Abstract:Experimental and theoretical progress concerning the rare decay pi0 to e+e- is briefly reviewed. It includes the latest data from KTeV and a new model independent estimate of the decay branching which show the deviation between experiment and theory at the level of 3.3\sigma.

Abstract:The KTeV/E799 experiment at Fermilab has searched for the rare kaon decay K(L)-->pi(0)e(+)e(-). This mode is expected to have a significant CP violating component. The measurement of its branching ratio could support the standard model or could indicate the existence of new physics. This Letter reports new results from the 1999-2000 data set. One event is observed with an expected background at 0.99+/-0.35 events. We set a limit on the branching ratio of 3.5x10(-10) at the 90% confidence level. Combining with the previous result based on the data set taken in 1997 yields the final KTeV result: BR(K(L)-->pi(0)e(+)e(-))<2.8x10(-10) at 90% C.L.

Abstract:This work aims to review several aspects of the current status of the rare $\pi^0\to e^+e^-$ decay. A particular emphasis is made on radiative corrections and detailed interpretation of related quantities, some numbers appearing in the literature are updated, and the connection with the Dalitz decay, $\pi^0\to e^+e^-\gamma$, is discussed. This comes timely as it is aligned with an announcement of a preliminary result of a new branching-ratio measurement done by the NA62 Collaboration, which brings new light into an earlier-reported discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the (until-recently latest) precise KTeV result.

Abstract:Using a large acceptance calorimeter and a stopped pion beam we have made a precise measurement of the rare Pi+ -> Pi0 e+ Nu,(pi_beta) decay branching ratio. We have evaluated the branching ratio by normalizing the number of observed pi_beta decays to the number of observed Pi+ -> e+ Nu, (pi_{e2}) decays. We find the value of Gamma(Pi+ -> Pi0 e+ Nu)/Gamma(total) = [1.036 +/- 0.004(stat.) +/- 0.004(syst.) +/- 0.003(pi_{e2})] x 10^{-8}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is the pi_{e2} branching ratio uncertainty. Our result agrees well with the Standard Model prediction.

Electron-electron relaxation in two-dimensional impure superconductors

Abstract:The electron-electron relaxation in impure two-dimensional superconductors is studied. All channels of the electron-electron interaction classified in the Nambu representation are taken into account. It is shown that the recombination relaxation rate originates from quasipartical processes associated with fluctuations of the electron density and the phase of the order parameter. At low temperatures the recombination relaxation rate has a double exponential temperature dependence. The scattering relaxation rate at low temperatures has a power law temperature dependence due to contributions from gapless collective excitations, the phase modes. Two-layer superconductor-normal metal system is also considered. It is shown that the recombination relaxation rate in the superconducting layer has a single exponential factor at low temperatures in comparison with a one layer superconducting system. This increase in the recombination relaxation rate originates from the inter-layer Coulomb interaction and may be used in constructing of superconducting radiation detectors.

Abstract:In this paper, we reexamine the new physics contributions to seven well measured B-->PP decays in the standard model (SM) and the general two-Higgs-doublet model (model III) and compare the theoretical predictions with the new data. Within the considered parameter space we find that (a) the measurements of the branching ratios for B-->pi(+)pi(-), K(-)pi(+), and K(0)pi(+) lead to a strong constraint on the form factor F-0(Bpi)(0): F-0(Bpi)(0)=0.24+/-0.03, and (b) the new physics enhancements to the penguin-dominated B-->Kpi and Keta' decays are significant in size, similar to(40-65)% with respect to the SM predictions, and play an important role in restoring the consistency between the data and theory.

Abstract:Rare flavour changing neutral current decays are sensitive indirect probes for new effects beyond the Standard Model (SM). In the SM, these decays are forbidden at tree level and are therefore loop-suppressed. In SM extensions, new, heavy particles can significantly contribute and affect both their branching fractions as well as their angular distributions. The rare decay $B^0\to K^{*0}(\to K^+\pi^-)\mu^+\mu^-$ is of particular interest, since it gives access to many angular observables, allowing to model-independently test the operator structure of the decay. A previous analysis of the angular distributions of the final state particles showed interesting tensions with SM predictions using the data sample taken by the LHCb detector during 2011. These proceedings will summarize latest results on rare decays from the LHCb experiment with emphasis on the angular analysis of the decay $B^0\to K^{*0}\mu^+\mu^-$, using the full Run I data sample of the LHCb experiment.

Abstract:Experiment E949 at Brookhaven National Laboratory has observed three new events consistent with the decay ${K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}}$ in the pion momentum region $140l{P}_{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}l199\\text{ }\\text{ }\\mathrm{MeV}/c$ in an exposure of $1.71\\ifmmode\\times\\else\\texttimes\\fi{}{10}^{12}$ stopped kaons with an estimated total background of $0.93\\ifmmode\\pm\\else\\textpm\\fi{}0.17(\\mathrm{stat}{)}_{\\ensuremath{-}0.24}^{+0.32}(\\mathrm{syst})$ events. This brings the total number of observed ${K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}}$ events to seven. Combining this observation with previous results, assuming the pion spectrum predicted by the standard model, results in a branching ratio of $\\mathcal{B}({K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}})=({1.73}_{\\ensuremath{-}1.05}^{+1.15})\\ifmmode\\times\\else\\texttimes\\fi{}{10}^{\\ensuremath{-}10}$. Abstract:Using 1.8 million DDbar pairs and a neutrino reconstruction technique, we have studied the decays D^0 -> K^- e^+ nu_e, D^0 -> pi^- e^+ nu_e, D^+ -> Kbar^0 e^+ nu_e, and D^+ -> pi^0 e^+ nu_e. We find B(D^0 -> pi^- e^+ nu_e) = 0.299(11)(9)%, B(D^+ -> pi^0 e^+ nu_e) = 0.373(22)(13)%, B(D^0 -> K^- e^+ nu_e) = 3.56(3)(9)%, and B(D^+ -> Kbar^0 e^+ nu_e) = 8.53(13)(23)%. In addition, form factors are studied through fits to the partial branching fractions obtained in five q^2 ranges. By combining our results with recent unquenched lattice calculations, we obtain |Vcd| = 0.217(9)(4)(23) and |Vcs| = 1.015(10)(11)(106).

Abstract:In a search for the decay K(L)0 --> e+e-, no candidates have been observed. We determine the sensitivity from the detected number of CP-violating K(L)0 --> pi+pi- decays and place a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching ratio of B(K(L)0 --> e+e-, \M(K) - M(ee)\; < 6 MeV/c2) less-than-or-equal-to 4.1 x 10(-11). This result is a significant improvement over previous measurements, although still above the standard model prediction of 3 x 10(-12).

Abstract:We review the recent measurements of the rare pion decays: Pi+ -> Pi0 e+ Nu [pion beta, Pi_(e3), or Pi_beta decay], radiative decay Pi+ -> e+ Nu Gamma [Pi_(e2Gamma) or RPD], and Pi+ -> e+ Nu [Pi_(e2)] decay, as well as the radiative muon decay, Mu -> e Nu Nu-bar Gamma, their theoretical implications, and prospects for further improvement.

Improved measurement of the decays and search for the rare decay

Abstract:Using a sample of 10 billion J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays η′→π+π−π+π− , η′→π+π−π0π0 and η′→4π0 are studied via the process J/ψ→γη′ . The branching fractions of η′→π+π−π+π− and η′→π+π−π0 π0 are measured to be (8.56±0.25(stat)±0.23(syst))×10−5 and (2.12±0.12(stat)±0.10(syst))×10−4 , respectively, which are consistent with previous measurements but with improved precision. No significant η′→4π0 signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction of this decay is determined to be less than 1.24×10−5 at the 90% confidence level. In addition, an amplitude analysis of η′→π+π−π+π− is performed to extract the doubly virtual isovector form factor α for the first time. Abstract:The rare decays of a kaon into a pion and a lepton/antilepton pair proceed via a flavour changing neutral current and therefore first arise in the Standard Model only as a second order electroweak interaction. This natural suppression makes these decays sensitive to the effects of potential New Physics. However the rare decay channels $K^+\to\pi^+\ell^+\ell^-$ are dominated by long-distance contributions, where the two electroweak processes are separated by distances over which non-perturbative QCD effects play a significant role. In this talk I provide an update on the progress of our exploratory calculations of the long-distance contributions to $K^+\to\pi^+\ell^+\ell^-$ amplitudes, which make use of the Domain Wall Fermion ensembles of the RBC and UKQCD collaborations, and outline the prospects for further progress of the calculation.

Abstract:We present model independent measurements of the helicity basis form factors in the decay D+-> K-pi(+)e(+)nu(e) obtained from about 2 800 decays reconstructed from a 281 pb(-1) data sample collected at the psi(3770) center-of-mass energy with the CLEO-c detector. We confirm the existence of a previously observed spin-zero K-pi(+) component interfering with the (K) over bar (*0) amplitude. We see no evidence for additional d- or f-wave contributions.

Abstract:Combining the up-to-date experimental information on B -> pi K, pi K* and rho K decays, we revisit the decay rates and CP asymmetries of these decays within the framework of QCD factorization. Using an infrared finite gluon propagator of Cornwall prescription, we find that the time-like annihilation amplitude could contribute a large strong phase, while the space-like hard spectator scattering amplitude is real. Numerically, we find that all the branching ratios and most of the direct CP violations, except A(CP)(B-+/- -> K-+/-pi(0)), agree with the current experimental data with an effective gluon mass m(g) similar or equal to 0.5 GeV. Taking the unmatched difference in direct CP violations between B -> pi(0) K-+/- and pi K--/+(+/-) decays as a hint of new physics, we perform a model-independent analysis of new physics contributions with a set of (s) over bar (1 + gamma(5))b circle times (q) over bar (1 + gamma(5))q (q=u,d) operators. Detail analyses of the relative impacts of the operators are presented in five cases. Fitting the twelve decay modes, parameter spaces are found generally with nontrivial weak phases. Our results may indicate that both strong phase from annihilation amplitude and new weak phase from new physics are needed to resolve the pi K puzzle. To further test the new physics hypothesis, the mixing-induced CP violations in B -> pi K-0(s) and rho K-0(s) are discussed and good agreements with the recent experimental data are found.

Abstract:We present a measurement of the branching fraction for the doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+ to K+ pi0, using 281 pb-1 of data accumulated with the CLEO-c detector on the psi(3770) resonance. We find B(D+ to K+ pi0) = (2.28 +- 0.36 +- 0.15 +- 0.08) times 10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the last error is due to the uncertainty in the reference mode branching fraction.

Abstract:Using psi(2S)-->pi;{+}pi;{-}J/psi, J/psi-->gammaeta;{'} events acquired with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR e;{+}e;{-} collider, we make the first observations of the decays eta;{'}-->pi;{+}pi;{-}pi;{0} and eta;{'}-->pi;{+}pi;{-}e;{+}e;{-}, measuring absolute branching fractions (37_{-9};{+11}+/-4)x10;{-4} and (25_{-9};{+12}+/-5)x10;{-4}, respectively. For eta;{'}-->pi;{+}pi;{-}pi;{0}, this result probes the mechanism of isospin violation and the roles of pi;{0}/eta/eta;{'}-mixing and final state rescattering in strong decays. We also set upper limits on branching fractions for eta;{'} decays to pi;{+}pi;{-}micro;{+}micro;{-}, 2(pi;{+}pi;{-}), pi;{+}pi;{-}2pi;{0}, 2(pi;{+}pi;{-})pi;{0}, 3(pi;{+}pi;{-}), and invisible final states.

Abstract:The importance of rare $K$ decays especially in the context of a kaon unitarity triangle (KUT) is emphasized. The decay $K_L \to \pi^0 \nu \bar \nu$ is theoretically very clean but experimentally extremely challenging. The Standard Model prediction $\mathcal{B}\sim 3 \times 10^{-11}$ is still about two orders of magnitude away from the current experimental upper bound. One way to continue to make progress towards the construction of a KUT is by improving the accuracy in the calculation of $\varepsilon'$. Another way which is the primary focus here is via studies of $K^0 \to \pi^0 \mu^+ \mu^-$. LHCb, J-PARC, the proposed HIKE project, phenomenology, and in fact precision studies on the lattice can all play a very important role in this context.
