Abstract:With the development of technology, the improvement of living standards, personalized designs that emphasize diversity and self-fulfillment are becoming more and more popular. As a result, designers must focus more on user needs. Traditionally, most of designers only focus on satisfying users’ functional needs and often ignore users’ emotional and psychological needs. This paper presents a design method that combines interaction design with axiomatic design. The proposed method first employs interaction design to acquire user needs with respect to three aspects: “people”, “products” and “environment” and then adopts axiomatic design to complete the conceptual design. The methodology is demonstrated and validated with a case study of children bicycle. The results show that the proposed method significantly enhances users’ experience of the product and meets more comprehensive user needs, especially in terms of users’ psychological and spiritual needs.

Abstract:The physiology functions such as sensory system,locomotory system of muscles and bones,and the cognitive system start to deteriorate when people get old.Research was done to categorize the consequences of the deteriorating visual,auditory,somatosensory,gustatory,olfactory systems and the reducing power and responsiveness.The ideas of different ways of designing products for elderly were generated according to the research.The key factors of designing a product for elderly were explained with example of thinking about a way for them to change a light bulb without any difficulties.

Abstract:Korean products are close to people life. People are not only in using a function, but also feeling a kind of emotion and enjoying a joy, life design, design living. Through some phenomenon, this paper analyses the design approach on Korean products and concludes the main reason why Korean commodities can be so fashionable throughout Asia and even the world by going through Korean products' design from four aspects: humanization design; cultural design; the hi-tech; man-machine design and emotional design, at the same time, it expounds the secret of South Korea's design's leading position from its scientific and technological content; cultural connotation, and brand construction. The same is true of the need for packaging opening design, because it not only meets pure functionality, but also embodies the emotional value of the open process. Studying the humanized packaging design of children’s products to better protect children’s health and safety, meet the psychological needs of children and aesthetic emotions, improve the quality of children’s products, promote the sale of goods, and it is very important for the prosperity of the socialist market economy. important. This article uses the basic functions of children’s products packaging to explore the safety of children’s food and drug packaging and the convenience of children’s product packaging, so that the design is more humane; from the visual characteristics of children at different ages, the final experiment is to investigate the cartoon image. Use, interactive design of life situation, bionic design and fun design to meet children’s psychological needs and aesthetic emotions, so as to realize the humanized design of children’s products packaging. Experimental research shows that parents and students’ satisfaction with the humanized design of children’s product packaging has reached 98%.

Abstract:The intelligent trends in the household environment result in the growing expectations for interactive experience. However, most traditional products do not meet the emotional demand of customers because of their rigid operation mode and aesthetic form. This paper is going to present a system combines potential control awareness of the user and anthropomorphic responsive behaviors of the objects to help creating brand new smart products. A smart lighting model is explored to explain specific details by two application scenarios: anthropomorphic affordances of perceiving control behavior and the idle state. The work aims at creating a new form of product that enrich the emotion value of daily commodities in household environments and enhance emotional communication with human.

Abstract:In order to cope with the aging and empty nest trend, improve the quality of life of the disabled elderly, and enhance the experience and satisfaction of home care products and services. This article investigates the daily status and needs of mildly disabled elderly people in the Chengdu & Chongqing region with methods such as questionnaire survey, in-depth interviews, natural observation, literature review, big data mining and analysis, design testing and evaluation ,and then analyze the characteristics of existing products in the market, and apply research on natural interaction technology and emotional design theory. Through theoretical application research, research, and experimental testing, the aging design strategy, methods, and principles of intelligent products were obtained. Through practice, a set of home-based elderly care service products and interface design solutions for the mildly disabled elderly in the Chengdu & Chongqing region were proposed. The aging design strategy can to some extent improve the experience and satisfaction of elderly people using intelligent products.

Abstract:Background With the development trend of healthy aging and intelligent integration, escort products have become a new means of healthy aging. Healthy old-age care pays attention to the convenience and informatization of life. To meet the needs, designers often design multiple accompanying product solutions, and it is very important to use reasonable evaluation methods to decide on the optimal solution. Purposes A new comprehensive evaluation method is proposed to reduce the subjectivity and one-sidedness of the selection process of intelligent escort product design solutions, and to make the decision more objective and reasonable. Such decisions can enhance the experience and naturalness of the elderly using intelligent products. Methods First, a large number of user interviews were analyzed using the grounded theory, gradually refine through theoretical coding, and abstracted with the design scheme evaluation index. Second, the idea of game-theoretic weighting is used to optimize a linear combination of subjective and objective weights to determine the final weights of each evaluation indicator. Finally, the evaluation and selection are completed based on the solution ranking determined by the approximate ideal solution ranking method (TOPSIS). It is applied for the selection of the elderly escort robot design, and the usability test is conducted using the PSSUQ to verify the selection results. Results A new comprehensive evaluation method can better complete the preferential selection of product design solutions for healthy aging escorts, and reduce the subjectivity and one-sidedness of the evaluation. Conclusion This method compensates for the reliance on personal experience in the selection of options, and improve the subjectivity of the evaluation index determination process and the deviation of index weighting. Improving the objectivity and scientificity of decision-making reduces the blindness of design and production. It also provides a theoretical reference for the research scholars of healthy aging companion products.

Abstract:As world's societal wellbeing is growing, in the near future the 'seniors condition' will force designers and companies to rethink the way they conceive, produce and sell products. This condition is fundamental for some strategic markets like the lighting domain. In this scenario, Human Centric Lighting (HCL) approach considers both seniors' biological aspects and technological advances to develop eco-efficient solutions that consider visual and non-visual aspects of light. This paper show the use of HCL as a new design approach able to help designers in the development of a wide range of lighting solutions; from the analysis of human conditions, this paper describes the research process used to design a HCL-Based System that perfectly meets seniors' needs.

Abstract:Multidisciplinary design research is a development trend of scientific research and design innovation. Through multi-angle and multi-dimensional design innovation, multidisciplinary teams help various fields solve complex design problems. This study demonstrates three cases that focus on the healthcare field. The age of the target user groups ranges from a five-year-old child to a seventy-year-old man. We explore different users’ needs, materialize design innovation through multidisciplinary collaboration. Three wellbeing and healthcare auxiliary demonstrations are designed and developed for busy white-collars, children who are afraid of visiting doctors, and the elderly who take long-term medication, which includes a smart wearable device, children’s diagnosis companion toy, and smart pillbox. These prototypes meet users’ health needs in different contexts through informal user testing sessions. Furthermore, they encourage a healthy lifestyle and show humanistic care to target users.

Abstract:Abstract This study introduces a novel product design strategy tailored for older people, premised on the physiological and psychological transformations associated with aging. It further develops an algorithm for designing age-appropriate products, utilizing a multilevel behavioral modeling approach. The algorithm employs a self-attention network and a recurrent neural network for serial data modeling and model training, respectively. Subsequently, this algorithm is harmonized with the initial design strategy to create a comprehensive product design scheme tailored to the user model. The efficacy of the proposed model is evaluated by comparing it with six other models using a designated test dataset. As a practical application, an online shopping application was redesigned specifically for older users. Comparative analysis between the original “Mobile Taobao” and the redesigned “Mobile Taobao Senior Edition” revealed that task completion times were significantly reduced from 162.64 seconds to 98.895 seconds and further to 63.745 seconds post-improvement. Additionally, user experience metrics such as flow, page layout, graphic harmony, page color, and text readability were enhanced by increments of 1.195, 0.47, 1.44, 1.07, 0.545, and 1.755, respectively. These results substantiate the effectiveness of the proposed design approach in enhancing the usability of age-friendly products. Ultimately, this research aims to pioneer new concepts and methodologies for the design of internet-based products that cater to the aging population, thereby enhancing their accessibility and user experience.

Abstract:An academiaindustry collaborative research project regarding design for elderly persons was initiated to investigate their living needs and potential design opportunities for new technologies and products. In the first year, a qualitative design approach for exploring their use of medication and health care devices was proposed. First, a user study was conducted using self-reporting, observation, and interview methods. Four personas representing different lifestyle patterns of elderly persons were then derived from the user study data. Finally, four designers were invited to present and synthesize their design ideas for those personas. Results showed that the user study could reveal considerable information and that the persona method was effective for designers to communicate their ideas and concentrate on user requirements. The study findings suggested that, for design for elderly persons, social and affective factors can be considered with decline in age-related abilities. (c) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:The breakthrough in artificial intelligence technology and the development of smart healthcare models have significantly improved modern healthcare services. However, the elderly population still faces numerous challenges. Therefore, the aim of this study is to enhance the interactive experience of elderly users and to propose effective design strategies through optimized design methods. Based on the INPD research methodology, the design process is divided into four stages. First, in the SET phase, product opportunity gaps are identified, followed by in-depth interviews and surveys to gather user needs. Second, the AHP method is used to establish a hierarchical model and judgment matrix to determine the subjective weights of each need, while the EWM method, based on survey data, determines the objective weights of each need. To ensure the scientific nature of the overall weight, a combined weighting approach is used, followed by a final prioritization of needs. Third, after translating user needs into design requirements, three design schemes are produced, and the TOPSIS method is used to calculate the weights and evaluate the optimal scheme. Fourth, the product opportunities are implemented and tested. The research results indicate that the proposed optimization design method is effective and not only reduces the barriers and challenges elderly users face when interacting with intelligent products but also enhances their overall experience. Moreover, it provides a practical approach to the sustainable development of smart healthcare. As an essential component of future healthcare services, the sustainability of smart healthcare will depend on a deep understanding of user needs and continuous optimization. The design strategy proposed in this study offers practical application value, improving elderly users' satisfaction while also providing insights that may be useful for other smart services.

Abstract:With the annual progress of these information technologies in a new era such as Mobile Internet and the Internet of Things, and the degree of population aging in our country is increasing by year as well. However, when the internet encounters a new batch of aging "fresh troops", there will be problems in elderly users such as the development differentiation between the information technologies and the information literacy, the differentiation between products function development and habits, the differentiation between information bombardment and mental cognition patterns, which indicates there is lack of information concern for the elderly group. Therefore, this paper is performed from the thought of synesthesia thinking, and elderly-oriented interpretation of the agedness Internet products is completed in terms of module planning, content presentation, visual identity, and color configuration, combining the elderly's characteristics variety of physiology, psychology and cognitive behavior. Finally, a set of effective and scientific design rules is proposed, which can provide an available reference for the further design research.

Abstract:With world population ageing, how to help seniors to adapt to technology life is an important issue. Technology is becoming life rather than resistance, because many of the technology applications are often accompanied by a lot of information to process. This makes the user interface to become an important bridge between human computer interactions. Especially the inconvenience caused by human ageing, these related issues from the cognitive and operational of products are derived. This study proposes a study of user interface design based on natural interaction to increase seniors’ usage intention. In the proposed contents, the Kinect sensor is used to retrieve seniors’ in-depth information in movements, thus the user interface of system can be operated by the gesture intuitively. In the framework of the system, in the first all, the morphology is applied to identify the features of a hand from depth values obtained from the sensor. Gesture is used to recognize operating behavior of users to implement the interactive action, and collision detection is applied to confirm effectiveness of operation. On the other hand, through interpretive structural model (ISM), each design element of interactive interface can be decomposed and realized, and the solution for target and direction of design problem is also proposed. At the meanwhile, the concept of affordance is conducted to the development of interface for graphic users that proposed in this study, and the design achievement contains operation and usability of intuition can further be acquired. Finally, based on the proposed methodology, an intuitive user interface of digital devices is constructed by Java programming language that allows for verifying the feasibility of user interface for seniors. Besides, the proposed method can be widely used to develop the user interface for various products.
