Abstract:Drawing upon role identity theory and perspective-taking research, we investigated the relationship between supervisor family identity salience and employee work-family conflict, with supervisor work identity salience as a moderator and perceived supervisor work-family support as a mediator. Using the leader-follower dyadic data, we confirmed the negative indirect effect of supervisor family identity salience on employee work-family conflict through increased perceived supervisor work-family support. Moreover, supervisor work identity salience strengthens the positive effect of supervisor family identity salience on perceived supervisor work-family support. Perceived supervisor work-family support also mediates the interactive effect of supervisor family identity salience and supervisor work identity salience on employee work-family conflict. Implications and future research directions are discussed.

Abstract:Drawing upon the social information processing theory. this study examines the relationship between supervisors' work-family conflict and employees' work-family conflict, taking into account the moderating effect of employees' organizational tenure and the mediating effect of employees' perceptions of workplace climate for family sacrifice. Hierarchical linear modeling analyses reveal that employees' tenure moderates the effect of supervisors' work-family conflict on perceived workplace climate for family sacrifice, which subsequently relates to employees' work-family conflict. Monte Carlo bootstrapping simulation confirms that employees' perceptions of workplace climate for family sacrifice mediate the moderating effect of employees' tenure in the relationship between supervisors' work-family conflict and employees' work-family conflict. Implications and future research directions are discussed.
Work-Family Conflict and Turnover Intention among Chinese Teachers: the Mediating Effects of Organizational Commitment

Abstract:To explore relationships among Work-Family Conflict, Turnover Intentions and Organizational Commitment, 612 teachers from 7 schools had been assessed by Work-Family Conflict Scale, Turnover Intentions Scale and Organizational Commitment Scale. Hierarchical regression analyses indicate that both of the two components of Work-Family Conflict (Work Interference with Family and Family Interference with Work) are powerful negative predictors of Organizational Commitment, and powerful positive predictors of Turnover Intentions. The results of regression also show that Organizational Commitment plays as a mediator between Work-Family Conflict and Turnover Intentions. Specifically, Organizational Commitment partly mediates the relation between Work Interference with Family and Turnover Intentions, while fully mediates the relation between Family Interference with Work and Turnover Intentions.

Abstract:Work support is a key construct which has long been suggested to have important effects on turnover intention. This study developed a research model to test the mediating roles of work-to-family conlict and work-to-family facilitation between work support and turnover intention, using conservation of resources theory and social exchange theory. In a sample of 2828 married employees, SEM analysis showed that work-to-family conflict mediated the relation between the work support and turnover intention. Employees who matain the existing resources dealed with work more freely, transfered little tension to family domain and decreased role conflict which led to lower turnover intention. Furthermore, multiple regression analyses were used to test the impact of three sources of work support on work-to-family conflict. The results showed supervisor support most predict reduced work-to-family conflict than colleague support and organizational policies. According to these findings, organization should pay pay more attention to the patterns of leaders and take more care about decreasing employees's pressure instead of offering facilitation.

Abstract:This study empirically examined the proposition that supervisors' exchange relationships with their own supervisors (i.e., leader leader exchange, or LLX) are related to their subordinates' work-related outcomes through 3 mechanisms: (a) leaders modeling their LLX to develop and maintain their exchange relationships with their subordinates (i.e., leader member exchange, or LMX), (b) motivating the team and its members, captured by team and individual empowerment, and (c) facilitating the relationships between LMX and individual outcomes. Analyses of multisource and lagged data from 104 team supervisors and 577 subordinates showed that LMX mediated the positive relationship of LLX on subordinates' individual empowerment. Furthermore, team empowerment and individual empowerment sequentially mediated the positive relationships between LLX and subordinates' job satisfaction and job performance. The authors also found that the indirect relationships of LMX with job satisfaction and job performance via individual empowerment were stronger when LLX was higher. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract:This study examined the role of job satisfaction, relational identification with supervisor, and work-family conflict in explaining the influence of family-friendly supervision (FFS) on supervisor-rated citizenship behavior and task performance using data from a Chinese pharmaceutical company. Hierarchical regression analysis results revealed that job satisfaction mediated the relationship between FFS and supervisor-rated citizenship behavior, whereas relational identification with supervisor mediated the relationship between FFS and supervisor-rated task performance. We also found that work-family conflict moderates the relationship between FFS and job satisfaction. We discuss implications of these findings for theory and practice.

Abstract:Drawing upon role identity theory and the dual judgment model of perspective-taking, we investigated a model describing the relationship between supervisor family identity salience (SFIS) and supervisor work-family support, with supervisor work identity salience (SWIS) as a moderator and supervisor work-family perspective taking as a mediator. We tested the model using two data sets. Results from supervisor-reported data indicated that SFIS was related to supervisor work-family perspective-taking, which was, in turn, related to supervisor work-family support. Results from leader-follower dyadic data found that SFIS was related to work-family support. In both samples, the effects of SFIS were stronger when SWIS was high. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.

Abstract:<span>While the work-family interference in employees' work experiences and turnover intention has been empirically supported in the previous literature, it remains unexplored in the social work domain in the Chinese context. Based on Conservation of Resources Theory, the current study aims to examine the impact of work-family interference and four specific sources of work support on social workers' perceived job burnout and turnover intention. Using a representative sub-sample (<i>N</i> = 1,414) in a national survey of Chinese social workers, multiple OLS regression analyses with simple slope checks on moderation effects were conducted. The results indicate that work-family interference has a significant and negative impact on both burnout and turnover intention, whereas work support from one's top leader and manager moderated and reversed this impact. The study's findings suggest that Conservation of Resources Theory is well suited to recognize the factors implicated in the burnout and turnover intention of social workers in China. Future research involving family factors will contribute to understand the full mechanism of work-family interference on social workers' work outcomes. Further exploration of possible measures in mitigating burnout and turnover are suggested.</span>

Abstract:Purpose - The current study seeks to examine the link between abusive supervision and subordinate family undermining by focusing on the mediating role of work-to-family conflict and the moderating role of boundary strength at home. Design/methodology/approach - Data were collected using a three-wave survey research design. Participants included 209 employees from a manufacturing company in China. Hierarchical regression analyses and a bootstrapping algorithm were used to test the hypothesized relationships. Findings - The results indicate that abusive supervision is positively related to family undermining, and this relationship is mediated by work-to-family conflict. Moreover, boundary strength at home attenuates the direct relationship of abusive supervision with work-to-family conflict and its indirect relationship with family undermining. Research limitations/implications - This research contributes to the integration of the work-family interface model and the abusive supervision literature by providing evidence of a link between abusive supervision in the workplace and conflict in the home. This study also indicates that abusive supervision is a problem of both organizational and societal importance in China. However, data are correlational in nature, which limits the ability to draw causal inferences. Practical implications - Findings provide evidence that abusive supervision is a source of work-to-family conflict and undermining behavior in the home. Training employees to create boundaries between work and family domains may minimize the negative spillover effects of work on the family. Originality/value - This study provides a relatively comprehensive model regarding the relationships between abusive supervision and work-family consequences, and a promising new direction for both the leadership and work-family literatures.

Abstract:The study employed 360 employees in 14 family firms to discuss how supervisory loyalty affects job satisfaction and turnover intention,especially the mediation process of supervisor-subordinate conflicts and the moderation process of employee's traditionality.Multiple regression analysis results are as follows:supervisory loyalty has a significantly positive impact on job satisfaction and has a significantly negative impact on turnover intention;supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict and task conflict partially mediated supervisory loyalty's influence on job satisfaction and turnover intention;traditionality negatively moderated the relationships between supervisory loyalty and supervisor-subordinate task conflict in such a way that the relationships were stronger for individuals higher than lower in traditionality.

Abstract:This study aims to investigate the association between role conflict and turnover intention, as well as mediating role of emotional exhaustion and moderating effects of job autonomy on turnover intention among social workers in mainland China. Data from the China Social Work Longitudinal Study 2019 ( n = 5,611) is included in the final analyses, and structural equation modeling is adopted to confirm the factor structure. The empirical results indicate that role conflict is positively associated with turnover intention, whereas emotional exhaustion plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between role conflict and turnover intention. In addition, job autonomy plays a negative moderating role in the first half of the path of role conflict on turnover intention. Suggestions and implications for practice are explored. Since social workers are viewed as critical agents of change in the area of social service provision, findings support the need for and occupational environment that promotes job autonomy and prevents burnout. Future studies are suggested to examine how turnover intention is formulated and developed in organizational contexts of social work and other human helping professions and to design relevant interventions and programs for this population.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to answer how family-supportive supervisor behavior (FSSB) reduces work–family conflict (WFC), family–work conflict (FWC) and employee turnover intention. Based on the conservation of resources theory, this study examines the direct and indirect effects of emotional exhaustion between WFC/FWC and turnover intention. Moreover, this study explores FSSB moderated the role relationship between WFC/FWC and emotional exhaustion. Design/methodology/approach This study draws time-lagged data from two phases of a survey of health-care workers working in Chinese hospitals. In the first phase, data on WFC/FWC and turnover were collected from 407 workers. In second round, 387 employees express their feeling about emotional exhaustion and supportive supervisor behavior toward support family members. The data was collected from health-care workers, and a moderated mediation technique was tested using structural equation model-AMOS. Findings The findings of this study show that the positive relation between WFC/FWC and emotional exhaustion is high for employees with lower family-supportive supervisors than those with higher family-supportive supervisors. This finding provides further insight into the mechanism of how family and work conflicts impact turnover intention. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first empirical study based on the conservation of resources theory, the relationship between WFC/FWC and turnover intention, considering the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and the moderating effects of FSSB. This paper proposes that FSSB can reduce WFCs, addressing a significant research gap in the literature.

Abstract:Background: The study's value is based on a complete understanding of the employee polychronicity-employee intention to leave the relationship in the health care sector. Objective: This study examines (1) the role of job engagement in alleviating the relationship between employee polychronicity and intention to leave, and (2) the moderating impact of perceived supervisor support as a relationship. Method: This study employed a cross-cultural research design and collected data from nurses working in public sector hospitals. Through job engagement and perceived supervisor support (PSS), the effect of nurses' polychronicity on turnover intention was examined using the PLS-SEM approach. Results: The findings of this study demonstrate that employee polychronicity has an impact on employee turnover. Employee engagement appears to operate as a mediator in the association between employee polychronicity and intention to leave and a moderating effect of PSS. Conclusion: By emphasizing employee engagement as a mediator and moderating role, the perceived supervisor supports the association between polychronicity and intention to leave of nurses. This study offered a crisp perspective on the complexities of the links between polychronicity, engagement, perceived organizational support, and employees' intention to leave.
Work–family conflict influences the turnover intention of Chinese rural preschool teachers: A moderated mediation model

Abstract:We examined the association between work–family conflict and turnover intention by exploring the mediating effect of job satisfaction and the moderating effect of career calling. Data from 1,346 Chinese rural preschool teachers were processed using correlation analysis and hierarchical linear regression analysis. The results revealed that work–family conflict was significantly and positively associated with rural preschool teachers' turnover intention. Job satisfaction mediated this relationship, while career calling moderated the association between work–family conflict and job satisfaction. These findings contribute to understanding of turnover intention among rural preschool teachers and suggest the need to enhance career calling to promote job satisfaction and reduce turnover in this profession.

Abstract:The present study proposes a moderated mediation model that examines how and when unethical pro-supervisor behavior is related to employees' family satisfaction. The two-wave study design consisted of 207 full-time employees in China. The study results indicate that unethical pro-supervisor behavior is negatively related to family satisfaction, and that workplace ostracism mediates the influence of unethical pro-supervisor behavior on family satisfaction. In addition, the relationship between workplace ostracism and family satisfaction as well as the indirect influence of unethical pro-supervisor behavior on family satisfaction through workplace ostracism, are moderated by employees' work-home segmentation preference. The study findings not only enrich the literature on unethical pro-supervisor behavior, but also have important practical implications for organizational managers.

Abstract:Objective Based on conservation of resource theory and social exchange theory, to explore how work-family conflict can directly and indirectly influence turnover intention, with psychological contract and job satisfaction as a mediator. Methods A total of 505 valid data were collected on primary and secondary school teachers by using work-family conflict questionnaire, turnover intention questionnaire, psychological contract questionnaire and job satisfaction questionnaire from 3 provinces in China. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the discriminant validity and common method bias between the four variables through AOMS, the PROCESS macro for SPSS (Model 4 and Model 6) were applied to examine the mediating effect of psychological contract and job satisfaction. Results Work-family conflict showed a direct and positive influence on turnover intention; psychological contract was shown to play a mediating role between work-family conflict and turnover intention; job satisfaction was shown to play a mediating role between work-family conflict and turnover intention; and psychological contract and job satisfaction was shown to play a serial mediating role between work-family conflict and turnover intention. Conclusion Work-family conflict of primary and secondary school teachers will directly lead to turnover intention. Psychological contract and job satisfaction can reduce the positive influence of work-family conflict on turnover intention. School administrators should help teachers reduce work-family conflict and take effective measures to improve psychological contract and job satisfaction, so as to reduce turnover intention.

Abstract:With the increasing interest in balancing work and life, employees begin to have a strong desire for receiving family-related support from their organizations, especially supervisors. However, as engaging in family support supervisory behaviors (FSSB) is often not required formally by organizations, and supervisors are often expected to achieve a high in-role job performance, supervisors thus suffer from tensions between performing extra-role and in-role behaviors. Drawing from cognitive dissonance theory and work-home resources model, we present an integrative model that examines the costs of exhibiting FSSB under high performance expectations from the organization for supervisors. Utilizing a weekly experience sampling method through which 94 supervisors were surveyed for 6 consecutive weeks, we find that FSSB interacting with high performance expectations from organization to predict negative work reflection. Negative work reflection further spillovers to family domain, interfering with work-family enrichment, and family satisfaction. Moreover, supervisor’ trait family motivation influences the strength of the weekly relationships between work-family enrichment and family satisfaction. We conclude by discussing theoretical and practical implications of our research.

Abstract:Built upon conservation of resource theory and self-determination theory, this study explores boundary conditions under which family-supportive supervisors (FSSs) influence employee-perceived leader–member exchange (LMX) and work–family enrichment (WFE). Findings from this research reveal that FSSs positively relate to employee perceptions of LMX and WFE. Employees’ collectivistic self-construals moderate the effect of FSSs on LMX but not on WFE. Implications and future research directions are discussed.

Abstract:To reveal the mechanism between role stressors and employees' turnover intention, more than 900 employees from seven branches in a hi-tech company in China were surveyed by scales of role stressors, turnover intention perceived organizational support, and organizational commitment.The results show that organizational support moderates relationship between all three role stressors and turnover intention, and organizational commitment partially mediates all three role stressors and turnover intention.However, mediated moderation only exists when individual perceives role conflict.

Abstract:Background: Countries worldwide face the challenge of how medical personnel manage conflicts between work and family. Especially after the challenge of the COVID-19 epidemic, it is necessary to explore the possible mechanisms of work-family conflict, burnout, and turnover intention among primary medical staff. Objectives: This study aims to observe the turnover intention of Chinese primary medical staff and explore the relationship between work-family conflict, burnout, and turnover intention. Methods: A cross-sectional study included a turnover intention questionnaire, the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), and the Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS) to understand turnover intention, burnout, and work-family conflict among primary medical staff in four cities (Xuzhou, Linyi, Huaibei, and Shangqiu cities) within the Huaihai Economic Zone. Spearman correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used to examine the related factors of turnover intention. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to study the mediating role of burnout between work-family conflict and turnover intention. Results: In this study, there is a positive correlation between work-family conflict and turnover intention ( P < 0.01). Demographic characteristics, work-family conflict, and burnout explained 2.3%, 20.3%, and 8.8% of the incremental variances, respectively. Burnout mediated the association between work-family conflict and turnover intention. Conclusions: Burnout can be regarded as a mediator between two different variables: work-family conflict and turnover intention. Improving work-family conflict and alleviating burnout may play a key role in reducing the willingness of primary medical staff to resign. Corresponding measures can be taken to balance the conflict between work and family, alleviate burnout, reduce turnover rates, and build a primary medical staff team with higher medical service quality and stability.
