abstract:By a theorem due to Kato and Ohtake, any (not necessarily strict) Morita context induces an equivalence between appropriate subcategories of the module categories of the two rings in the Morita context. These are in fact categories of firm modules for non-unital subrings. We apply this result to various Morita contexts associated to a comodule $\Sigma$ of an $A$-coring $\cC$. This allows to extend (weak and strong) structure theorems in the literature, in particular beyond the cases when any of the coring $\cC$ or the comodule $\Sigma$ is finitely generated and projective as an $A$-module. That is, we obtain relations between the category of $\cC$-comodules and the category of firm modules for a firm ring $R$, which is an ideal of the endomorphism algebra $^\cC(\Sigma)$. For a firmly projective comodule of a coseparable coring we prove a strong structure theorem assuming only surjectivity of the canonical map.

Abstract:We compare several quasi-Frobenius-type properties for corings that appeared recently in literature and provide several new characterizations for each of these properties. By applying the theory of Galois comodules with a firm coinvariant ring, we can characterize a locally quasi-Frobenius (quasi-co-Frobenius) coring as a locally projective generator in its category of comodules.

Abstract:The so called dense pairings were studied mainly by Radford in his work on coreflexive coalegbras over fields. They were generalized in a joint paper with Gómez-Torricillas and Lobillo to the so called rational pairings over a commutative ground ring R to study the interplay between the comodules of an R-coalgebra C and the modules of an R-algebra A that admits an R-algebra morphism κ : A → C*. Such pairings, satisfying the so called α-condition, were called in the author's dissertation measuring α-pairings and can be considered as the corner stone in his study of duality theorems for Hopf algebras over commutative rings. In this paper we lay the basis of the theory of rational modules of corings extending results on rational modules for coalgebras to the case of arbitrary ground rings. We apply these results mainly to categories of entwined modules (e.g., Doi-Koppinen modules, alternative Doi-Koppinen modules) generalizing results of Doi, Koppinen, Menini et al.

Flat comodules and contramodules as directed colimits, and cotorsion periodicity

Abstract:This paper is a follow-up to <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2212.09639" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09639">arXiv:2212.09639</a>. We consider two algebraic settings of comodules over a coring and contramodules over a topological ring with a countable base of two-sided ideals. These correspond to two (noncommutative) algebraic geometry settings of certain kind of stacks and ind-affine ind-schemes. In the context of a coring $\mathcal C$ over a noncommutative ring $A$, we show that all $A$-flat $\mathcal C$-comodules are $\aleph_1$-directed colimits of $A$-countably presentable $A$-flat $\mathcal C$-comodules. In the context of a complete, separated topological ring $\mathfrak R$ with a countable base of neighborhoods of zero consisting of two-sided ideals, we prove that all flat $\mathfrak R$-contramodules are $\aleph_1$-directed colimits of countably presentable flat $\mathfrak R$-contramodules. We also describe arbitrary complexes, short exact sequences, and pure acyclic complexes of $A$-flat $\mathcal C$-comodules and flat $\mathfrak R$-contramodules as $\aleph_1$-directed colimits of similar complexes of countably presentable objects. The arguments are based on a very general category-theoretic technique going back to an unpublished 1977 preprint of Ulmer and rediscovered in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2310.16773" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.16773">arXiv:2310.16773</a>. Applications to cotorsion periodicity and coderived categories of flat objects in the respective settings are discussed. In particular, in any acyclic complex of cotorsion $\mathfrak R$-contramodules, all the contramodules of cocycles are cotorsion.

The categories of corings and coalgebras over a ring are locally countably presentable

Abstract:For any commutative ring $R$, we show that the categories of $R$-coalgebras and cocommutative $R$-coalgebras are locally $\aleph_1$-presentable, while the categories of $R$-flat $R$-coalgebras are $\aleph_1$-accessible. Similarly, for any associative ring $R$, the category of $R$-corings is locally $\aleph_1$-presentable, while the category of $R$-$R$-bimodule flat $R$-corings is $\aleph_1$-accessible. The cardinality of the ring $R$ can be arbitrarily large. We also discuss $R$-corings with surjective counit and flat kernel. The proofs are straightforward applications of an abstract category-theoretic principle going back to Ulmer. For right or two-sided $R$-module flat $R$-corings, our cardinality estimate for the accessibility rank is not as good. A generalization to comonoid objects in accessible monoidal categories is also considered.

Costability of Comodules

Abstract:Given a ring $R$, we have a classical result stating that the ordinary category of modules is the abelianization of the category of augmented $R$-algebras. Analogously, using the framework of infinity categories and higher algebra, Francis showed that the infinity category of $R$-modules is the stabilization of the infinity category of augmented $R$-algebras. In this work we show a dual result for coalgebras over a cooperad $Q$: namely that given a coalgebra $C$, comodules over $C$ are the costabilization of coalgebras over $C$, which is the universal stable category with a finite colimit preserving functor to coalgebras over $C$.

Rigidification of connective comodules

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{k}$ be a commutative ring with global dimension zero. We show that we can rigidify homotopy coherent comodules in connective modules over the Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectrum of $\mathbb{k}$. That is, the $\infty$-category of homotopy coherent comodules is represented by a model category of strict comodules in non-negative chain complexes over $\mathbb{k}$. These comodules are over a coalgebra that is strictly coassociative and simply connected. The rigidification result allows us to derive the notion of cotensor product of comodules and endows the $\infty$-category of comodules with a symmetric monoidal structure via the two-sided cobar resolution.

Abstract:We develop the basic constructions of homological algebra in the (appropriately defined) unbounded derived categories of modules over algebras over coalgebras over noncommutative rings (which we call semialgebras over corings). We define double-sided derived functors SemiTor and SemiExt of the functors of semitensor product and semihomomorphisms, and construct an equivalence between the exotic derived categories of semimodules and semicontramodules. Certain (co)flatness and/or (co)projectivity conditions have to be imposed on the coring and semialgebra to make the module categories abelian (and the cotensor product associative). Besides, for a number of technical reasons we mostly have to assume that the basic ring has a finite homological dimension (no such assumptions about the coring and semialgebra are made). In the final sections we construct model category structures on the categories of complexes of semi(contra)modules, and develop relative nonhomogeneous Koszul duality theory for filtered semialgebras and quasi-differential corings. Our motivating examples come from the semi-infinite cohomology theory. Comparison with the semi-infinite (co)homology of Tate Lie algebras and graded associative algebras is established in appendices, and the semi-infinite homology of a locally compact topological group relative to an open profinite subgroup is defined. An application to the correspondence between complexes of representations of an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra on the complementary central charge levels ($c$ and $26-c$ for the Virasoro) is worked out.

Abstract:Characteristic properties of corings with a grouplike element are analysed. Associated differential graded rings are studied. A correspondence between categories of comodules and flat connections is established. A generalisation of the Cuntz-Quillen theorem relating existence of connections in a module to projectivity of this module is proven.

Abstract:Abstract We investigate the (separated) monomorphism category of a quiver over an Artin algebra . We show that there exists an epivalence (called representation equivalence in the terminology of Auslander) from to , where is the category of finitely generated ‐modules and and denote the respective injectively stable categories. Furthermore, if has at least one arrow, then we show that this is an equivalence if and only if is hereditary. In general, the epivalence induces a bijection between indecomposable objects in and noninjective indecomposable objects in , and we show that the generalized Mimo‐construction, an explicit minimal right approximation into , gives an inverse to this bijection. We apply these results to describe the indecomposables in the monomorphism category of radical square zero Nakayama algebras, and to give a bijection between the indecomposables in the monomorphism category of two artinian uniserial rings of Loewy length 3 with the same residue field. The main tool to prove these results is the language of a free monad of an exact endofunctor on an arbitrary abelian category. This allows us to avoid the technical combinatorics arising from quiver representations. The setup also specializes to more general settings, such as representations of modulations. In particular, we obtain new results on the singularity category of the algebras that were introduced by Geiss, Leclerc, and Schröer in order to extend their results relating cluster algebras and Lusztig's semicanonical basis to symmetrizable Cartan matrices. We also recover results on the algebras that were introduced by Lu and Wang to realize groups via semiderived Hall algebras.

Abstract:The Jacobson-Bourbaki Theorem for division rings was formulated in terms of corings by Sweedler in 1975. Finiteness conditions hypotheses are not required in this new approach. In this paper we extend Sweedler's result to simple artinian rings using a particular class of corings, comatrix corings. A Jacobson-Bourbaki like correspondence for simple artinian rings is then obtained by duality.

A monoidal Dold-Kan correspondence for comodules

Abstract:We provide examples of inductive fibrant replacements in fibrantly generated model categories constructed as Postnikov towers. These provide new types of arguments to compute homotopy limits in model categories. We provide examples for simplicial and differential graded comodules. Our main application is to show that simplicial comodules and connective differential graded comodules are Quillen equivalent and their derived cotensor products correspond. We deduce that the rational $A$-theory of a simply connected space $X$ is equivalent to the $K$-theory of perfect chain complexes with a $C_*(X; \mathbb{Q})$-comodule structure.

Abstract:We notice the connection between almost Cohen-Macaulay rings and the Cohen-Macaulay defect. We introduce a Serre-type condition for modules, that is connected to the Cohen-Macaulay defect in the same way that the condition $(S_n)$ is connected to Cohen-Macaulay modules.

Abstract:We study module like objects over categorical quotients of algebras by the action of coalgebras with several objects. These take the form of ``entwined comodules'' and ``entwined contramodules'' over a triple $(\mathscr C,A,\psi)$, where $A$ is an algebra, $\mathscr C$ is a coalgebra with several objects and $\psi$ is a collection of maps that ``entwines'' $\mathscr C$ with $A$. Our objective is to prove Frobenius, separability and Maschke type theorems for functors between categories of entwined comodules and entwined contramodules.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ an arbitrary $R$-module and $N$ a finite $R$-module. We prove that \cite[Theorem 2.1]{Mel} and \cite[Proposition 3.3 (i)$\Leftrightarrow$(ii)]{B1} are true for any Serre subcategory of $R$-modules. We also prove a characterization theorem for $\lc_{\fa}^{i}(M)$ and $\lc_{\fa}^{i}(N,M)$ to be $\fa$-cofinite for all $i$, whenever one of the following cases holds: (a) $\ara (\fa)\leq 1$, (b) $\dim R/\fa \leq 1$ or (c) $\dim R\leq 2$. In the end we study Artinianness and Artinian $\fa$-cofiniteness of local cohomology modules.

Abstract:We study rings whose modules and module homomorphisms display behavior similar to that of sets and their maps. For example, whenever there is an epimorphism A→B , there is a monomorphism B→A (Artinian principal ideal rings (PIR) satisfy this property and its dual for all modules). As a byproduct of this framework, we prove that a ring every factor ring of which cogenerates its cyclic right modules (one-sided version of Kaplansky's dual rings) is right Artinian and right serial. Consequently, R is an Artinian PIR if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its finitely generated right modules. These results can be viewed as partial answers to the CF problem, the FGF problem due to Faith and a question of Faith and Menal on strongly Johns rings. Some known results and the above one yield the following: A ring R is a direct sum of right Artinian right chain rings and Artinian PIR's if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its (uniform) cyclic right modules (with nonzero socle); so, such rings coincide with the right CES-rings of Jain and Lopez-Pérmouth, rings whose factors are right CF and rings that satisfy the above mentioned property for their cyclic right modules A and B . Finally, a ring is either simple Artinian or a right Artinian right chain ring if and only if one of any two cyclic right modules embeds in the other.
