Abstract: We investigate the propagation of partially coherent beams in spatially nonlocal nonlinear media with a logarithmic type of nonlinearity. We derive analytical formulas for the evolution of the beam parameters and conditions for the formation of nonlocal incoherent solitons.

Abstract:A variable separation approach is used to obtain localized coherent structures in a generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger system. Applying a special Bäcklund transformation and introducing arbitrary functions of the seed solutions, the abundance of the localized structures of this system are derived. By selecting the arbitrary functions appropriately, some special types of localized exitations such as dromions, dromion lattice, peakons, breathers and instantons are constructed.

Abstract:The nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NNLSE) describes the propagation dynamics of optical beams in nonlinear media with a spatial nonlocal response. Based on NNLSE, we obtain the generalized sine hollow solitons and breathers and show that the transverse intensity evolutions of them are always periodical. However, if the incident power takes a critical value, the beam width can remain invariant during the propagation, just like the solitons. Otherwise, the beam width varies periodically, just like the breathers. We investigate the evolution characteristics for both cases analytically and numerically in detail.

Abstract:In analogy to a perturbed harmonic oscillator, we calculate the fundamental and some other higher order soliton solutions of the nonlocal nonlinear Schödinger equation (NNLSE) in the second approximation in the generally nonlocal case. Comparing with numerical simulations we show that soliton solutions in the second approximation can describe the generally nonlocal soliton states of the NNLSE more exactly than that in the zeroth approximation. We show that for the nonlocal case of an exponential-decay type nonlocal response the Gaussian-function-like soliton solutions cannot describe the nonlocal soliton states exactly even in the strongly nonlocal case. The properties of such nonlocal solitons are investigated. In the strongly nonlocal limit, the soliton's power and phase constant are both in inverse proportion to the fourth power of its beam width for the nonlocal case of a Gaussian function type nonlocal response, and are both in inverse proportion to the third power of its beam width for the nonlocal case of an exponential-decay type nonlocal response.

Abstract:The evolution characteristics of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beams in optical nonlinear medium with spatial nonlocality are investigated theoretically in detail. We obtain a series of analytical expressions to describe the evolution characteristics of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beams in nonlocal medium, such as the expressions of the evolutionary propagation, the beam spot size, the statistical wavefront curvature, the critical energy etc. The results show that the statistical spot size of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beam can remain unchanged or change periodically according to different initial incident energy. However, the transverse intensity mode of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beam always presents periodic transformation. This is consistent with high-order temporal solitons, so the evolution of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beams can also be called generalized solitons or breathers. The influences of initial incident energy and cosine parameters on the evolution characteristics of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian beams are analyzed in detail. Through numerical simulation, some typical evolution characteristics are shown graphically.

Abstract:The interaction trajectory of solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media is investigated. A simple differential equation describing the interaction trajectories is derived based on the light ray equation. Numerical calculations are carried out to illustrate the interaction trajectories with different parameters. The results show that the degree of nonlocality greatly affects the interaction of solitons. For a strongly nonlocal case, the interaction trajectory can be described by a cosine function. Analytical expressions describing the trajectory and the oscillation period are obtained. For generally and weakly nonlocal cases, the interaction trajectories still oscillate periodically, however it is no longer sinusoidal and the oscillation period increases with the nonlocal degree decreasing. In addition, the trajectory of two solitons launched with a relative angle at the entrance plane is investigated. It is found that there exists a critical angle. When the initial relative angle is larger than the critical angle, the two solitons do not collide on propagation. The influence of the degree of nonlocality on the critical angle is also discussed.

Abstract:The evolution of cosine-Gauss beams in nonlocal optical medium which can be governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nonlocal nonlinearity is investigated. A set of mathematical analytical expressions describing propagation characteristics are derived, and the numerical simulation results and illustrations of typical propagation characteristics are given. The results show that the cosine-Gauss beam has a variety of light intensity distribution forms at the initial position and changes periodically in the propagation process. There are different propagation characteristics under different initial parameters of cosine-Gauss beams. If the cosine-Gauss beam is incident at the on-waist position, it can form a generalized soliton form, that is, the statistical transverse width of cosine-Gauss beams changes and the optical intensity distribution changes with a period; also, a generalized breathers can be formed, that is, the statistical transverse width and optical intensity distribution change with a period. If the cosine-Gauss beam is incident on the off-waist position, it only exist in the form of generalized breather and cannot form generalized soliton. The physical explanation is given.

Abstract:We address the properties of optical solitons in thermal nonlinear media with a local refractive index defect that is capable to trap solitons launched even close to the sample boundary despite the boundary-mediated forces that tend to deflect all beams toward the center of the sample. We show that while such forces become more pronounced with increasing the input beam power the defect can trap only light below a critical power above which solitons are ejected. The dynamics of soliton ejection and the subsequent propagation may be controlled.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the evolution of the Gaussian-shaped soliton clusters in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media, which is modeled by the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The influences of three initial incident parameters (the initial transverse velocity, the initial position, the input power) on propagation dynamics of the soliton clusters are all discussed in detail. The results show that the intensity distribution, the trajectory, the center distance, and the angular velocity of the clusters can be controlled by adjusting the initial incident parameters. A series of analytical solutions on the propagation dynamics of the clusters are derived by borrowing ideas from classical physics. The results in this paper may have potential applications in the beam controlling and all-optical interconnection with the interacting characteristics of (2+1)-dimensional soliton clusters. Abstract:We obtain exact spatiotemporal similaritons to a (3+1)-dimensional inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation, which describes the propagation of optical pulses in a cubic-quintic nonlinearity medium with distributed dispersion and gain. A one-to-one correspondence between such self-similar waves and solutions of the elliptic equation is found when a certain compatibility condition is satisfied. Based on exact solutions, we discuss evolutional behaviors of self-similar cnoidal waves and chirped similaritons in two kind of typical soliton control systems. Moreover, the comparison between chirped similaritons and chirp-free solitons is given.

Abstract:The nonlinear propagation of light pulses in liquid-filled photonic crystal fibers is considered. Due to the slow reorientational nonlinearity of some molecular liquids, the nonlinear modes propagating inside such structures can be approximated, for pulse durations much shorter than the molecular relaxation time, by temporally highly-nonlocal solitons, analytical solutions of a linear Schroedinger equation. The physical relevance of these novel solitary structures, which may have a broad range of applications, is discussed and supported by detailed numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper investigates a generalized form of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation characterized by a logarithmic nonlinearity. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation, a fundamental equation in nonlinear wave theory, is applied across various physical systems including nonlinear optics, Bose–Einstein condensates, and fluid dynamics. We specifically explore a logarithmic variant of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to model complex wave phenomena that conventional polynomial nonlinearities fail to capture. We derive four distinct forms of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with logarithmic nonlinearity and provide exact solutions for each, encompassing bright, dark, and kink-type solitons, as well as a range of periodic solitary waves. Analytical techniques are employed to construct bounded and unbounded traveling wave solutions, and the dynamics of these solutions are analyzed through phase portraits of the associated dynamical systems. These findings extend the scope of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to more accurately describe wave behaviors in complex media and open avenues for future research into non-standard nonlinear wave equations.

Abstract:The analytical propagation formulae of twisted partially coherent beams in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media (SNNM) are derived. It is shown that a twisted partially coherent soliton (TPCS) can be formed in SNNM when the critical power arrives. The analytical expressions of the characteristic parameters of TPCSs are also derived, e.g., the critical power, soliton width, soliton coherence width, and soliton twist parameter. It is found that the characteristics of TPCSs can be manipulated by the twist parameter. In particular, a TPCS may convert to a soliton without twist when the critical coherence width arrives.

Abstract:The propagation of hollow Gaussian beams in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media is studied in detail. Two analytical expressions are derived. For hollow Gaussian beams, the intensity distribution always evolves periodically. However the second-order moment beam width can keep invariant during propagation if the input power is equal to the critical power. The interaction of two hollow Gaussian beams and the vortical hollow Gaussian beams are also discussed. The vortical hollow Gaussian beams with an appropriate topological charge can keep their shapes invariant during propagation.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate spatial dark solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media. Based on the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the diffusion equation, the numerical solutions with different propagation constants are obtained by using the Newton iterative method. And it is found that there exist dark soliton solutions .and the relation between the width of dark soliton and the degree of nonlocality for any propagation constant under arbitrary nonlocal degrees different propagation constants. In experiments, we observe the formation of the spatial dark solitons in the solution of dye. The influence of Gaussian background on dark solitons is also discussed, and the numerical results are in agreement with the experimental results.

Abstract:Nonlinear wave equations are central to the study of nonlinear optics and fluid dynamics. Notably, recent research has shown that solitons can be generated in mode-locked lasers. An interesting application of these lasers is the development of optical clocks which have the potential to be considerably more accurate than atomic clocks. Another important area of research in nonlinear optics is lattice dynamics where localized solitary wave or solitons can be obtained in periodic and irregular lattice systems. In honeycomb lattices, discrete and continuous nonlinear Dirac systems can be derived in certain parameter regimes; the Dirac systems describe conical diffraction, a phenomena observed in recent experiments. In water and internal waves the classical equations are reformulated as a system of coupled equations where the free surface equations are formulated as nonlocal equation and the depth variable is eliminated. These systems reduce to interesting asymptotic equations in suitable limits. A numerical method, termed spectral renormalization, is used to find solitary waves in nonlinear optics, water waves and multi-fluid systems.

Abstract:Based on the Collins formula in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media (SNNM), the analytical expression for Lorentz beam passing through SNNM has been derived. It is found that the propagation behavior of Lorentz beam is variable and closely related to the parameters of initial ellipticity [Formula: see text] and input power. The beam has its own critical power in [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] directions, respectively. If the Lorentz beam with critical power in a certain direction enters in SNNM, its beam width will remain constant in that direction during propagation, otherwise its beam width varies periodically, as either broad or compressed. Moreover, when [Formula: see text], the beam spot is always symmetrical in [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] directions; when [Formula: see text], the beam spot is no longer symmetrical in [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] directions. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate these quintessential propagation properties.

Abstract:The (2+1)-dimensional two-component nonlocal solitons of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the partially nonlocal nonlinearity are analytically obtained. Two component optical fields exhibit different types of dynamical behaviors. The dark soliton and bright soliton for two field components describe two co-propagating fields at different frequencies and they are both quickly stabilized to propagate parallel to the z-axis after the initial oscillations. Superposed rogue waves in bright soliton and dark soliton are also constructed for two field components.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we address various optical soliton solutions and demonstrate the different dynamics of solitary waves to a (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with parabolic law (NLSE) using a newly created powerful and effective method named as the extended generalized Riccati equation mapping method. This technique presents an organized manner to reveal the essential dynamics. There is great significance of the nonlinear Schrödinger equations and their several formulations in numerous fields of science, particularly in nonlinear optics, optical fibers, quantum electronics, and plasma physics. Through the use of numerical simulations and mathematical analysis, we explore the characteristics and behavior of these solitary wave solutions in a variety of scientific contexts. These results demonstrate the essential complexity of the governing equation and yield novel derived solutions. These solutions contribute to a better understanding of nonlinear wave phenomena by highlighting the fundamental dynamics establishing solitary waves in the NLSE. To enhance our wider knowledge, we provide effective graphic representations of the nonlinear wave structures in the derived solutions utilizing a variety of graphs, including 3D, 2D, and density plots. Moreover, a specific transformation has been applied to transform the system into a planar dynamical system, and several phase portraits have been presented to examine its behavior. Furthermore, upon introducing a perturbed term, chaotic behavior has been observed across different parameter values through both two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics.

Abstract:Nonlocality is a key feature of many physical systems since it prevents a catastrophic collapse and a symmetry-breaking azimuthal instability of intense wave beams in a bulk self-focusing nonlinear media. This opens up an intriguing perspective for stabilization of complex topological structures such as higher-order solitons, vortex rings and vortex ring-on-line complexes. Using direct numerical simulations, we find a class of cylindrically-symmetric $n$-th order spatial solitons having the intensity distribution with a central bright spot surrounded by $n$ bright rings of varying size. We investigate dynamical properties of these higher-order solitons in a media with thermal nonlocal nonlinear response. We show theoretically that a vortex complex of vortex ring and vortex line, carrying two independent winding numbers, can be created by perturbation of the stable optical vortex soliton in nonlocal nonlinear media.

Abstract:We investigate here a new class of optical beams: modified hollow Gaussian beams (MHGBs) in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media (SNNM). A set of analytical expressions for the propagation properties is deduced and some numerical simulations are also carried out to illustrate the propagation properties. It is found that the evolution of the MHGBs in SNNM is periodical, which is the result of the competition between nonlinearity and diffraction. The second-order moment beam width of the MHGBs can keep invariant during propagation like a soliton when the input power equals the critical power, otherwise it varies periodically like a breather. However, the patterns of transverse intensity are always changing with the propagation distance increasing, which is different from solitons or breathers. It is also found that the evolution curve of on-axis intensity may manifest itself in a concave, a platform, or a Gaussian-like shape depending on the input power.
