The Toxicity of Dimethyl Phthalate on Rats,Rabbits and Mice

S. Jian
Abstract:The acute, subchronic toxicity and mutagenesis studies of dimethyl phthalate on rats, rabbits and mice hadbeen reported. LD50 was 10000mg/kg in female rats and 12100mg/kg in male rats by oral, LD50 was 2000mg/kg infemale rats and male rats by dermal. The pestcide was not irritant to the skin of rabbits and had medium irritation tothe eyes of draize. The tests of Micronucleus and chromosome aberration in mice were all negative. The study ofsubchronic toxicity in rats fed dosage levels of 0, 1222, 3667, 11000mg/kg food with no adverse effects of bodyweight, food consumption, food efficiency, hematology and blood chemistry observed under the condition of thestudy at levels up to and including 11000mg/kg food. The increase in ratio of kidneys to body weight was observedin female rats of 11000mk/kg food. The increase in ratio of livers to body weight was observed in male rats of11000mk/kg food. Pathologic examination found the micro-inflammatory of liver and the swelling of a fewtubular epithelial cells of kidneys in both male and female rats of 11000mg/kg food. It was suggested that NELwas 393.67±26.98 mg/(kg·d) in female rats and 336.65±26.38 mg/(kg·d) in male rats.
