Abstract:A fairly elementary introduction to supersymmetric field theories in general and the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) in particular is given. Topics covered include the cancellation of quadratic divergencies, the construction of the supersymmetric Lagrangian using superfields, the field content of the MSSM, electroweak symmetry breaking in the MSSM, mixing between different superparticles (current eigenstates) to produce mass eigenstates, and the embedding of the MSSM in so--called minimal supergravity.

Abstract:During the last few years, a new approach to language processing has started to emerge, which has become known under various labels such as "data-oriented parsing", "corpus-based interpretation", and "tree-bank grammar" (cf. van den Berg et al. 1994; Bod 1992-96; Bod et al. 1996a/b; Bonnema 1996; Charniak 1996a/b; Goodman 1996; Kaplan 1996; Rajman 1995a/b; Scha 1990-92; Sekine & Grishman 1995; Sima'an et al. 1994; Sima'an 1995-96; Tugwell 1995). This approach, which we will call "data-oriented processing" or "DOP", embodies the assumption that human language perception and production works with representations of concrete past language experiences, rather than with abstract linguistic rules. The models that instantiate this approach therefore maintain large corpora of linguistic representations of previously occurring utterances. When processing a new input utterance, analyses of this utterance are constructed by combining fragments from the corpus; the occurrence-frequencies of the fragments are used to estimate which analysis is the most probable one. In this paper we give an in-depth discussion of a data-oriented processing model which employs a corpus of labelled phrase-structure trees. Then we review some other models that instantiate the DOP approach. Many of these models also employ labelled phrase-structure trees, but use different criteria for extracting fragments from the corpus or employ different disambiguation strategies (Bod 1996b; Charniak 1996a/b; Goodman 1996; Rajman 1995a/b; Sekine & Grishman 1995; Sima'an 1995-96); other models use richer formalisms for their corpus annotations (van den Berg et al. 1994; Bod et al., 1996a/b; Bonnema 1996; Kaplan 1996; Tugwell 1995).

Abstract:These are expanded notes for a short series of lectures, presented at the University of Luxembourg in 2017, giving an introduction to some of the ideas of supersymmetry and supergeometry. In particular, we start from some motivating facts in physics, pass to the theory of supermanifolds, then to spinors, ending up at super-Minkowski space-times. We examine some salient mathematical issues with understanding supersymmetry in a classical setting and make no attempt to discuss phenomenologically interesting models. Moreover, the presentation is "light" in the sense that nothing is carefully proved. The audience of the seminars ranged from Ph.D. students to more experienced postdocs in mathematics. The audience was assumed to have a working knowledge of differential geometry, elementary category theory, and basic ideas from classical & quantum mechanics. No knowledge of supersymmetry and supergeometry is assumed.

Abstract:In this paper, we study supersymmetry in quantum mechanics using the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), or in other words, generalized supersymmetry in quantum mechanics. We construct supersymmetry in the generalized form of the momentum operator, which is derived from GUP. By generalizing the creation and annihilation operators, we can transform the supersymmetry into a generalized state. In the following, we address the challenge of solving the Schrödinger equation for the generalized Hamiltonian. To overcome this difficulty, we employ perturbation theory to establish a relationship between the creation and annihilation operators. By solving this equation analytically and utilizing wave functions and energy levels, we can generate new potentials using the creation and annihilation operators of the wave functions and energy levels for the newer potentials.

Abstract:Loop quantum gravity in its Hamiltonian form relies on a connection formulation of the gravitational phase space with three key properties: 1.) a compact gauge group, 2.) real variables, and 3.) canonical Poisson brackets. In conjunction, these properties allow to construct a well defined kinematical quantization of the holonomy flux-algebra on top of which the remaining constraints can be implemented. While this idea has traditionally been mainly used for Einstein gravity, any gravitational theory with the above properties can be accommodated. In this paper, we are going to review three strands of work building on this observation, namely the study of higher-dimensional loop quantum gravity, supersymmetric extensions of loop quantum gravity, as well as the quantization of modified gravitational theories.

Abstract:We review the subject of spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. First we consider supersymmetry breaking in a semiclassical theory. We illustrate it with several examples, demonstrating different phenomena, including metastable supersymmetry breaking. Then we give a brief review of the dynamics of supersymmetric gauge theories. Finally, we use this dynamics to present various mechanisms for dynamical supersymmetry breaking. These notes are based on lectures given by the authors in 2007, at various schools.

Abstract:The changing rule of super Hamiltonian operators under general superconformal transformations is established by means of investigating behavior of supersymmetric Euler derivatives under the same kind of changes of variables. In the two particular yet frequent cases such as supersymmetric Miura-type transformations and reciprocal transformations, the results are detailed and applied to construct bi-Hamiltonian structures of some supersymmetric evolution equations. As an interesting example, one of supersymmetric Harry Dym equations is shown to be a bi-Hamiltonian system through its reciprocal link to the classical Harry Dym equation.

Abstract:Hamilton's equations with noise and friction possess a hidden supersymmetry, valid for time-independent as well as periodically time-dependent systems. It is used to derive topological properties of critical points and periodic trajectories in an elementary way. From a more practical point of view, the formalism provides new tools to study the reaction paths in systems with separated time scales. A 'reduced current' which contains the relevant part of the phase space probability current is introduced, together with strategies for its computation.

Abstract:Using odd symplectic structure constructed over tangent bundle of the symplectic manifold, we construct the simple supergeneralization of an arbitrary Hamiltonian mechanics on it. In the case, if the initial mechanics defines Killing vector of some Riemannian metric, corresponding supersymmetric mechanics can be reformulated in the terms of even symplectic structure on the supermanifold.

Abstract:These notes are an expanded version of a short course of lectures given for graduate students in particle physics at Oxford. The level was intended to be appropriate for students in both experimental and theoretical particle <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://physics.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> purpose is to present an elementary and self-contained introduction to SUSY that follows on, relatively straightforwardly, from graduate-level courses in relativistic quantum mechanics and introductory quantum field theory. The notation adopted, at least initially, is one widely used in RQM courses, rather than the `spinor calculus' (dotted and undotted indices) notation found in most SUSY sources, though the latter is introduced in optional Asides. There is also a strong preference for a `do-it-yourself' constructive approach, rather than for a top-down formal deductive treatment. The main goal is to provide a practical understanding of how the softly broken MSSM is constructed. Relatively less space is devoted to phenomenology, though simple `classic' results are covered, including gauge unification, the bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, and sparticle mixing. By the end of the course students (readers) should be provided with access to the contemporary phenomenological literature.

Abstract:We construct super Hamiltonian integrable systems within the theory of Supersymmetric Poisson vertex algebras (SUSY PVAs). We provide a powerful tool for the understanding of SUSY PVAs called the super master formula. We attach some Lie superalgebraic data to a generalized SUSY W-algebra and show that it is equipped with two compatible SUSY PVA brackets. We reformulate these brackets in terms of odd differential operators and obtain super bi-Hamiltonian hierarchies after performing a supersymmetric analog of the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction on these operators. As an example, an integrable system is constructed from $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{osp}(2|2)$.

Abstract:We propose a very simple toy model of a $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-supersymmetric quantum system and show, via Klein's construction, how to understand the system as being an $N=2$ supersymmetric system with an extra $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-grading. That is, the commutation/anticommutation rules are defined via the standard boson/fermion rules, but the system still has an underlying $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-grading that needs to be taken into account.
