Abstract:We prove that for a compact Finsler manifold M with nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature,if its first closed(resp.Neumann)eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian attains the sharp lower bound,then M is isometric to a circle(resp.a segment).Moreover,a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition is also estimated.These generalize the corresponding results in recent literature.

Abstract:Let $\Sigma^n$ be a compact, embedded, oriented hypersurface in a compact oriented Riemannian manifold $N^{n+1}$ with the second fundamental form $h$. Let $H={\rm tr}_{g_{\Sigma}} h$ and $S=|h|^2$ be the mean curvature and squared length of the second fundamental form $h$ of $\Sigma$, respectively. If the Ricci curvature of $N^{}$ is bounded from below by a positive constant $k>0$ and the sectional curvature of $N^{}$ is bounded from above by a positive constant $K>0$, then the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian on $\Sigma$ has a lower bound $$\lambda_1(\Sigma)\geq \frac {k}{2}- \frac{H_{\Sigma}}{2} \left( nK+\frac{2\sqrt{S_{\Sigma}K}}{\arctan(\sqrt{K})}+2n\sqrt{S_{\Sigma}} +\frac{n}{n+1}H_{\Sigma} \right).$$ where $H_{\Sigma}=\max_{\Sigma}|H|$ and $S_{\Sigma}=\max_{\Sigma}S$. It extends the result of Choi and Wang [J. Diff. Geom. \textbf{18} (1983), 559--562.] to non-minimal case.

Abstract:By using the interior curvature estimate and Gromov's compactness theorem, we prove that a stable complete minimal hypersurface in R n +1 with finite total scalar curvature must be a hyperplane. Abstract:We prove that for an embedded minimal surface $\Sigma$ in $S^3$, the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian operator $\lambda_1$ satisfies $\lambda_1\geq 1+\epsilon_g$, where $\epsilon_g>0$ is a constant depending only on the genus $g$ of $\Sigma$. This improves previous result of Choi-Wang.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that a closed minimal hypersurface in $\SSS$ with $\lambda_1<n$ has Morse index at least $n+4$, providing a partial answer to a conjecture of Perdomo. As a corollary, we re-obtain a partial proof of the famous Urbano Theorem for minimal tori in $\mathbb{S}^3$: a minimal torus in $\mathbb{S}^3$ has Morse index at least $5$, with equality holding if and only if it is congruent to the Clifford torus. The proof is based on a comparison theorem between eigenvalues of two elliptic operators, which also provides us simpler new proofs of some known results on index estimates of both minimal and $r$-minimal hypersurfaces in a sphere.

Abstract:In this article, we prove an eigenvalue pinching theorem for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on compact hypersurfaces in a sphere. Let $(M^n,g)$ be a closed, connected, and oriented Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed by $\phi $ into ${\mathbb {S}}^{n+1}$. Let $q>n$ and $A>0$ be some real numbers satisfying $|M|^\frac{1}{n}(1+\Vert B\Vert _q)\le A$. Suppose that $\phi (M)\subset \overline{B}(p_0,R)$, where $p_0$ is a center of gravity of M and radius $R<\pi /2$. We prove that there exists a positive constant $\varepsilon $ depending on q, n, R, and A such that if $n(1+\Vert H\Vert _\infty ^2)-\varepsilon \le \lambda _1$, then M is diffeomorphic to ${\mathbb {S}}^n$. Furthermore, $\phi (M)$ is starshaped with respect to $p_0$, almost-isometric to the geodesic sphere $S\left( p_0,R_0\right) $, where $R_0=\arcsin \frac{1}{\sqrt{1+\Vert H\Vert _\infty ^2}}$.

Abstract:In this article, we prove pinching theorems for the first eigenvalue $\lambda _1(M)$ of the Laplacian on compact Euclidean hypersurfaces involving the integrals of $k$-th mean curvature. Particularly, we show that under a suitable pinching condition, the hypersurface is starshaped and almost-isometric to a standard sphere. Based on our theorems, we prove some pinching results for the almost-Einstein and almost-umbilical hypersurfaces in Euclidean space.

Abstract:Let M be an n -dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with or without boundary, and its Ricci curvature Ric M ⩾ n −1. The paper obtains an inequality for the first eigenvalue η 1 of M with mixed boundary condition, which is a generalization of the results of Lichnerowicz, Reilly, Escobar and Xia. It is also proved that η 1 ⩾ n for certain n -dimensional compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary, which is an extension of the work of Cheng, Li and Yau.

Abstract:The totally umbilical and non-totally geodesic hypersurfaces in the (n + 1)-dimensional spheres are characterized as the only hypersurfaces with weak stability index 0. In our 2010 paper we proved that the weak stability index of a compact hypersurface M with constant scalar curvature n(n − 1)r, r> 1, in an (n + 1)-dimensional sphere Sn + 1(1), which is not a totally umbilical hypersurface, is greater than or equal to n + 2 if the mean curvature H and H3 are constant. In this paper, we prove the same results, without the assumption that H3 is constant. In fact, we show that the weak stability index of a compact hypersurface M with constant scalar curvature n(n − 1)r, r> 1, in Sn + 1(1), which is not a totally umbilical hypersurface, is greater than or equal to n + 2 if the mean curvature H is constant.

Abstract:An embedded free boundary minimal surface in the 3-ball has a Steklov eigenvalue of one due to its coordinate functions. Fraser and Li conjectured that whether one is the first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue. In this paper, we show that if an embedded free boundary minimal surface of genus zero, with $n$ boundary components, in the 3-ball has $n$ distinct reflection planes, then one is the first eigenvalue of the surface.

Abstract:Let $\Sigma$ be a closed embedded minimal hypersurface in the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{m+1}$ and let $\Lambda=\max\limits_{\Sigma}|A|$ be the norm of its second fundamental form. In this work we prove that the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of $\Sigma$ satisfies $$\lambda_1(\Sigma)> \dfrac{m}{2}+\frac{m(m+1)}{32(12\Lambda+m+11)^2+8},$$ and $\lambda_1(\Sigma)=m$, when $\Lambda\le\sqrt{m}$. In particular, this estimate improves the one obtained recently in \cite{duncan2023improved}. The proof of our main result is based on a Rayleigh quotient estimate for a harmonic extension of an eigenfunction of the Laplacian of $\Sigma$ in the spirit of \cite{choi1983first}.

Abstract:We derive a sharp upper bound for the first eigenvalue $\lambda_{1,p}$ of the $p$-Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds for $1<p<\infty$. We then prove that a particular class of conformally compact submanifolds within asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds are themselves asymptotically hyperbolic. As a corollary, we show that for any minimal conformally compact submanifold $Y^{k+1}$ within $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}(-1)$, $\lambda_{1,p}(Y)=\left(\frac{k}{p}\right)^{p}$. We then obtain lower bounds on $\lambda_{1,2}(Y)$ in the case where minimality is replaced with a bounded mean curvature assumption and where the ambient space is a general Poincaré-Einstein space whose conformal infinity is of non-negative Yamabe type. In the process, we introduce an invariant $\hat \beta^Y$ for each such submanifold, enabling us to generalize a result due to Cheung-Leung.
