Abstract:Abstract We study the derivative nonlinear wave equation $- \partial _{tt} u + \Delta u = |\nabla u|^2$ on $\mathbb{R}^{1 +3}$. The deterministic theory is determined by the Lorentz-critical regularity $s_L = 2$, and both local well-posedness above $s_L$ as well as ill-posedness below $s_L$ are known. In this paper, we show the local existence of solutions for randomized initial data at the super-critical regularities $s\geqslant 1.984$. In comparison to the previous literature in random dispersive equations, the main difficulty is the absence of a (probabilistic) nonlinear smoothing effect. To overcome this, we introduce an adaptive and iterative decomposition of approximate solutions into rough and smooth components. In addition, our argument relies on refined Strichartz estimates, a paraproduct decomposition, and the truncation method of de Bouard and Debussche.

Abstract:We establish the probabilistic well-posedness of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the $2d$ sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2}$. The initial data are distributed according to Gaussian measures with typical regularity $H^{s}(\mathbb{S}^{2})$, for $s>0$. This level of regularity goes significantly beyond existing deterministic results, in a regime where the flow map cannot be extended uniformly continuously.

Abstract:We get a local existence result in $H^s$ with $s>3/2$ for second order quasilinear wave equation with radial initial data in 2+1 dimensions, based on an improvement of Strichartz estimate in the radial case. Moreover, we get the corresponding local well-posed result for semilinear wave equation. The required index of regularity here is 1/4 less than the index 7/4, which is essentially sharp in general.

Abstract:For any subcritical index of regularity s > 3/2, we prove the almost global well posedness for the 2-dimensional semilinear wave equation with the cubic nonlinearity in the derivatives, when the initial data are small in the Sobolev space H s × H s−1 with certain angular regularity. The lifespan is known to be sharp in general. The main new ingredient in the proof is an endpoint version of the generalized Strichartz estimates in the space . In the last section, we also consider the general semilinear wave equations with the spatial dimension n ≥ 2 and the order of nonlinearity p ≥ 3.
Well-posedness of a first order in time nonlinear wave equation with nonhomogeneous Dirichlet or Neumann type boundary conditions in fractional Sobolev spaces

Abstract:In this paper, we analyze the well-posedness of a first order in time nonlinear wave equation with nonhomogeneous Dirichlet or Neumann type boundary conditions, also known as known as Hodge, Lions or Navier-slip boundary conditions, in fractional Sobolev spaces. We do this by first showing the well-posedness of an abstract system and then apply the results to concrete operators and function spaces that represent the different boundary conditions in an appropriate sense. The analysis of the abstract system is based on a spectral decomposition of a positive self adjoint operator. The regularity of the solution is given in terms of the domains of fractional powers of this operator. Using Galerkins method and Newton-Kantorovich Theorem, we prove well-posedness of the abstract nonlinear system with possibly nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The connection between the domains of fractional powers of the operator and fractional Sobolev spaces makes it possible to obtain results for a system with nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions with fractional Sobolev space regularity. For the Neumann type boundary conditions we show an integer valued Sobolev regularity of the solution.

Abstract:Inspired by the work of Burq and Tzvetkov (Invent. math. 173(2008), 449-475.), firstly, we construct the local strong solution to the cubic nonlinear wave equation with random data for a large set of initial data in $H^{s}(M)$ with $s\geq \frac{5}{14}$, where M is a three dimensional compact manifold with boundary, moreover, our result improves the result of Theorem 2 in (Invent. math. 173(2008), 449-475.); secondly, we construct the local strong solution to the quintic nonlinear wave equation with random data for a large set of initial data in $H^{s}(M)$ with $s\geq\frac{1}{6}$, where M is a two dimensional compact boundaryless manifold; finally, we construct the local strong solution to the quintic nonlinear wave equation with random data for a large set of initial data in $H^{s}(M)$ with $s\geq \frac{23}{90}$, where M is a two dimensional compact manifold with boundary.

Higher order expansion for the probabilistic local well-posedness theory for a cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Abstract:In this paper, we study the probabilistic local well-posedness of the cubic Schrödinger equation (cubic NLS): \[ (i\partial_{t} + \Delta) u = \pm |u|^{2} u \text{ on } [0,T) \times \mathbb{R}^{d}, \] with initial data being a Wiener randomization at unit scale of a given function $f$. We prove that a solution exists almost-surely locally in time provided $f\in H^{S}_{x}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ with $S>\max\big(\frac{d-3}{4},\frac{d-4}{2}\big)$ for $d\geq 3$. In particular, we establish that the local well-posedness holds for any $S>0$ when $d=3$. We also show that, under appropriate smallness conditions for the initial data, the solutions are global in time and scatter.

In particular, we exhibit nonlinear smoothing when the initial data are randomized. Abstract:In this paper, we study the local well-posedness of the cubic Schrödinger equation $$(i\partial_t + \mathcal{L}) u = \pm |u|^2 u \qquad \textrm{on} \quad \ I\times \mathbb{R}^d ,$$ with initial data being a Wiener randomization at unit scale of a given function $f$ and $\mathcal{L}$ being an operator of degree $\sigma\geq 2$. In particular, we prove that a solution exists almost-surely locally in time provided $f\in H^{S}_{x}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ with $S>\frac{2-\sigma}{4}$ for $d\leq \frac{3\sigma}{2}$, i.e. even if the initial datum is taken in certain negative order Sobolev spaces. The solutions are constructed as a sum of an explicit multilinear expansion of the flow in terms of the random initial data and of an additional smoother remainder term with deterministically subcritical regularity. We develop the framework of directional space-time norms to control the (probabilistic) multilinear expansion and the (deterministic) remainder term and to obtain improved bilinear probabilistic-deterministic Strichartz estimates.

Abstract:In the significant work of [6], Alinhac proved the global existence of small solutions for 2D quasilinear wave equations under the null conditions. The proof heavily relies on the fact that the initial data have compact support [23]. Whether this constraint can be removed or not is still unclear. In this paper, for fully nonlinear wave equations under the null conditions, we prove the global well-posedness for small initial data without compact support. Abstract:The authors investigate the influence of a harmonic potential and random perturbations on the nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The local and global well-posedness are proved with values in the space Σ(ℝ n ) = { f ∈ H 1 (ℝ n ), |·| f ∈ L 2 (ℝ n )}. When the nonlinearity is focusing and L 2 -supercritical, the authors give sufficient conditions for the solutions to blow up in finite time for both confining and repulsive potential. Especially for the repulsive case, the solution to the deterministic equation with the initial data satisfying the stochastic blow-up condition will also blow up in finite time. Thus, compared with the deterministic equation for the repulsive case, the blow-up condition is stronger on average, and depends on the regularity of the noise. If ϕ = 0, our results coincide with the ones for the deterministic equation.

Abstract:The initial data problem to a nonlinear shallow water wave equation in nonhomogeneous Besov space is discussed. Using the decomposition of Littlewood-Paley and the properties of nonhomogeneous Besov space, we establish the well-posedness of short time solutions for the equation in the Besov space. A blow-up criterion of solutions is also obtained.

Abstract:Systems of wave equations may fail to be globally well posed, even for small initial data. Attempts to classify systems into well and ill-posed categories work by identifying structural properties of the equations that can work as indicators of well-posedness. The most famous of these are the null and weak null conditions. As noted by Keir, related formulations may fail to properly capture the effect of undifferentiated terms in systems of wave equations. We show that this is because null conditions are good for categorising behaviour close to null infinity, but not at timelike infinity. In this paper, we propose an alternative condition for semilinear equations that work for undifferentiated non-linearities as well. We illustrate the strength of this new condition by proving global well and ill-posedness statements for some systems of equation that are not critical according to the our classification. Furthermore, we given two examples of systems satisfying the weak null condition with global ill-posedness due to undifferentiated terms, thereby disproving the weak null conjecture as stated in [DP18].

Abstract:We study bifurcations of nonlinear waves (spatially inhomogeneous solutions) emerging from homogeneous equilibrium states of an initial boundary value problem, arising in nonlinear optics, for a nonlinear parabolic equation on a disk with a spatial argument rescaling operator and with time delay. In the plane of the main parameters of the equation, we construct stability (instability) domains of homogeneous equilibrium states and study the dynamics of the stability domains depending on the rescaling coefficient. We investigate the mechanisms of stability loss by homogeneous equilibrium states, the possible bifurcations of spatially inhomogeneous self-oscillatory solutions, and their stability. We demonstrate the possibility of bifurcation of stable rotational and spiral waves.

Abstract:We consider the Cauchy problem for the defocusing energy-critical stochastic nonlinear wave equations (SNLW) with an additive stochastic forcing on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and $\mathbb{T}^{d}$ with $d \geq 3$. By adapting the probabilistic perturbation argument employed in the context of the random data Cauchy theory by Bényi-Oh-Pocovnicu (2015) and Pocovnicu (2017) and in the context of stochastic PDEs by Oh-Okamoto (2020), we prove global well-posedness of the defocusing energy-critical SNLW. In particular, on $\mathbb{T}^d$, we prove global well-posedness with the stochastic forcing below the energy space.

Abstract:We prove that the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (both focusing and defocusing) is globally well-posed in for any regularity . Well-posedness has long been known for , see [55], but not previously for any . The scaling-critical value is necessarily excluded here, since instantaneous norm inflation is known to occur [11, 40, 48]. We also prove (in a parallel fashion) well-posedness of the real- and complex-valued modified Korteweg–de Vries equations in for any . The best regularity achieved previously was (see [15, 24, 33, 39]). To overcome the failure of uniform continuity of the data-to-solution map, we employ the method of commuting flows introduced in [37]. In stark contrast with our arguments in [37], an essential ingredient in this paper is the demonstration of a local smoothing effect for both equations. Despite the nonperturbative nature of the well-posedness, the gain of derivatives matches that of the underlying linear equation. To compensate for the local nature of the smoothing estimates, we also demonstrate tightness of orbits. The proofs of both local smoothing and tightness rely on our discovery of a new one-parameter family of coercive microscopic conservation laws that remain meaningful at this low regularity.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of semilinear wave equations which satisfy the "null condition." We prove that the problem is locally well-posed in H s +1 for s > ¾ in 1 + 3 dimensions and s > ¼ in 1 + 2 dimensions. Moreover, it is shown that the result in 1 + 2 dimensions is sharp.

Abstract:We consider the defocusing, cubic nonlinear wave equation with zero Dirichlet boundary value in the exterior $\Omega = \R^3\backslash \bar{ B}(0,1)$. We make use of the distorted Fourier transform in \cite{LiSZ:NLS, Taylor:PDE:II} to establish the dispersive estimate and the global-in-time (endpoint) Strichartz estimate of the linear wave equation outside of the ball with radial data. As an application, we combine the Fourier truncation method as those in \cite{Bourgain98:FTM, GallPlan03:NLW, KenigPV00:NLW} with the energy method to show global well-posedness of radial solution to the defoucusing, cubic nonlinear wave equation outside of a ball in the Sobolev space $\left(\dot H^{s}_{D}(\Omega) \cap L^4(\Omega) \right)\times \dot H^{s-1}_{D}(\Omega)$ with $s>3/4$. To the best of the author's knowledge, it is first result about low regularity of semilinear wave equation with zero Dirichlet boundary value on the exterior domain.
