Abstract: The $D^*D\pi$ form factor is evaluated at low and moderate $Q^2$ in a hadronic loop model, for off-shell $D$ mesons. The results contain arbitrary constants, which are fixed so as to match previous QCD sum rule calculations valid at higher $Q^2$. The form factor obtained in this way was used to extract the coupling constant, which is in very good agreement with the experimental value.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to derive and explain the Levi-Civita effect using the Polarizable Vacuum (PV) representation, including both magnetic and electric cases. Specifically, the paper aims to demonstrate how, within the framework of General Relativity (GR), the PV method can be used to understand changes in spacetime curvature as effective changes in the vacuum refractive index, and further explore the impact of these changes on light propagation.
### Main Issues
1. **Derivation of the Levi-Civita Effect**:
- The paper derives the Levi-Civita effect using the PV method, i.e., how changes in the spacetime metric in a uniform static magnetic or electric field affect the speed of light.
- Specifically, the paper shows how the vacuum dielectric constant \( K \) changes under the influence of these fields, and from this, derives the change in the speed of light \( c' \).
2. **Physical Significance**:
- The paper explains the physical significance of these changes, i.e., in a magnetic or electric field, the speed of light slows down and reaches a minimum in the central region of the field.
- This effect can be quantified by the propagation time of light in these fields, providing an experimentally verifiable method.
### Method
- **PV Method**:
- The paper uses the PV method, treating the vacuum as a polarizable medium whose refractive index changes with spacetime curvature.
- By introducing a Lagrangian density and the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations, the paper derives the equation describing the change in the vacuum dielectric constant \( K \).
- **Mathematical Derivation**:
- For the magnetic field, the paper derives the relationship of \( K \) with position \( z \) and provides the expression for the speed of light \( c' \).
- For the electric field, the paper similarly derives the relationship of \( K \) with position \( z \) and provides the expression for the speed of light \( c' \).
### Conclusion
- The paper successfully derives the Levi-Civita effect using the PV method, showing how changes in the vacuum dielectric constant \( K \) in uniform static magnetic and electric fields lead to changes in the speed of light.
- These results not only provide a theoretical explanation but also offer a possible method for experimental verification.
### Application Prospects
- **Experimental Verification**:
- The results of the paper can be used to design experiments to verify changes in the speed of light in strong magnetic or electric fields, thereby further validating the predictions of General Relativity.
- **Theoretical Research**:
- The PV method provides a new perspective for studying the effects of General Relativity under strong field conditions, helping to deepen the understanding of the nature of spacetime curvature.
In summary, the paper successfully derives the Levi-Civita effect using the PV method and provides a detailed theoretical foundation for its physical significance and experimental verification.
