Abstract:Simple and practical strategies for visible-light-induced C-H alkylation of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones with cyclobutanone oxime esters and hydroxamic acid derivatives have been developed under mild and redox-neutral conditions. These two reactions can be carried out at room temperature and obtain a variety of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives with cyano and amide groups. Moreover, the cyanoalkylation reaction of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones can proceed smoothly in the absence of photocatalysts.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical cyclization reaction of o-vinylaryl isocyanides and oxime esters to access various 2,4-disubstituted quinolines was disclosed. Oxime esters were employed as acyl radical precursors via the carbon−carbon bond cleavage. It provided an effective way for the synthesis of 2-acyl-4-arlysubstituted quinolines under mild conditions and exhibited good functional group tolerance and substrate applicability.

Abstract:Substituted chromeno[4,3-b]quinolines and [1,6]naphthyridines were achieved by tandem intramolecular aza-Diels-Alder reaction using a strategy of combination of visible-light photoredox and Lewis-acid-catalysis. This intramolecular aza-Diels-Alder cycloaddition took place between the insitu generated benzylidene anilines derived from arylamines and salicylaldehyde or 2-aminoaryl aldehydes bearing a tethered alkene partner, followed by oxidative aromatization to give the target products. The study on the oxidative aromatization step revealed that it is much faster than the cyclization step; both the combination of imine and Lewis acid, and the combination of photocatalyst and Lewis acid under aerobic condition with the irradiation of visible light are efficient to achieve the transformation. This method provided a new access to the synthesis of important heterocycles under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:Herein, we report a photocatalytic method for the synthesis of 2‐quinolones under mild conditions by employing α‐diazo acetamide as substrates. The use of Eosin Y as a photocatalyst allows an economical and environmentally benign synthetic method. The process involves the generation of radicals from diazo compounds promoted by a visible‐light‐induced proton‐coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism. The method demonstrates a broad substrate scope to provide various aryl‐ and alkyl‐substituted 2‐quinolones. To support the proposed mechanism, a series of mechanistic experiments were conducted.

Abstract:The photoredox chemistry has been proposed to rely on the ability of photoexcited catalysts to engage in single-electron-transfer with organic molecules, and energy transfer, the fundamental decay pathway of photoexcited states, is also a catalytic mode for the photoredox chemistry. Although the triplet-triplet energy transfer process is considered to be a powerful activation mechanism in organic photochemistry, it has not been widely applied in organic transformations. Here, we demonstrate a novel visible light photocatalysis by such an activation method: the energy transfer from photoexcited Ir-center dot(ppy)(3) produces excited-state 1,2,3-benzotriazinones for the synthesis of quinazolinone derivatives. This method offers a mild and operationally simple access to diverse quinazolinone derivatives with a broad substrate scope. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A direct alkoxycarbonylation/cyclization reaction is accomplished under visible light-induced photoredox catalysis. With this approach, a variety of ester-substituted indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines are prepared in good to excellent yields. It is worth noting that this method not only can afford the synthesis of indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines but also can provide an alternative route for generating complex target structures bearing carboxylic esters.

Abstract:An environmental benign protocol of visible-light-induced reaction has been developed. The methodology allows effective synthesis of 4(3H)-quinazolinones from 2-benzylaminobenzamides in simple and mild reaction conditions. Just irradiation with a blue LED light at room temperature, the reaction proceeds well to provide the corresponding quinazolinones in good to high yields under metal-free, photocatalyst-free and mediator-free conditions. This protocol is demonstrated by its wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, operationally simple, and gram-scale reaction. Mechanism studies suggest that a radical pathway might be involved in current reaction.

Abstract:A novel strategy involving visible-light-induced functionalization of alkenes for the synthesis of substituted aziridines was developed. The readily prepared N-protected 1-aminopyridinium salts were used for the generation of N-centered radicals. This approach allowed the synthesis of aziridines bearing various functional groups with excellent diastereoselectivity under mild conditions. Moreover, this protocol was successfully applied to prepare structurally diverse nitrogen-containing frameworks.

Abstract:Herein a metal-free approach for the synthesis of isoquinolone derivatives by means of photoinitiated deaminative [4+2] annulation of alkynes and N-amidepyridinium salts is described. This protocol exhibits a broad scope and good functional group tolerance and regioselectivity under benign reaction conditions. Preliminary studies suggest that the critical amide radical is derived from the photocatalytic cleavage of the N-N bond of the N-amidepyridinium salt, which adds to the triple bond of the alkyne and undergoes the annulation process to afford the desired isoquinolones.

Abstract:An efficient method for the construction of fluorinated benzo[a]quinolizidines from alpha-trifluoromethyl alkenes and dihydroisoquinoline acetic acids using visible light photocatalysis was developed. The reaction was accomplished through a decarboxylative/defluorinative cross-coupling, followed by an intramolecular defluorinative C-H functionalization in one-pot. Diversified fluorinated benzo[a]quinolizidines, which are less accessible by other methods, were obtained in good yields with high diastereoselectivity.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical cascade cyclization of 2-aryl- N -acryloyl indoles with 2‐mercaptothiazolinium salts is reported, furnishing the corresponding indolo[2,1- α ]isoquinoline derivatives in good to moderate yields. A series of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl bromides were converted conveniently into redox-active thiazolinium salts, which are subsequently transformed into alkyl radicals through interaction with an excited-state photocatalyst. This green and environmentally protocol features broad substrate scope under mild conditions.

Abstract:A practical approach for the synthesis of tetracyclic pyrroloquinazolines using photoredox strategy has been developed. The visible-light-promoted intramolecular single-electron-transfer process between photocatalyst and N-(2-iodobenzyl)-N-acylcyana-mides is considered to be involved in this transformation. Targeted pyrroloquinazoline derivatives (15 examples) are presented in good isolated yields (30%-88%).
