Abstract:Electrical power systems and modern electronics require high recoverable energy storage density ( W rec ) and ultrahigh energy storage efficiency ( ƞ ) for optimal performance. Developing dielectric materials with exceptional energy storage properties is still challenging despite extensive research on dielectric capacitors and their numerous benefits. The challenge of achieving ultrahigh energy storage density ( W rec > 4 J/cm 3 ) and ultrahigh energy storage efficiency ( ƞ > 85 %), especially with greater thermal stability, limits their use to small, lightweight, easily integrated electronic systems. Herein, we demonstrate the strategy by introducing nanodomains and controlling the grain size and band gap in 0.65(Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 ) - 0.35(BaSn 0.25 Ti 0.75 O 3 ) (BNT-BST) relaxor ferroelectric ceramics to achieve high energy storage density and ultrahigh energy storage efficiency with greater thermal stability. Solid state reaction method was used to synthesize the (1- x ) (0.65Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 –0.35(BaSn 0.25 Ti 0.75 O 3 ) - x NaNbO 3 ((1- x )(BNT-BST)- x NN) ceramics ( x = 0.0–0.10). All compositions exhibited the typical relaxor behavior. 0.92(0.65BNT-0.35BST)-0.08NN ceramic showed very high energy storage density ( W rec ≈ 5.75 J/cm 3 ) and ultrahigh energy storage efficiency ( ƞ ≈ 95 %) at 350 kV/cm. At the same time, 0.92(0.65BNT-0.35BST)-0.08NN ceramic exhibited greater thermal stability with a little variation in W rec from 20 °C to 160 °C. The energy storage properties of (BNT-BST)-NN surpasses that of current dielectric ceramics and show great potential for future energy storage dielectric ceramics.
