Abstract: The article is devoted to the investigation of transformation groups of polynomials over Cayley-Dickson algebras and their manifolds of zeros. The problems about expressibility of zeros with the help of roots and decomposibility of polynomials as products of linear terms are studied.

Abstract:Polynomials are special examples of (effective) zero-cycles on varieties. We prove a Prime Number Theorem and an Erdos-Kac theorem for zero-cycles on a smooth variety over finite fields, generalizing previous results about polynomials over finite fields. In this way, the well-known analogy between integers and polynomials is extended to zero-cycles. We also show that the Frobenius automorphism on a random zero-cycle of degree $n$ tends to be equidistributed as $n\to\infty$.

Abstract:We study the zeros of cusp forms of large weight for the modular group, which have a very large order of vanishing at infinity, so that they have a fixed number D of finite zeros in the fundamental domain. We show that for large weight the zeros of these forms cluster near D vertical lines, with the zeros of a weight k form lying at height approximately log(k). This is in contrast to previously known cases, such as Eisenstein series, where the zeros lie on the circular part of the boundary of the fundamental domain, or the case of cuspidal Hecke eigenforms where the zeros are uniformly distributed in the fundamental domain. Our method uses the Faber polynomials. We show that for our class of cusp forms, the associated Faber polynomials, suitably renormalized, converge to the truncated exponential polynomial of degree D.

Abstract:We give new sufficient conditions for a sequence of polynomials to have onlyreal zeros based on the method of interlacing zeros. As applications we deriveseveral well-known facts, including the reality of zeros of orthogonalpolynomials, matching polynomials, Narayana polynomials and Eulerianpolynomials. We also settle certain conjectures of Stahl on genus polynomialsby proving them for certain classes of graphs, while showing that they arefalse in general.

Abstract:For any $A(z),B(z),C(z)\in\mathbb{C}[z]$, we study the zero distribution of a table of polynomials $\left\{ P_{m,n}(z)\right\} _{m,n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}}$ satisfying the recurrence relation \[ P_{m,n}(z)=A(z)P_{m-1,n}(z)+B(z)P_{m,n-1}(z)+C(z)P_{m-1,n-1}(z) \] with the initial condition $P_{0,0}(z)=1$ and $P_{-m,-n}(z)=0$ $\forall m,n\in\mathbb{N}$. We show that the zeros of $P_{m,n}(z)$ lie on a curve whose equation is given explicitly in terms of $A(z),B(z)$, and $C(z)$. We also study the zero distribution of a case with a general initial condition.

Abstract:Wan and Zhang (2021) obtained a nontrivial lower bound for the number of zeros of complete symmetric polynomials over finite fields, and proposed a problem whether their bound can be improved. In this paper, the author improves Wan-Zhang's bound from three aspects. The proposed results are based on the estimates related to the number of certain permutations and the value sets of non-permutation polynomials associated to the complete symmetric polynomial. And the author believes that there are still possibilities to improve the bounds and hence Wan-Zhang's bound.

Abstract:In this paper we study the group A0(X) of zero-dimensional cycles of degree 0 modulo rational equivalence on a projective homogeneous algebraic variety X. To do this we translate rational equivalence of 0-cycles on a projective variety into R-equivalence on symmetric powers of the variety. For certain homogeneous varieties, we then relate these symmetric powers to moduli spaces of étale subalgebras of central simple algebras which we construct. This allows us to show A0(X)=0 for certain classes of homogeneous varieties for groups of each of the classical types, extending previous results of Swan/Karpenko, of Merkurjev, and of Panin.

Abstract:The piecewise algebraic variety is the set of all common zeros of multivariate splines. We show that solving a parametric piecewise algebraic variety amounts to solve a finite number of parametric polynomial systems containing strict inequalities. With the regular decomposition of semi-algebraic systems and the partial cylindrical algebraic decomposition method, we give a method to compute the supremum of the number of torsion-free real zeros of a given zero-dimensional parametric piecewise algebraic variety, and to get distributions of the number of real zeros in every n -dimensional cell when the number reaches the supremum. This method also produces corresponding necessary and sufficient conditions for reaching the supremum and its distributions. We also present an algorithm to produce a necessary and sufficient condition for a given zero-dimensional parametric piecewise algebraic variety to have a given number of distinct torsion-free real zeros in every n -cell in the n -complex.

Abstract:The zeros of D'Arcais polynomials, also known as Nekrasov--Okounkov polynomials, dictate the vanishing of the Fourier coefficients of powers of the Dedekind functions. These polynomials satisfy difference equations of hereditary type with non-constant coefficients. We relate the D'Arcais polynomials to polynomials satisying a Volterra difference equation of convolution type. We obtain results on the transfer of the location of the zeros. As an application, we obtain an identity between Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind and $1$-associated Laguerre polynomials. We obtain a new version of the Lehmer conjecture and bounds for the zeros of the Hermite polynomials.

On the geometry of zero sets of central quaternionic polynomials

Abstract:Let R be the ring of polynomials in n central variables over the real quaternion algebra H, and let I be a left ideal in R. We prove that if a polynomial p in R vanishes at all the common zeros of I in H^n with commuting coordinates, then as a slice regular quaternionic function, p vanishes at all common zeros of I in H^n. This confirms a conjecture of Gori, Sarfatti and Vlacci, who settled the two dimensional case.

Abstract:We study zeros distribution for meromorphic functions of the form $\sum\limits_n \dfrac{c_n}{(z-t_n)^2}$, where $\sum\limits_n \dfrac{|c_n|}{|t_n|^2} <\infty$. We prove an analog of the classical Keldysh theorem and discuss a relation between zero-free functions of this form and second order differential equtions with polynomial coefficients.

Abstract:Following the work of the first and last authors [2], we further analyze the structure of a zero set of a left ideal in the ring of central polynomials over the quaternion algebra H. We describe the "algebraic hull" of a point in H^n and prove it is a product of spheres. Using this description we give a new proof to a conjecture of Gori, Sarfatti and Vlacci. We also show that the main result of [2] does not extend to general division algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove bounds for the unique, positive zero of O-G*(z) := 1 - O-G(z), where O-G(z) is the so-called orbit polynomial [1]. The orbit polynomial is based on the multiplicity and cardinalities of the vertex orbits of a graph. In [1], we have shown that the unique, positive zero delta <= 1 of O-G*(z) can serve as a meaningful measure of graph symmetry. Abstract:We combine the relative trace formula with analytic methods to obtain zero density estimate for $L$-functions in various families of automorphic representations for $\mathrm{GL}(m)$. Applications include strong bounds for the average analytic rank of these $L$-functions at the central point and average equidistribution results for the imaginary parts of the zeros.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the distribution of normalized zero-sets of random polynomials when the coefficients of the polynomials are random variables associated to independent (but not necessarily identical) distributions satisfying additional certain mild conditions. Our main result describes the expectation of such normalized zero-set when the degree of the random polynomial of one complex variable tends to infinity. This generalizes well-known results in the case of the Gaussian distribution. We also apply our main result to study certain random polynomials of several complex variables using the slicing method of value distribution theory.

Abstract:We introduce the concept of piecewise interlacing zeros for studying the relation of root distribution of two polynomials. The concept is pregnant with an idea of confirming the real-rootedness of polynomials in a sequence. Roughly speaking, one constructs a collection of disjoint intervals such that one may show by induction that consecutive polynomials have interlacing zeros over each of the intervals. We confirm the real-rootedness of some polynomials satisfying a recurrence with linear polynomial coefficients. This extends Gross et al.'s work where one of the polynomial coefficients is a constant.

Abstract:Polynomials with perturbed coefficients, which can be regarded as interval polynomials, are very common in the area of scientific computing due to floating point operations in a computer environment. In this paper, the zeros of interval polynomials are investigated. We show that, for a degree n interval polynomial, the number of interval zeros is at most n and the number of complex block zeros is exactly n if multiplicities are counted. The boundaries of complex block zeros on a complex plane are analyzed. Numeric algorithms to bound interval zeros and complex block zeros are presented.
