Abstract:In the context of holomorphic forms on tube domains, singular automorphic forms were studied by Maass [Maa], Freitag [Fre], and Resnikoff [Res], among others. A holomorphic form is singular if it is annihilated by certain differential operator(s). It is known that this is the case if and only if all its “nondegenerate” Fourier coefficients vanish, and if and only if it has one of the “singular weights”. The equivalence of these properties are far from trivial, and they constitute some of the basic results in the theory.

Abstract:Given a finite group G, a central subgroup H of G, and an operator space X equipped with an action of H by complete isometries, we construct an operator space $X_G$ equipped with an action of G which is unique under a `reasonable' condition. This generalizes the operator space complexification $X_c$ of $X$. As a linear space $X_G$ is the space obtained from inducing the representation of H to G (in the sense of Frobenius).

Abstract:We investigate possible quantifications of strictly singular operators, $l_{p}$-strictly singular operators, $c_{0}$-strictly singular operators, strictly cosingular operators, $l_{p}$-strictly cosingular operators. We prove quantitative, even strengthening versions of well-known results about relationships of these five classes of operators and compact, weakly compact, unconditionally converging operators.

Abstract:We construct non-exact operator spaces satisfying the Weak Expectation Property (WEP) and the Operator space version of the Local Lifting Property (OLLP). These examples should be compared with the example we recently gave of a $C^*$-algebra with WEP and LLP. The construction produces several new analogues among operator spaces of the Gurarii space, extending Oikhberg's previous work. Each of our "Gurarii operator spaces" is associated to a class of finite dimensional operator spaces (with suitable properties). In each case we show the space exists and is unique up to completely isometric isomorphism.

Abstract:For any complex reductive group $G$ and any compact Riemann surface with genus $g>1$, we show that every connected component of the associated character variety has symplectic singularities, and has terminal singularities unless $g=2$ and the Dynkin diagram of $G$ contains an $A_1$-component. We also show that the identity component is $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial. The singularities caused by irreducible local systems with automorphism groups larger than the centre of $G$ are controlled by elliptic endoscopy.

Abstract:This article sets forth results on the existence, non-existence, uniqueness, and regularities properties, as well as boundary behavior of solutions for singular systems involving mixed local and non-local elliptic operators (see System (S) below). More precisely, we first establish a new weak comparison principle for a singular equation. Afterward, we discuss the non-existence of positive classical solutions, as well as construct suitable ordered pairs of sub-solutions and super-solutions. This allows us to obtain the existence of a pair of positive weak solutions for System (S) by employing Schauder's fixed-point theorem in the associated conical shell. Finally, we adapt a method of Krasnoselsky to establish the uniqueness of such a positive pair of solutions.

Abstract:If $A$, $B$, $C$ are subsets in a finite simple group of Lie type $G$ at least two of which are normal with $|A||B||C|$ relatively large, then we establish a stronger conclusion than $ABC = G$. This is related to a theorem of Gowers and is a generalization of a theorem of Larsen, Shalev, Tiep and the second author and Pyber.

Abstract:We construct a compact, simply connected manifold with holonomy $\mathrm{G}_2$ that is non-formal. We use the construction method of compact torsion-free $\mathrm{G}_2$ manifolds developed by D.D. Joyce and S. Karigiannis. A non-vanishing triple Massey product is obtained by arranging the singular locus in a particular configuration.

Abstract:To a conformal map $f$ from the disk $\mathbb{D}$ into the complex plane onto a domain with rectifiable Ahlfors-regular boundary, we associate a new kind of Grunsky operator on the Hardy space of the unit disk. This is analogous to the classical Grunsky operator, which itself can be viewed as an operator on Bergman or Dirichlet space. We show that the pull-back of the Smirnov space of the complement of $f(\mathbb{D})$ by $f$ is the graph of the Grunsky operator. We also characterize those domains with rectifiable Ahlfors-regular boundaries such that the Grunsky operator is Hilbert-Schmidt. In particular, we show that if the Grunsky operator is Hilbert-Schmidt, then $f(\mathbb{D})$ is a Weil-Petersson quasidisk. The formulations of the results and proofs make essential use of a geometric treatment of Smirnov space as a space of half-order differentials.

Abstract:A conjecture of Hirose, Watanabe, and Yoshida offers a characterization of when a standard graded strongly $F$-regular ring is Gorenstein, in terms of an $F$-pure threshold. We prove this conjecture under the additional hypothesis that the anti-canonical cover of the ring is Noetherian. Moreover, under this hypothesis on the anti-canonical cover, we give a similar criterion for when a normal $F$-pure (resp. log canonical) singularity is quasi-Gorenstein, in terms of an $F$-pure (resp. log canonical) threshold.

Abstract:We prove that the Gromov hyperbolic groups obtained by the strict hyperbolization procedure of Charney and Davis are virtually compact special, hence linear and residually finite. Our strategy consists in constructing an action of a hyperbolized group on a certain dual CAT(0) cubical complex. As a result, all the common applications of strict hyperbolization are shown to provide manifolds with virtually compact special fundamental group. In particular, we obtain examples of closed negatively curved Riemannian manifolds whose fundamental groups are linear and virtually algebraically fiber.

Abstract:A bounded linear operator $U$ between Banach spaces is universal for the complement of some operator ideal $\mathfrak{J}$ if it is a member of the complement and it factors through every element of the complement of $\mathfrak{J}$. In the first part of this paper, we produce new universal operators for the complements of several ideals and give examples of ideals whose complements do not admit such operators. In the second part of the paper, we use Descriptive Set Theory to study operator ideals. After restricting attention to operators between separable Banach spaces, we call an operator ideal $\mathfrak{J}$ generic if anytime an operator $A$ has the property that every operator in $\mathfrak{J}$ factors through a restriction of $A$, then every operator between separable Banach spaces factors through a restriction of $A$. We prove that many of classical operator ideals are generic (i.e. strictly singular, weakly compact, Banach-Saks) and give a sufficient condition, based on the complexity of the ideal, for when the complement does not admit a universal operator. Another result is a new proof of a theorem of M. Girardi and W.B. Johnson which states that there is no universal operator for the complement of the ideal of completely continuous operators.
