Abstract:The "shuttle effect" of polysulfides remains a significant challenge for the commercialization of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Herein, we present a separator modified with a bimetallic metal–organic framework (MOF), where ZIF-8′s high absorption capability, stemming from the suitable electronegativity of Zn, is enhanced by doping Cu into its cages to generate additional active sites. Cu-doped ZIF-8, synthesized at room temperature in water with a truncated cubic morphology, is coated onto glass fibers (GF) via vacuum filtration. This modified separator leverages the porous structure of Cu-ZIF-8 to suppress polysulfide migration while promoting homogeneous Li-ion transport. Consequently, the LSB with the Cu-ZIF-8/GF separator improves cycling performance over the conventional GF, achieving a twofold increase in initial capacity at 0.1C (1534mAh/g) and a 0.4 % per-cycle degradation rate at 0.5C after 100 cycles.
