Abstract:Language and culture are linked closely,because language is the carrier of culture.So,it is the only way to achieve the goals of English teaching that helps students to develop the understanding of Chinese and foreign cultural differences and sensitivity.It is discussed in this article that the importance and necessity of cross-culture awareness and ways to train this capability under the new curriculum for English language teaching by comparing differences between Chinese and foreign culture,contacting the experience in English classroom teaching.

Abstract:Cross-cultural awareness can also be referred to as cultural awareness. Cross-cultural awareness is often described as sensitivity to cultural influences in language use and communication. In various cultures, cultivating learners' cultural awareness of cultural diversity can provide learners with knowledge and skills to communicate effectively. English teaching in China has always focused on teaching students grammar knowledge and oral English training, but it does not pay attention to introducing the differences of transnational cultures, which leads to students' ignorance of foreign cultures, which leads to the failure of communication. According to cognitive psychology, human cognitive process is the processing process of symbolic information system, and its theoretical goal is to explain and explain how people process information when completing cognitive activities. This paper analyzes the connotation of cross-cultural awareness, points out the goal and content of cross-cultural awareness training in basic English education, and then puts forward the main strategies of cross-cultural awareness cultivation in English education based on cognitive psychology.

Abstract:Language and culture are always closely mingled together and sophisticatedly interact with each other. Language is a main expression of culture; meanwhile language is a carrier of culture. There is no language without the influence of culture. Therefore, it is imperative to integrate culture education with language teaching, have students understand different culture through the introduction of cultural knowledge, comparison of cultural phenomenon and cultivation of students’ cultural awareness from the aspects of typical cultural difference including value, national psychological characteristics, thought pattern and connotation of vocabulary and idioms. When carrying out language teaching, teachers should provide students more materials and references related to western culture at the same time of exploring cultural points in textbooks, and designing more class activities, such as role-play and mini drama, comparison and contrast, holding parties on western festivals, etc. to widen students’ cultural horizon and thereby develop students’ cross-cultural communicative competence in order to get acclimatized to the new world that is increasingly globalized and internationalized. Abstract:Due to the advent of the information age, English, an internationally spoken language, is playing an increasingly important role in international communication. Language is a carrier of culture, so strengthening the cultural integration into reading teaching can improve students' language ability. At the high school level, reading and culture are two important components of learning English and deserve to be emphasized. Based on the new standards for high school English, this paper analyzes the characteristics and shortcomings of the current intercultural awareness cultivation by combining the new textbook in New Standard English of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, teachers' teaching design and teaching practice. After elaborating the importance of intercultural awareness in high school English learning, this paper further proposes corresponding teaching countermeasures to help cultivate students' intercultural awareness, improve students' cultural confidence, and provide a reference for students' comprehensive quality of students is provided.

Abstract:This article aims to study the cultural teaching of international Chinese education in the new era, exploring how to effectively teach Chinese language and cultivate students' cultural awareness in cross-cultural contexts. Through literature review and empirical research, this article analyzes the importance and challenges of cultural teaching, as well as effective cultural teaching strategies. The results of this study indicate that integrating cultural elements, cross-cultural communication, and practical activities can enhance students' language proficiency and cultural awareness. The research in this article has certain theoretical and practical significance for promoting the development of international Chinese language education in the new era.

Abstract:Background and Aim: Cultural competence plays a significant role in successful language education. Studies have shown that culturally sensitive pedagogy enables teachers to connect language to an accurate cultural context, preventing misappropriate language use. This study examined the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Materials and Methods: Data was collected using observation, interviews, and systematic reviews of academic journals. The classroom observation was selected because it provides first-hand data about how educators teach the Chinese language. The researchers also observed the impact of cultural awareness on teaching methods and outcomes. Interviews were conducted using open-ended questionnaires to obtain the benefits of cultural awareness and sensitivity in teaching the Chinese language. The systematic review helped in extracting data from the previous studies. The inductive and deductive thematic analyses were conducted based on the guidance from Byram’s intercultural competence framework. Results: The findings showed that cultural awareness and sensitivity are important in teaching the Chinese language because they improve critical cultural awareness, linguistic competency, and the ability of language educators to translate and communicate effectively. The various elements of linguistic competency that teachers demonstrate include comprehension, connotation, convention, and conditioning. Conclusion: Cultural awareness and sensitivity also help language educators empower learners and enhance their capacity to become better intercultural communicators. The paper suggests that Chinese language teachers should make regular visits to China to enhance their cultural awareness. Educators should also try various strategies, including double translation, comparison, and situational settings to integrate cultural awareness into their teachings.

Abstract:Although a consensus has been reached internationally on the importance of teaching home culture in foreign language education, this is still debated in China. By ignoring cultural factors, some regard English as simply a tool and believe linguistic skills to be the core of English teaching, especially in teaching English to non-English major students. Most, on the other hand, have recognized the intertwined relationship between language and culture, thus support intercultural language teaching. As Byram (1997) notes that both home culture and target culture are parts of the knowledge an “intercultural speaker” should possess. In spite of the growing emphasis that has been placed on intercultural communication competence (ICC) by policy makers in the context of “Chinese Culture Going Global Strategy”, it is neglected in practice and is still in secondary status. This phenomenon is especially widespread in integrating Chinese culture into college English courses and there are many problems and challenges in its implementing. Therefore, after discussing the rationales of involving Chinese culture in teaching college English, some suggestions are provided.

Abstract:Using Chinese language teaching in an engineering department as an example, this paper explores how language teaching can meet the challenges of globalisation and the advancement of technology by fulfilling its educational function as described in Byram's model of intercultural communicative competence. By adapting theories and practices from counselling psychology, the proposed curriculum focuses on emotions to help learners uncover emotional barriers that arise when confronted with differences. It will support learners in raising awareness and developing their capacity to negotiate differences, leading to more effective cooperation with others. The paper discusses the use of experiential exercises in the classroom. They include those developed in Chinese language pedagogy, namely the performed culture approach and those developed in humanistic psychotherapy, such as body psychotherapy. The aim is to help learners notice their own feelings, attitudes, and behaviour as well as the otherness of the other in the classroom. This approach is powerful because it is in the here and now. It utilises movements and different senses as well as cognition. It helps uncover barriers to intercultural communication hidden under the surface by making the unconscious conscious. Reflection is a key part of this process. Learners are expected to reflect on their own thinking and feelings and to make sense of the dynamics in the classroom. Learners are expected to develop reflexivity, subjectivity and intersubjective awareness while acquiring linguistic competency and social cultural rules of use.

Abstract:This article reviews teaching intercultural competence in the classroom with a group of homogeneous Chinese university students. This is explored through teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing in a way that changes Chinese students' thinking. It involves a change of cultural perspectives by placing the concept of 'the individual' at the heart of their learning and writing in English. This cultural change through alternative thinking strategies demands that Chinese students critically examine their collective traditions and beliefs that have otherwise influenced their assumptions in learning and in writing in English. This article is derived from teaching strategies that facilitate change through a biographical teaching method, which ensures a personal paradigm shift in the student towards becoming a global citizen.

Abstract:This paper briefly summarizes the general requirements of the new curriculum for the cultivation of cultural awareness in English public speaking courses.
