Abstract:The microstructure control of electrocatalysts is vital for catalytic performance of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline electrolyte. We synthesized herein a kind of Co3O4 nano-microspheres by a two-step method. Pink cobalt glycerate nano-microspheres were firstly synthesized by solvothermal method, and then Co3O4 nano-microspheres were synthesized by high temperature annealing. Four Co3O4 nano-microspheres composed of different nanoparticles were synthesized by adjusting annealing temperature accurately. Electrochemical tests showed that the Co3O4 nano-microspheres prepared at 300 °C exhibit the best catalytic activity for OER. The overpotential is only 356 mV to obtain 10 mA/cm2 current density. And the value of Tafel slope is 65 mV dec-1. Compared with the other Co3O4 nano-microspheres synthesized at higher temperature (400 ∼ 600 °C), the outstanding catalytic activity could be due to the Co3O4 nano-microspheres synthesized at 300 °C are composed of smaller nanoparticles, which could offer lots of catalytic active sites for adsorption and oxidation of OH–. This work put forward valuable reference for the design of high-efficiency catalysts in the field of OER.
