Abstract:Objectives: Our study is to examine the association of ambient temperature and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) after adjusting indoor temperature. Methods: we enrolled 29,511 participants living in 13 provinces throughout China during 2012 to 2015. Methods: A stratified multistage random sampling method was used to select representative samples. A standardized questionnaire was developed to collect demographic and other factors. Meteorological information was collected from China Meteorological Administration and Ministry of Environment Protection of China. Linear regression models was used to estimate the renal function change associated ambient temperature. Results: While adjusting for individual characteristics, socioeconomic conditions, indoor temperature, air pollutants and relative humidity, eGFR decreased with the elevation of short-term exposure to ambient temperature.Blood pressure modified the relationship between eGFR and ambient temperature (P < 0.05). In Stage3 hypertensives, daily average temperature showed stronger inverse association with eGFR than stage2 hypertensives (&bgr;: − 3.246842 vs. − 0.718104).For stage3 hypertensives, every daily and monthly temterature increased by quantile had a greather decrease of eGFR than seanal average change (&bgr; =  − 3.246842, − 3.452647, − 1.773068,respectively). Conclusion: Blood pressure modifies the association between higher temperature and renal function impairment. Short-term exposure to temperature had a strongher relationship with blood pressure than long-term exposure.
