Abstract:<p>We prove that measure-preserving symmetries of an <em>n</em>-dimensional differential system preserve its divergence and the divergence derivatives along the solutions. Also, we prove that measure-preserving reversibilities preserve odd-order divergence derivatives along the solutions, and that even-order derivatives are multiplied by −1. We apply such results to find all the area-preserving symmetries and reversibilities of planar Lotka-Volterra and Liénard systems.</p>

Abstract:We study some new dynamical systems where the corresponding piecewise linear flow is neither time reversible nor measure preserving. We create a dissipative system by starting with a finite polysquare translation surface, and then modifying it by including a one-sided barrier on a common vertical edge of two adjacent atomic squares, in the form of a union of finitely many intervals. The line flow in this system partitions the system into a transient set and a recurrent set. We are interested in the geometry of these two sets.

Abstract:We show that for a certain family of integrable reversible transformations, the curves of periodic points of a general transformation cross the level curves of its integrals. This leads to the divergence of the normal form for a general reversible transformation with integrals. We also study the integrable holomorphic reversible transformations coming from real analytic surfaces in C^2 with non-degenerate complex tangents. We show the existence of real analytic surfaces with hyperbolic complex tangents, which are contained in a real hyperplane, but cannot be transformed into the Moser-Webster normal form through any holomorphic transformation.

Abstract:In this paper, a result on the persistence of lower dimensional invariant tori in reversible systems is obtained under some weak non-degenerate conditions. Such a result can be applied to the case where normal frequencies are not simple and some of them may be zero. We also give an answer of a conjecture of M. B. Sevryuk (1986, “Reversible Systems,” Lecture Notes in Math., Vol. 1211, Springer-Verlag, New York/Berlin) about the existence of lower-dimensional invariant tori in resonant zones.

Abstract:This paper explores a relationship between invariants of certain group actions and the time-reversibility of two-dimensional polynomial differential systems exhibiting a $1:-1$ resonant singularity at the origin. We focus on the connection of time-reversibility with the Sibirsky subvariety of the center (integrability) variety, which encompasses systems possessing a local analytic first integral near the origin. An algorithm for generating the Sibirsky ideal for these systems is proposed and the algebraic properties of the ideal are examined. Furthermore, using a generalization of the concept of time-reversibility we study $n$-dimensional systems with a $1:\zeta:\zeta^2:\dots:\zeta^{n-1}$ resonant singularity at the origin, where $n$ is prime and $\zeta$ is a primitive $n$-th root of unity. We study the invariants of a Lie group action on the parameter space of the system, leveraging the theory of binomial ideals as a fundamental tool for the analysis. Our study reveals intriguing connections between generalized reversibility, invariants, and binomial ideals, shedding light on their complex interrelations.

Abstract:We examine smooth four-dimensional vector fields reversible under some smooth involution that has a smooth two-dimensional submanifold of fixed points. Our main interest here is in the orbit structure of such a system near two types of heteroclinic connections involving saddle-foci and heteroclinic orbits connecting them. In both cases we found families of symmetric periodic orbits, multi-round heteroclinic connections and countable families of homoclinic orbits of saddle-foci. All this suggests that the orbit structure near such connections is very complicated. A non-variational version of the stationary Swift – Hohenberg equation is considered, as an example, where such structure has been found numerically.

Abstract:We attempt to characterize irreversibility of a dynamical system from the existence of different forward and backward mathematical representations depending on the direction of the time arrow. Such different representations only exist for stochastic diffusion models so one has to face the justification of stochastic descriptions for physical systems which are inherently conservative. This representation can be shown to hold for conservative finite dimensional deterministic systems coupled to an infinite-dimensional conservative heat bath. We show that the heat bath acts on the finite-dimensional model by {\em state-feedback} and shifts its eigenvalues to make the system dissipative. Moreover, under a natural family of invariant measures the heat bath induces a white noise input acting on the system making it look like a true dissipative diffusion.

Abstract:We discuss a method for deriving differential equations for the prepotential and the mirror map arising from a pair of Calabi-Yau manifold. Examples with one Kahler modulus are given. Here we find that the differential equations we derive almost entirely characterize the prepotential and the mirror map in question. Some of the results here have been announced previously in [3].

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an equivariant degree based method to study bifurcation of periodic solutions (of constant period) in symmetric networks of reversible FDEs. Such a bifurcation occurs when eigenvalues of linearization move along the imaginary axis (without change of stability of the trivial solution and possibly without $1:k$ resonance). Physical examples motivating considered settings are related to stationary solutions to PDEs with non-local interaction: reversible mixed delay differential equations (MDDEs) and integro-differential equations (IDEs). In the case of $S_4$-symmetric networks of MDDEs and IDEs, we present exact computations of full equivariant bifurcation invariants. Algorithms and computational procedures used in this paper are also included.

Abstract:We give close formulas for the counting functions of rational curves on complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds in terms of special solutions of generalized hypergeometric differential systems. For the one modulus cases we derive a differential equation for the Mirror map, which can be viewed as a generalization of the Schwarzian equation. We also derive a nonlinear seventh order differential equation which directly governs the instanton corrected Yukawa coupling.

Abstract:We study the bifurcations of limit cycles in a class of planar reversible quadratic systems whose critical points are a center, a saddle and two nodes, under small quadratic perturbations. By using the properties of related complete elliptic integrals and the geometry of some planar curves defined by them, we prove that at most two limit cycles bifurcate from the period annulus around the center. This bound is exact.
Reflections to set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to determine reflections to bijective and non-degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation, by exploring their connections with their derived solutions. This is motivated by a recent description of left non-degenerate solutions in terms of a family of automorphisms of their associated left rack. In some cases, we show that the study of reflections for bijective and non-degenerate solutions can be reduced to those of derived type. Moreover, we extend some results obtained in the literature for reflections of involutive non-degenerate solutions to more arbitrary solutions. Besides, we provide ways for defining reflections for solutions obtained by employing some classical construction techniques of solutions. Finally, we gather some numerical data on reflections for bijective non-degenerate solutions associated with skew braces of small order.

Abstract:We show that any sequence of integers satisfying necessary Dold's congruences is realized as the sequence of fixed point indices of the iterates of an orientation-reversing homeomorphism of $\mathbb{R}^{m}$ for $m\geq 3$. As an element of the construction of the above homeomorphism, we consider the class of boundary-preserving homeomorphisms of $\mathbb{R}^{m}_{+}$ and give the answer to [Problem 10.2, Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 50 (2017), 643 - 667] providing a complete description of the forms of fixed point indices for this class of maps.

Abstract:Global bifurcation and spatio-temporal patterns of periodic solutions (with prescribed period) to second order reversible equivariant autonomous systems with commensurate delays are studied using the Brouwer/Leray–Schauder [Formula: see text]-equivariant degree theory. Here, [Formula: see text] is related to the reversal symmetry combined with the autonomous form of the system, [Formula: see text] reflects extra spacial symmetries of the system, and [Formula: see text] is related to the oddness of the right-hand side. Abstract results are supported by a concrete example with [Formula: see text] — the dihedral group of order 12.

Abstract:In this article, we analyze three classes of time-reversal of a Markov process with Gaussian noise on a manifold. We first unveil a commutativity constraint for the most general of these time-reversals to be well defined. Then we give a triad of necessary and sufficient conditions for the stochastic process to be time-reversible. While most reversibility conditions in the literature require knowledge of the stationary probability, our conditions do not, and therefore can be analytically checked in a systematic way. We then show that the mathematical objects whose cancellation is required by our reversibility conditions play the role of independent sources of entropy production. Furthermore, we give a geometric interpretation of the so-called irreversible cycle-affinity as the vorticity of a certain vector field for a Riemannian geometry given by the diffusion tensor. We also discuss the relation between the time-reversability of the stochastic process and that of an associated deterministic dynamics: its Stratonovitch average. Finally, we show that a suitable choice of a reference measure - that can be considered as a prior or a gauge, depending on the context - allows to study a stochastic process in a way that is both coordinate-free and independent of the prescription used to define stochastic integrals. When this reference measure plays the role of a gauge choice, we interpret our previous results through the lens of gauge theory and prove them to be gauge-invariant.

Reversal in the Stationary Prandtl Equations

Abstract:We demonstrate the existence of an open set of data which exhibits \textit{reversal} and \textit{recirculation} for the stationary Prandtl equations (data is taken in an appropriately defined product space due to the simultaneous forward and backward causality in the problem). Reversal describes the development of the solution beyond the Goldstein singularity, and is characterized by the presence of (spatio-temporal) regions in which $u > 0$ and $u < 0$. The classical point of view of regarding the system as an evolution in the tangential direction completely breaks down past the Goldstein singularity. Instead, to describe the development, we view the problem as a \textit{mixed-type, non-local, quasilinear, free-boundary} problem across the curve $\{ u = 0 \}$. In a well-chosen nonlinear and self-similar coordinate system, we extract a coupled system for the bulk solution and several modulation variables describing the free boundary. Our work combines and introduces techniques from mixed-type problems, free-boundary problems, modulation theory, harmonic analysis, and spectral theory. As a byproduct, we obtain several new cancellations in the Prandtl equations, and develop several new estimates tailored to singular integral operators with Airy type kernels.
