Abstract:As we all know, in "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", Pu Songling gave a large description about love story. During a long period of time, many researchers and critics analyzed the female images and their view of marriage. There are three crucial stages of researches with many critics speaking highly of the view of marriage from the females in "Strange Stories From a Chinese Studio", especially when it comes to females' bold courtship and free marriage. The third stage of research, that is, since the nineties, however, the questions of the female images in the book started rising among the researchers. And not only that, even Pu Songling's psychology has been taken into consideration. Based on this point of view, I hope to re-analyze the female images in "Strange Stories From a Chinese Studio" with different angels, also with consideration of author's psychology. By starting with the well-known chapters, this paper won't lay one-sided emphasis on "free", "progressive" to analyze the females, but with the expectation that readers can truly realize how hard and miserable the females are at that time.

Abstract:Fortress Besieged is considered as one of the masterpieces in the history of Chinese literature.It intensively and deeply depicts the female characters of that time,reflecting the profound and wide social cultures.Each female character with vivid characteristics is unique.However,most readers with distinct tendency to love and hate including the author will give them "a bad name" when evaluating the heroines in the novel.The paper,closely based on the historical background,analyzes the personalities of four heroines including Miss Bao,Su Wenwan,Tang Xiaofu and Sun Roujia,abstracts their strong consciousness of marriage,and presents a new explanation to their images of "bad reputation".

Abstract:As the starting point of “human relations” and th e basi s of feudal hierarchy, marriage in the Tang Dynasty was usually bound subject to Confucian doctrine about “Yin and Yang and the reverend and the humble”, all the customs of which were dominated by the patriarchal order as criterion. Howev er, the matrimonial customs in the Tang Dynasty were both feudal and conservativ e and realistic and open. This characteristic of theirs stipulated the tradition al principle of “man standardization” to be preserved in the matrimonial customs, and meanwhile a new situation came into being in which such marriages as “t he man married to the woman’s family” and “the husband moved into the wife’s house” began to be accepted. The appearance of such matrimonial customs indica tes the historical fact that women took a considerably high status in the Tang D ynasty.

Abstract:Many scholars have conducted the research on the women's marriageable age of the Han Dynasty.At the same time,they also have shown their concern about one particular kind of marriage in the upper social class,that is,the women waiting for the marriageable age because of the engagement in their childhood,which has been regarded as the convention of child bride in the later ages.This issue is not only the subject of marriage history,but also the subject of minor's life history.Therefore,it is significant to deepen the study on the life history in the Han Dynasty if its relevant cultural situation is explored.

Abstract:Little Women is a classic work of literature that has captivated readers for generations. It tells the story of four sisters who grow up during the Civil War era in America and explores their struggles with poverty, societal expectations, and their own personal desires. While the book is celebrated for its portrayal of strong female characters and their self-awareness, it also highlights the limitations and one-sidedness of women’s consciousness awakening, particularly with regard to the view of marriage. Alcott’s progressive female thoughts are evident, as she portrays women who are determined to carve out their own paths and not be solely defined by their marital status. However, at the same time, there is an underlying sentiment of traditional gender roles and the idealization of marriage, which limits the full expression of a woman’s agency. This dependence on men is further reinforced by the societal norms and beliefs surrounding marriage during that time, such as portraying it as the ultimate goal of a woman’s life.

Abstract:Marriage is the most fundamental social institution in human society. Applying the comparative method, this paper aims at analyzing within the scope of marital and familial aspects of Chinese and Western culture, revealing specifically the underlying causes of the differences demonstrated in traditional Chinese and Western marriage culture. The paper finds that behind the apparent ritual practices, China and the West have different principles and priorities rooted in their ideological distinctions, namely, the differences in ethical foundations as well as family values. Chinese people, under the overwhelming influence of Confucian doctrines, regard parents as the sole authority in marriage, and ancestor worship has become the ultimate goal in the whole process, urging couples to conform to an extended family. In contrast, their western counterparts give priority to religious significance, and marriage is viewed as a divine unity of the two, which can be independent from large family relations thus forming a nuclear family of their own.

Abstract:This paper does a questionnaire survey of attitudes towards marriage and love among 230 female postgraduates in three universities in Hunan Province.The result shows mild but deep changes have taken place in that of contemporary female postgraduates.These changes are the serious attitudes towards love,attaching more importance to inner quality when choosing spouse,concerning about long-term development,passive and implicit way to choose spouse.They pay more attention to marriage foundation,pursuing high-quality marriage life,and hold tolerant and open attitudes towards sex.

Abstract:There were much misunderstanding for a long time in the study on ancient marriage system in China,so this article elaborates on the texts of Sanli,and tries to illustrate the meaning of the ritual orders.The Chinese classical wedding was essentially rooted in human nature,contained in the ceremony to set gender equality and mutual respect,two basic principles,in which the set of courtesies closely everywhere.In another respect,couple united and respecting partents were the two key concepts of Chinese classical wedding which resulted in that the ceremony of becoming a wife and a daughter-in-law for women,the two instrument sections,become the focus of the classical wedding.All of these were based on the human purpose that the marriage would last longer,and the family could be more harmonious.The issues of marriageable age and of wedding day once argued back and forth,and agreed to return the ultimate conclusion for the purpose of human nature all the same.Finally picking out the kernels spiritual and fully developing the human nature of the classical wedding would cultivate and benefit the current marriage custom reform.

Abstract:Abstract In Qin and Han times, the establishment of a complex legal system that applied to every member of the empire brought about an unprecedented transformation of the husband–wife relationship, changing it from a bond largely determined by custom, ritual, and family concerns to one regulated by law. Laws recorded in the Zhangjiashan bamboo legal texts reveal that women's legal status in Qin and Han times was far higher and allowed for greater autonomy than previously imagined. Their increased legal standing may be traced to reduced household size, a policy set to counteract the mounting death toll and social chaos that followed Qin expansion and the transition from Qin to Han rule. I analyze exemplary cases to demonstrate how the small family system in conjunction with a legal order that empowered women as household heads created a new space for widows and wives to exercise their autonomy.
