Abstract:In this paper, we study the regularity of convex solutions to the Dirichlet problem of the homogeneous Monge-Ampere equation det D(2)u = 0. We prove that if the domain is a strip region and the boundary functions are locally uniformly convex and C-k+2,C-alpha smooth, then the solution is C-k+2,C-alpha smooth up to boundary. By an example, we show the solution may fail to be C-2 smooth if boundary functions are not locally uniformly convex. Similar results have also been obtained for the Dirichlet problem on bounded convex domains.

Abstract:We prove the uniqueness and nondegeneracy of least-energy solutions of a fractional Dirichlet semilinear problem in sufficiently large balls and in more general symmetric domains. Our proofs rely on uniform estimates on growing domains, on the uniqueness and nondegeneracy of the ground state of the problem in RN , and on a new symmetry characterization of the eigenfunctions of the linearized eigenvalue problem in domains which are convex in the x1 - direction and symmetric with respect to a hyperplane reflection.

Abstract:We investigate sufficient Hölder continuity conditions on Leray-Hopf (weak) solutions to the in unsteady Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions guaranteeing energy conservation. Our focus is on the half-space case with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. This problem is more technically challenging, if compared to the Cauchy or periodic cases, and has not been previously addressed. At present are known a few sub-optimal results obtained through Morrey embedding results based on conditions for the gradient of the velocity in Sobolev spaces. Moreover, the results in this paper are obtained without any additional assumption neither on the pressure nor the flux of the velocity, near to the boundary.

In this paper, the uniqueness of least energy solution of (0.1) is investigated. For $$n=2$$ , we prove the least energy solution of (0.1) is unique for $$2<q<\infty $$ provided it is locally uniformly convex. In particular, for $$q=+\infty $$ , we show the uniqueness of the least energy solution of (0.1) and find its relation to Santalò point.

Abstract:We provide convergence guarantees for the Deep Ritz Method for abstract variational energies. Our results cover nonlinear variational problems such as the p -Laplace equation or the Modica–Mortola energy with essential or natural boundary conditions. Under additional assumptions, we show that the convergence is uniform across bounded families of right-hand sides.

Abstract:The continuity of the kinetic energy is an important property of incompressible viscous fluid flows. We show that for any prescribed finite energy divergence-free initial data there exist infinitely many global in time weak solutions with smooth energy profiles to both the 3D deterministic and stochastic incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In the stochastic case the constructed solutions are probabilistically strong. Our proof introduces a new backward convex integration scheme with delicate selections of initial relaxed solutions, backward time intervals, and energy profiles. Our initial relaxed solutions satisfy a new time-dependent frequency truncated NSE, different from the usual approximations as it decreases the large Reynolds error near the initial time, which plays a key role in the construction.

Abstract:When a Leray--Hopf weak solution to the NSE has a singularity set $S$ of dimension $d$ less than $3$---for example, a suitable weak solution---we find a family of new $L^q L^p$ conditions that guarantee validity of the energy equality. Our conditions surpass the classical Lions--Ladyženskaja $L^4 L^4$ result in the case $d<1$. Additionally, we establish energy equality in certain cases of Type-I blow up. The results are also extended to the NSE with fractional power of the Laplacian below $1$.

Abstract:Abstract We establish existence results and energy estimates of solutions for a homogeneous Neumann problem involving the p-Laplace operator. The case of large dimensions, corresponding to the lack of compactness of W 1,p (Ω) in C 0 (Ω̅) is also considered. In particular, for a precise localization of the parameter, the existence of a non-zero solution is established, without requiring any asymptotic condition at zero or at infinity of the nonlinear term. In the case of (p − 1)-sublinear terms at the origin, we deduce the existence of solutions for small positive values of the parameter and we obtain that the corresponding solutions have smaller and smaller energies as the parameter goes to zero. Finally, a multiplicity result is obtained and concrete examples of applications are provided. A basic ingredient in our arguments is a recent local minimum theorem for differentiable functionals.

Abstract:The Ericksen-Leslie system is a fundamental hydrodynamic model that describes the evolution of incompressible liquid crystal flows of nematic type. In this paper, we prove the uniqueness of global weak solutions to the general Ericksen-Leslie system with a Ginzburg-Landau type approximation in a two dimensional periodic domain. The proof is based on some delicate energy estimates for the difference of two weak solutions within a suitable functional framework that is less regular than the usual one at the natural energy level, combined with the Osgood lemma involving a specific double-logarithmic type modulus of continuity. We overcome the essential mathematical difficulties arising from those highly nonlinear terms in the Leslie stress tensor and in particular, the lack of maximum principle for the director equation due to the stretching effect of the fluid on the director field. Our argument makes full use of the coupling structure as well as the dissipative nature of the system, and relies on some techniques from harmonic analysis and paradifferential calculus in the periodic setting.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we aim to establish global existence of weak solutions with higher regularity to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations under no-slip boundary conditions. Though Lions\cite{L1} and Feireisl\cite{F1} have established global weak solutions with finite energy under Dirichelet boundary conditions by making use of so called effective viscous flux and oscillation defect measure,Hoff has investigated global weak solutions with higher regularity in \cite{H1,Hof2} when the domain is either whole space or half space with Navier-slip boundary conditions, yet the existence theory of global weak solution with higher regularity under Dirichlet boundary conditions remains unknown. In this paper we prove that the system will admit at least one global weak solutions with higher regularity as long as the initial energy is suitably small when the domain is a 2D solid disc. This is achieved by exploiting the structure of the exact Green function of the disc to decompose the effective viscous flux into three parts, which corresponds to the pressure term, boundary term and the remaining term respectively. In order to control the boundary term, one of the key observations is to use the geometry of the domain which sucessfully to bound the integral of the effective viscous flux where $L^1$ norm is always unbounded.

Existence and compactness of global weak solutions of three-dimensional axisymmetric Ericksen-Leslie system

Abstract:In dimension three, the existence of global weak solutions to the axisymmetric simplified Ericksen-Leslie system without swirl is established. This is achieved by analyzing weak convergence of solutions of the axisymmetric Ginzburg-Landau approximated solutions as the penalization parameter $\varepsilon$ tends to zero. The proof relies on the one hand on the use of a blow-up argument to rule out energy concentration off the $z$-axis, which exploits the topological restrictions of the axisymmetry. On the other hand, possible limiting energy concentrations on the $z$-axis can be dealt by a cancellation argument at the origin. Once more, the axisymmetry plays a substantial role. We will also show that the set of axisymmetric solutions without swirl $(u,d)$ to the simplified Ericksen-Leslie system is compact under weak convergence in $L^\infty_tL^2_x\times L^2_tH^1_x$.

Abstract:In this work, we consider a mixed local and nonlocal Dirichlet problem with supercritical nonlinearity. We first establish a multiplicity result for the problem \begin{equation} Lu=|u|^{p-2}u+\mu|u|^{q-2}u~~\text{in}~~\Omega,~~~~~ u=0~~\text{in}~~\mathbb{R}^N\setminus\Omega,~~~ (0.1) \end{equation} where $L=-\Delta+(-\Delta)^s$ for $s\in(0,1)$ and $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain. Precisely, we show that problem (0.1) for $1<q<2<p$ has a positive solution as well as a sequence of sign-changing solutions with a negative energy for small values of $\mu$. Here $u$ can be either a scalar function, or a vector valued function so that (0.1) turns into a system with supercritical nonlinearity. Moreover, whenever the domain is symmetric, we also prove the existence of symmetric solutions enjoying the same symmetry properties. We shall also prove an existence result for the supercritical Hamiltonian system \begin{equation} Lu=|v|^{p-2}v,~~~~~~~ Lv=|u|^{d-2}u+\mu |u|^{q-2}u \end{equation} with the Dirichlet boundary condition on $\Omega$ where $1<q<2<p, d$. Our method is variational, and in both problems the lack of compactness for the supercritical problem is recovered by working on a closed convex subset of an appropriate function space.

Abstract:We analyze the Ericksen–Leslie system equipped with the Oseen–Frank energy in three space dimensions and introduce the concept of dissipative solutions for this system. It is shown that the expectation of a measure-valued solution, which was recently introduced by the author, is a dissipative solution. The concept of a dissipative solution itself relies on an relative energy inequality and avoids the description by parametrized measures. These solutions exist globally and fulfill the weak–strong uniqueness property. Additionally, we generalize the relative energy inequality for measure-valued as well as dissipative solutions fulfilling different nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and incorporate the influence of a temporarily constant electromagnetic field. Relying on this generalized energy inequality, we investigate the long-time behavior and show that all solutions converge for the large time limit to a certain steady state.

A regularity result for quasilinear elliptic systems with an equation of energy-type

Abstract:We study the continuity of weak solutions for quasilinear elliptic systems with source terms of critical growth arising from a transport-energy structure. The latter occurs frequently in connection with the first balance principles of physics for internal energy or entropy. Relying on the properties of diffusive measures, we prove a Hölder continuity result for these PDE systems in the case of vectorial p-growth and of low regularity features such as mixed boundary conditions on Lipschitz domains. This result is valid in all space dimensions. In the special case where the principal part is linear in the second order, we also study the higher integrability of the gradients and the uniqueness principle in the small. Finally two illustrations in the context of electrothermal coupling are considered, the stationary thermistor model and the Nernst-Planck equations of electrochemistry with variable temperature.
