Abstract:In this article, we justify an online service provisioning (OSP) framework to provision virtualized and micro service (VMS) to users, which can achieve efficient, flexible, and scalable service provisioning. Compared to the onboard service provisioning framework, the system bottleneck shifts from the onboard computation limitation to the network capability and robustness in OSP, which the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) can ably support. First, the motivations of OSP and VMS per the current mobile application industry are identified. Then we investigate the capabilities of the SAGIN to enable the OSP framework, where the evolution of the terrestrial network, on-demand deployment of an aerial network, and global coverage with a satellite network are reviewed. Afterward, we elaborate on three major techniques of VMS provisioning in the OSP framework: application decomposition, control protocol design, and microservice placement/replacement. Finally, we design and implement a case study to demonstrate the efficacy of provisioning VMS in OSP.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problems that this paper attempts to solve are several key challenges in the current mobile application industry, which are mainly related to the limited computing power, storage capacity and power supply of mobile devices. Specifically: 1. **Explosive growth of mobile applications**: With the rapid increase in the number of mobile applications, the number of applications installed on users' devices is increasing, which not only takes up a large amount of storage space, but also consumes computing resources, resulting in slow device operation and a decline in user experience. 2. **Highly unbalanced use of mobile applications**: Although many applications are installed on users' devices, only a few are actually used frequently, and most of the time is concentrated on a few applications. Infrequently used applications occupy resources, affect the performance of other applications, and increase the complexity of maintenance and upgrading. 3. **Bloated mobile application services**: Mobile application developers keep adding new features and services to applications, but these features and services are often not fully utilized by users. Instead, they cause the application to become bloated, increasing the download and execution time and reducing the overall performance of the system. To solve the above problems, the paper proposes an Online Service Provision (OSP) framework, which provides virtualization and microservices (VMS) in real - time through the network instead of storing and running applications locally on the device. This framework can achieve efficient, flexible and scalable service provision, and its main advantages include: - **Dynamic on - demand service provision**: Users only need to request specific functions or services when needed, avoiding the need to download and maintain the entire application and reducing resource waste. - **Improve service running performance**: Microservices provided through the network can run on more powerful servers, improving the response speed and quality of services. - **Easy to maintain and upgrade**: Service management and upgrading are carried out in the cloud, simplifying the maintenance process, and users do not need to update applications frequently. In addition, the paper also explores how to use the capabilities of the Space - Air - Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN) to support the OSP framework. In particular, the combination of satellite networks, unmanned aerial vehicle networks and terrestrial networks can provide global coverage, high reliability and flexibility, thereby ensuring the network requirements of the OSP framework.
