Abstract:The interpretation of closed fundamental strings as solitons in open string field theory is reviewed. Noncommutativity is introduced to facilitate an explicit construction. The tension is computed exactly and the correct spectrum is recovered at long wave length.

Abstract:In order to provide an estimate of eps'/eps several effective theories and physical effects have to be disentangled. In this talk I discuss how it is possible to predict eps '/eps taking into account all sources of large logs. The numerical result one obtains, $\eps '/\eps \sim (1.7\pm 0.6) \cdot 10^{-4}$, is in good agreement with present measurements.

Abstract:The present status of the ratio $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$ in the Standard Model (SM) is summarized. In particular we stress the differences between three approaches that attempt to calculate $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$ within the SM: Lattice QCD, Dual QCD and Chiral Perturbation Theory. As presently there is still a significant room left for new physics (NP) contributions, we summarize the present status of the technology that has been recently developed with the goal to analyze $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$ and its correlations with other observables within the Weak Effective Theory (WET) and the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We also make a few comments on the interpretation of the main dynamics behind the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule in $K\to\pi\pi$ decays.

Abstract:We present the current status of $\varepsilon_K$ evaluated directly from the standard model using lattice QCD inputs. The lattice QCD inputs include $\hat{B}_K$, $\xi_0$, $\xi_2$, $|V_{us}|$, $m_c(m_c)$, and $|V_{cb}|$. Recently, FLAG has updated $\hat{B}_K$, exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ has been updated with new lattice data in the $\bar{B}\to D\ell\bar{\nu}$ decay mode, and RBC-UKQCD has updated $\xi_0$ and $\xi_2$. We find that the standard model evaluation of $\varepsilon_K$ with exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ (lattice QCD inputs) is $3.2\sigma$ lower than the experimental value, while that with inclusive $|V_{cb}|$ (heavy quark expansion) shows no tension.

Abstract:We review the current status of calculations of the two pion decays of the kaon using the first-principles methods of lattice gauge theory and the significant challenges that these calculations pose. While a calculation with controlled errors at even the 10-20% level has not yet been performed, present results suggest that such a calculation of the real and imaginary parts of the Delta I = 3/2 amplitude should be accomplished within the next two years. The more difficult Delta I = 1/2 amplitude may also be now within reach.

Abstract:We present the Standard Model evaluation of the indirect CP violation parameter $\varepsilon_K$ using inputs determined from lattice QCD together with experiment: $|V_{us}|$, $|V_{cb}|$, $\xi_0$, and $\hat{B}_K$. We use the Wolfenstein parametrization ($|V_{cb}|$, $\lambda$, $\bar{\rho}$, $\bar{\eta}$) for the CKM matrix elements. For the central value, we take the angle-only fit of the UTfit collaboration, and use $|V_{us}|$ from the $K_{\ell 3}$ and $K_{\mu 2}$ decays as an independent input to fix $\lambda$. For the error estimate, we use results of the global unitarity triangle fits from the CKMfitter and UTfit collaborations. We find that the Standard Model (SM) prediction of $\varepsilon_K$ with exclusive $V_{cb}$ (lattice QCD results) is lower than the experimental value by $3.6(2)\sigma$. However, with inclusive $V_{cb}$ (results of the heavy quark expansion), the tension between the SM prediction of $\varepsilon_K$ and its experimental value disappears.
2023 Update of $\varepsilon_K$ with lattice QCD inputs

Abstract:We report recent progress on $\varepsilon_K$ evaluated directly from the standard model (SM) with lattice QCD inputs such as $\hat{B}_K$, $|V_{cb}|$, $|V_{us}|$, $|V_{ud}|$, $\xi_0$, $\xi_2$, $\xi_\text{LD}$, $f_K$, and $m_c$. We find that the standard model with exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ and lattice QCD inputs describes only 66\% of the experimental value of $|\varepsilon_K|$ and does not explain its remaining 34\%, which corresponds to a strong tension in $|\varepsilon_K|$ at the $4.9\sigma \sim 3.9\sigma$ level between the SM theory and experiment. We also find that this tension disappears when we use the inclusive value of $|V_{cb}|$ obtained using the heavy quark expansion based on the QCD sum rule approach.

Abstract:Using a systematic, symmetry-preserving continuum approach to the Standard Model strong-interaction bound-state problem, we deliver parameter-free predictions for all semileptonic B-c -> eta(c), J/psi transition form factors on the complete domains of empirically accessible momentum transfers. Working with branching fractions calculated therefrom, the following values of the ratios for tau over mu final states are obtained: R-eta c = 0.313(22) and R-J/psi = 0.242(47). Combined with other recent results, our analysis confirms a 2 sigma discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction for R-J/psi and the single available experimental result. (C) 2021 The Author(s). Abstract:In this paper, we reexamine the new physics contributions to seven well measured B-->PP decays in the standard model (SM) and the general two-Higgs-doublet model (model III) and compare the theoretical predictions with the new data. Within the considered parameter space we find that (a) the measurements of the branching ratios for B-->pi(+)pi(-), K(-)pi(+), and K(0)pi(+) lead to a strong constraint on the form factor F-0(Bpi)(0): F-0(Bpi)(0)=0.24+/-0.03, and (b) the new physics enhancements to the penguin-dominated B-->Kpi and Keta' decays are significant in size, similar to(40-65)% with respect to the SM predictions, and play an important role in restoring the consistency between the data and theory.
A Model Independent Analysis of LEP and SLD Data on Z-Decays; is the Standard Model Confirmed?

Abstract:A model independent analysis has been performed on the LEP and SLD data on Z decays. Using only very weak theoretical assumptions, the effective vector and axial-vector couplings of leptons, c quarks and b quarks have been extracted. Although the lepton and c quark couplings agree well with Standard Model predictions, those of the b quark show deviations of more than three standard deviations. The effect is mainly in the right-handed b quark coupling, the left-handed coupling being consistent (at the 2$\sigma$ level) with the Standard Model prediction. The probability that the observed deviations of all the measured effective couplings are statistical fluctuations from lepton universality and the Standard Model is estimated to be 0.9%. The estimated probability that the deviations in the leptonic and b quark couplings alone are a fluctuation is 0.18%. A thorough discussion is made of the internal consistency of the different measurements contributing to the average values $A_l$ and $A_b$ used to extract the b quark couplings, as well as possible sources of systematic error that may not, hitherto, have been taken into account. Excluding \tpol~ measurements, which show internal inconsistencies, from the averages increases the deviations of the extracted b quark couplings from the Standard Model predictions to the four standard deviation level.

Abstract:The anomalous magnetic moment of the electron a e measured in a Penning trap occupies a unique position among high precision measurements of physical constants in the sense that it can be compared directly with the theoretical calculation based on the renormalized quantum electrodynamics (QED) to high orders of perturbation expansion in the fine structure constant α , with an effective parameter α / π . Both numerical and analytic evaluations of a e up to ( α / π ) 4 are firmly established. The coefficient of ( α / π ) 5 has been obtained recently by an extensive numerical integration. The contributions of hadronic and weak interactions have also been estimated. The sum of all these terms leads to a e ( theory ) = 1 159 652 181.606 ( 11 ) ( 12 ) ( 229 ) × 10 − 12 , where the first two uncertainties are from the tenth-order QED term and the hadronic term, respectively. The third and largest uncertainty comes from the current best value of the fine-structure constant derived from the cesium recoil measurement: α − 1 ( Cs ) = 137.035 999 046 ( 27 ) . The discrepancy between a e ( theory ) and a e ( ( experiment ) ) is 2.4 σ . Assuming that the standard model is valid so that a e (theory) = a e (experiment) holds, we obtain α − 1 ( a e ) = 137.035 999 1496 ( 13 ) ( 14 ) ( 330 ) , which is nearly as accurate as α − 1 ( Cs ) . The uncertainties are from the tenth-order QED term, hadronic term, and the best measurement of a e , in this order.

Abstract:We review recent theoretical progress in the computation of radiative corrections beyond one loop within the standard model of electroweak interactions, both in the gauge and Higgs sectors. In the gauge sector, we discuss universal corrections of $Ø(G_F^2M_H^2M_W^2)$, $Ø(G_F^2m_t^4)$, $Ø(\alpha_sG_FM_W^2)$, and those due to virtual $t\bar t$ threshold effects, as well as specific corrections to $\Gamma\left(Z\to b\bar b\right)$ of $Ø(G_F^2m_t^4)$, $Ø(\alpha_sG_Fm_t^2)$, and $Ø(\alpha_s^3)$ including finite-$m_b$ effects. We also present an update of the hadronic contributions to $\Delta\alpha$. Theoretical uncertainties, other than those due to the lack of knowledge of $M_H$ and $m_t$, are estimated. In the Higgs sector, we concentrate on $\Gamma\left(H\to f\bar f\,\right)$ and consider in $Ø(\alpha_sG_Fm_t^2)$ the universal corrections and those which are specific for the $\scriptstyle b\bar b$ mode, as well as $Ø(\alpha_s^2)$ corrections in the $q\bar q$ channels including the finite-$m_q$ terms.

Improved Standard-Model prediction for ${K_L\to \ell^+\ell^-}$

Abstract:We present a comprehensive calculation of the $K_L\to\gamma^*\gamma^*$ form factor in dispersion theory, using input from the leptonic decays $K_L\to\ell^+\ell^-\gamma$, $K_L\to \ell_1^+\ell_1^-\ell_2^+\ell_2^-$, the hadronic mode $K_L\to \pi^+\pi^-\gamma$, the normalization $K_L\to\gamma\gamma$, and the matching to asymptotic constraints. As key result we obtain an improved determination of the long-distance contribution to $K_L\to\ell^+\ell^-$, leading to the Standard-Model predictions $\text{Br}[K_L\to\mu^+\mu^-]=7.44^{+0.41}_{-0.34}\times 10^{-9}$, $\text{Br}[K_L\to e^+e^-]=8.46(37)\times 10^{-12}$, and more stringent limits on physics beyond the Standard Model. We provide a detailed breakdown of the current uncertainty, and delineate how future experiments and the interplay with lattice QCD could help further improve the precision.

Abstract:R-D(*) is the ratio of branching ratio (B) over bar -> D-(*) tau(nu) over bar (tau) to (B) over bar -> D((*))l (nu) over bar (l) (l = e, mu). There is a gap of 2 sigma(exp) or more between its experimental value and the prediction under the standard model (SM). People extend the MSSM with the local gauge group U(1)(X) to obtain the U(1)(X)SSM. Compared with MSSM, U(1)(X)SSM has more superfields and effects. In U(1)(X)SSM, we research the semileptonic decays (B) over bar -> D((*))l (nu) over bar (l) and calculate R-D(*). The numerical results of R-D(*) are further corrected under U(1)(X)SSM, which are much better than the SM predictions. After correction, the theoretical value of R-D(*) can reach one sigma(exp) range of the averaged experiment central value.
