Abstract:The injury and emotions of life──How “advance-guard” changed through in Yu Hua’s writing Hua-ying Shie Min-yi Su College of Liberal Arts SUMMARY Yu Hua demonstrates inquiries and concerns on the life essences. Additionally, his works in the form of avant-garde literature, defamiliarized words and narrative perspectives make him a member of avant-garde writers. In his early short stories, he deals with the issue on how human beings face the life essences, death and absurdity. He also breaks through the traditional narrative measure. In 1980s, Yu Hua’s writing are different from his early advance-guard work, which had turned to folk position, and he listened gently in order to write how subalterns lived. In this period, Yu Hua’s work added the details of emotions, and the form became realistic. He wrote the life of subalterns in gentle and humor, but not on purpose to exaggerated the pain and hurt during the revolution in society, which reinforced the history in his novels. Until 21st century, Yu Hua’s novels emphasize on emotions and hurt. In “Brothers” (part one), he exaggerated both sides of injury and emotions, also the gaze of desire at the same time. In “Brothers” (part two), it’s the desire had overwhelmed people’s emotions. Yu Hua changed advance-guard from form to meanings through the increase and decrease of injury and emotions. This paper analyzes the injury and emotions in Yu Hua’s writings, finding out how “advance-guard” changed through his work. After the detailed analysis of injury and emotions, we can understand that Yu Hwa being a sensitive writer, and what he said about sympathy and understanding through his words.
