Abstract:To further promote the development of efficient and sustainable energy systems, this paper proposes a new high-efficiency (proton exchange membrane fuel cells)-based transcritical cogeneration system. This innovative system, named the Transcritical Combined Cooling, Heating, and Power with subcooling coupled Organic Rankine Cycle system, ensures a consistent output of cooling, thermal, and electrical energy. The key components of this system include the proton exchange membrane fuel cells stack, transcritical main cycle, subcooling cycle, and Organic Rankine Cycle. This paper involves simulations to assess the system performance in comparison to a conventional system. Furthermore, a detailed analysis explores the effect of different factors on the performance of new system. The results reveal that with the increase of R744 proportion, the optimal pressures of the three mixed refrigerants generally exhibit an upward trend, punctuated by two inflection points. In the summer, compared to the comparison system, the new system achieves a remarkable up to 18.6 % reduction in optimal pressure, a substantial 24.42 % increase in the optimal coefficient of refrigeration performance, and an impressive up to 19.85 % boost in net power generation. In the winter, the benefits persist, with the new system achieving up to a 10.81 % reduction in optimal pressure, a notable 12.52 % increase in the optimal coefficient of heating performance, and a remarkable up to 397.93 % increase in net power generation compared to the comparison system. Furthermore, the new system exhibits lower mass flow of working fluid in its main cycle compared to the comparison system. The optimal refrigerant choice for the subcooling cycle is identified as RDR-1, further enhancing the overall efficiency of the proposed system.
