Abstract: In the framework of locally compact quantum groups, we provide an induction procedure for unitary corepresentations as well as coactions on C*-algebras. We prove imprimitivity theorems that unify the existing theorems for actions and coactions of groups. We essentially use von Neumann algebraic techniques.

Abstract:We introduce the construction of induced corepresentations in the setting of locally compact quantum groups and prove that the resulting induced corepresentations are unitary under some mild integrability condition. We also establish a quantum analogue of the classical bijective correspondence between quasi-invariant measures and certain measures on the larger locally compact group.

Abstract:For $\mathbb{G}$ an algebraic (or more generally, a bornological) quantum group and $\mathbb{B}$ a closed quantum subgroup of $\mathbb{G}$, we build in this paper an induction module by explicitly defining an inner product which takes its value in the convolution algebra of $\mathbb{B}$, as in the original approach of Rieffel \cite{Rieffel}. In this context, we study the link with the induction functor defined by Vaes. In the last part we illustrate our result with parabolic induction of complex semi-simple quantum groups with the approach suggested by Clare \cite{Clare}\cite{CCH}.

The Modular Stone-von Neumann Theorem

Abstract:In this paper, we use the tools of nonabelian duality to formulate and prove a far-reaching generalization of the Stone-von Neumann Theorem to modular representations of actions and coactions of locally compact groups on elementary $ C^{\ast} $-algebras. This greatly extends the Covariant Stone-von Neumann Theorem for Actions of Abelian Groups recently proven by L. Ismert and the second author. Our approach is based on a new result about Hilbert $ C^{\ast} $-modules that is simple to state yet is widely applicable and can be used to streamline many previous arguments, so it represents an improvement -- in terms of both efficiency and generality -- in a long line of results in this area of mathematical physics that goes back to J. von Neumann's proof of the classical Stone-von Neumann Theorem.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{G}$ be an algebraic quantum group and $\mathcal{U}$ a compact quantum subgroup. Given a left $\hat{\mathcal{U}}$-module algebra A with unit, we can endow $A\otimes\mathcal{G}$ with a structure of a right $\hat{\mathcal{U}}$-module algebra. The algebra of invariants for this action $(A\otimes\mathcal{G})^{\hat{\mathcal{U}}}$ has a left action of $\hat{\mathcal{G}}$. We prove that for finite $\mathcal{G}$, $(A\otimes\mathcal{G})^{\hat{\mathcal{U}}}\#\hat{\mathcal{G}}$ is Morita equivalent to $A\#\hat{\mathcal{U}}$.

Topological Boundaries of Representations and Coideals

Abstract:For a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$, a (left) coideal is a (left) $\mathbb{G}$-invariant von Neumann subalgebra of $L^\infty(\mathbb{G})$. We introduce and analyze various generalizations of amenability and coamenability to coideals of discrete and compact quantum groups. We focus on a particular class of coideals found in the category of compact quantum groups, which are associated with a compact quasi-subgroup. This class includes all coideals of the quotient type. We also introduce the notion of a Furstenberg-Hamana boundary for representations of discrete quantum groups and use it to study amenability and coamenability properties of coideals. We then prove that a coideal of a compact quantum group that is associated with a compact quasi-subgroup is coamenable if and only if its codual coideal is $\mathbb{G}$-injective. If $\mathbb{G}$ is a unimodular or an exact discrete quantum group, we can replace $\mathbb{G}$-injectivity in the latter statement with the weaker condition of relative amenability. This result leads to a complete characterization of the unique trace property. Specifically, a unimodular discrete quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ has the unique trace property if and only if the action of $\mathbb{G}$ on its noncommutative Furstenberg boundary is faithful. We also demonstrated that if a unimodular discrete quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ is $C^*$-simple then it has the unique trace property. These findings are the quantum analogs of the groundbreaking results of Breuillard, Kalantar, Kennedy, and Ozawa and they provide answers to questions posted by Kalantar, Kasprzak, Skalski, and Vergnioux.

Abstract:In this paper we complete in several aspects the picture of locally compact quantum groups. First of all we give a definition of a locally compact quantum group in the von Neumann algebraic setting and show how to deduce from it a $C^*$-algebraic quantum group. Further we prove several results about locally compact quantum groups which are important for applications, but were not yet settled in our paper [8]. We prove a serious strengthening of the left invariance of the Haar weight, and we give several formulas connecting the locally compact quantum group with its dual. Loosely speaking we show how the antipode of the locally compact quantum group determines the modular group and modular conjugation of the dual locally compact quantum group.

Abstract:We investigate the theory of induction in the setting of doubles of coideal $*$-subalgebras of compact quantum group Hopf $*$-algebras. We then exemplify parts of this theory in the particular case of quantum $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$, and compute the decomposition of the regular representation for quantum $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ into irreducibles.

Abstract:An open question in quantum complexity theory is whether or not the class $\operatorname{MIP}^{co}$, consisting of languages that can be efficiently verified using interacting provers sharing quantum resources according to the quantum commuting model, coincides with the class $coRE$ of languages with recursively enumerable complement. We introduce the notion of a qc-modulus, which encodes approximations to quantum commuting correlations, and show that the existence of a computable qc-modulus gives a negative answer to a natural variant of the aforementioned question.

Infinite Dimensional Analysis Quantum Probability and Related Topics

Abstract:Infinite Dimensional Analysis, Quantum Probability and Related Topics, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we develop the theory of quasi-invariant (respectively, strongly quasi-invariant) states under the action of a group [math] of normal ∗-automorphisms of a ∗-algebra (or von Neumann algebra) [math]. We prove that these states are naturally associated to left-[math]-[math]-cocycles. If [math] is compact, the structure of strongly [math]-quasi-invariant states is determined. For any [math]-strongly quasi-invariant state [math], we construct a unitary representation associated to the triple [math]. We prove, under some conditions, that any quantum Markov chain with commuting, invertible and Hermitian conditional density amplitudes on a countable tensor product of type I factors is strongly quasi-invariant with respect to the natural action of the group [math] of local permutations and we give the explicit form of the associated cocycle. This provides a family of nontrivial examples of strongly quasi-invariant states for locally compact groups obtained as inductive limit of an increasing sequence of compact groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct certain unipotent representations for the real orthogonal group and the metaplectic group in the sense of Vogan. Our construction is based on quantum induction which involves the compositions of even number of theta correspondences. In particular, our results imply that there are irreducible unitary representations attached to each special nilpotent orbit.

Abstract:This is a short survey on idempotent states on locally compact groups and locally compact quantum groups. The central topic is the relationship between idempotent states, subgroups and invariant C*-subalgebras. We concentrate on recent results on locally compact quantum groups, but begin with the classical notion of idempotent probability measure. We also consider the ‘intermediate’ case of idempotent states in the Fourier–Stieltjes algebra: this is the dual case of idempotent probability measures and so an instance of idempotent states on a locally compact quantum group.

Abstract:Abstract For a maximal coaction δ of a discrete group G on a C *-algebra A and a normal subgroup N of G , there are at least three natural A × G × δ | N - A × δ |1 G/N imprimitivity bimodules: Mansfield's bimodule ; the bimodule assembled by Ng from Green's imprimitivity bimodule and Katayama duality; and the bimodule assembled from and the crossed-product Mansfield bimodule . We show that all three of these are isomorphic, so that the corresponding inducing maps on representations are identical. This can be interpreted as saying that Mansfield and Green induction are inverses of one another ‘modulo Katayama duality’. These results pass to twisted coactions; dual results starting with an action are also given.

An inductive approach to representations of general linear groups over compact discrete valuation rings

Abstract:In his seminal Lecture Notes in Mathematics published in 1981, Andrey Zelevinsky introduced a new family of Hopf algebras which he called {\em PSH-algebras}. These algebras were designed to capture the representation theory of the symmetric groups and of classical groups over finite fields. The gist of this construction is to translate representation-theoretic operations such as induction and restriction and their parabolic variants to algebra and coalgebra operations such as multiplication and comultiplication. The Mackey formula, for example, is then reincarnated as the Hopf axiom on the algebra side. In this paper we take substantial steps to adapt these ideas for general linear groups over compact discrete valuation rings. We construct an analogous bialgebra that contains a large PSH-algebra that extends Zelevinsky's algebra for the case of general linear groups over finite fields. We prove several base change results relating algebras over extensions of discrete valuation rings.

Equivariant Tannaka-Krein reconstruction and quantum automorphism groups of discrete structures

Abstract:We define quantum automorphism groups of a wide range of discrete structures. The central tool for their construction is a generalisation of the Tannaka-Krein reconstruction theorem. For any direct sum of matrix algebras $M$, and any concrete unitary 2-category of finite type Hilbert-$M$-bimodules $\mathcal{C}$, under reasonable conditions, we construct an algebraic quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ which acts on $M$ by $\alpha$, such that the category of $\alpha$-equivariant corepresentations of $\mathbb{G}$ on finite type Hilbert-$M$-bimodules is equivalent to $\mathcal{C}$. Moreover, we explicitly describe how to get such categories from connected locally finite discrete structures. As an example, we define the quantum automorphism group of a quantum Cayley graph.

Abstract:We study the Haagerup--Kraus approximation property for locally compact quantum groups, generalising and unifying previous work by Kraus--Ruan and Crann. Along the way we discuss how multipliers of quantum groups interact with the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebraic theory of locally compact quantum groups. Several inheritance properties of the approximation property are established in this setting, including passage to quantum subgroups, free products of discrete quantum groups, and duals of double crossed products. We also discuss a relation to the weak$^*$ operator approximation property. For discrete quantum groups, we introduce a central variant of the approximation property, and relate this to a version of the approximation property for rigid $\mathrm{C}^*$-tensor categories, building on work of Arano--De Laat--Wahl.

Quantum Harmonic Analysis on locally compact abelian groups

Abstract:We extend the notions of quantum harmonic analysis, as introduced in [48], to abelian phase spaces, by which we mean a locally compact abelian group endowed with a Heisenberg multiplier. In this way, we obtain a joint harmonic analysis of functions and operators for each such phase space. For all this, we spend significant extra effort to include also phase spaces which are not second countable. We obtain most results from [48] for these general phase spaces, up to Wiener's approximation theorem for operators. As an addition, we extend certain of those results (most notably Wiener's approximation theorem) to operators acting on certain coorbit spaces affiliated with the phase space.

Abstract:In his article "Transcending Classical Invariant Theory" (J.A.M.S., 1989, Vol 2), Roger Howe established a correspondence between representations of a dual pair of reductive groups. This correspondence is known as Howe's correspondence or local theta correspondence. In my paper "Unitary Representations and Theta Correspondence for Classical Group of Type I"(to appear in J. Func. Anal.), we proved that theta correspondence over the real field preserves unitarity under certain restrictions, generalizing some results of Jian-Shu Li (Invent. Math., Vol 97, 1989). In this paper, we study the compositions of theta correspondences. Under certain favorable conditions, we prove that the composition of theta correspodence yields unitary representations. We call this process quantum induction. Quantum induction resembles parabolic induction in various ways. Some results in this paper were announced at ICM-2002.

Coorbit spaces associated to quasi-Banach function spaces and their molecular decomposition

Abstract:This paper provides a self-contained exposition of coorbit spaces associated to integrable group representations and quasi-Banach function spaces, and at the same time extends and simplifies previous work. The main results provide an extension of the theory in [Studia Math., 180(3):237-253, 2007] from groups admitting a compact, conjugation-invariant unit neighborhood to arbitrary (possibly nonunimodular) locally compact groups. In addition, the present paper establishes the existence of molecular dual frames and Riesz sequences as in [J. Funct. Anal., 280(10):56, 2021] for the full scale of quasi-Banach function spaces. The theory is developed for possibly projective and reducible unitary representations in order to be easily applicable to well-studied function spaces not satisfying the classical assumptions of coorbit theory. Compared to the existing literature on quasi-Banach coorbit spaces, all our results apply under significantly weaker integrability conditions on the analyzing vectors, which allows for obtaining sharp results in concrete settings
