Abstract:Positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) are noninvasive imaging modalities. While CT offers morphological images of the organ, PET provides a semiquantitative assessment of the function. The combination of anatomy and function provides valuable diagnostic information about internal organs. Therefore, PET/CT procedures have increased substantially in recent years. [ 1 ] PET uses the radiopharmaceutical Fluorine-18 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose to trace glucose metabolism. It has a half-life of 109 minutes and a positron emission of 630 keV. Fluorine-18 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT is a sensitive primary staging tool guiding patient care during cancer assessment. [ 2 ]
