Abstract:In this paper we study the Wong–Zakai approximations given by a stationary process via the Wiener shift and their associated long term pathwise behavior for the stochastic partial differential equations driven by a white noise. We prove that the approximate equation has a pullback random attractor under much weaker conditions than the original stochastic equation. When the stochastic partial differential equation is driven by a linear multiplicative noise or additive white noise, we prove the convergence of solutions of Wong–Zakai approximations and the upper semicontinuity of random attractors of the approximate random system as the size of approximation approaches zero.

Abstract:In this paper, we build the Wong–Zakai approximation for Stratonovich-type stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion and obtain the quasi-sure convergence rate under Hölder norm by a rough path argument. As a corollary, we obtain the quasi-continuity of solutions of random rough differential equations driven by lifted martingales under a sequence of singular measures.

Abstract:In this article, we derive the convergence rate for the Wong–Zakai equation of some approximation of stochastic evolution equations with multiplicative noise. To be more precise, the diffusion coefficient in front of the noise is the multiplication operator, and, is therefore not bounded, a situation not treated in the literature. Since our motivation comes from problems in numerical ling, we consider a finite, high-dimensional problem approximating a stochastic evolution equation on a random time grid. By imposing suitable stability conditions on the drift term and the time grid, we achieve a convergence rate in the mean square of order min{1−δ,2−2γ} , for some 0<δ<1 and 0<γ<1/2 .

Abstract:We construct Wong--Zakai approximations of time--inhomogeneous stochastic differential equations with regime switching (RSSDEs), and provide a convergence rate. %Given a family of finite-variation processes $\{\mathcal{F}^{\lambda}\}_{\lambda\ge 0}$ that converge strongly to a standard Brownian motion $\mathcal{B}$, we construct pathwise approximations for regime-switching, time-inhomogeneous stochastic differential equations in the Wong-Zakai sense. Moreover, we determine the rate of strong convergence to the solutions of such regime-switching SDEs, showing that this rate is almost as good as that of $\{\mathcal{F}^{\lambda}\}_{\lambda\ge 0}$ to $\mathcal{B}$. In the proposed approximations, the standard Brownian motion driving the time-inhomogeneous RSSDEs is replaced by a family of finite--variation processes $\{\mathcal{F}^{\lambda}\}_{\lambda > 0}$. We show that if $\mathcal{F}^{\lambda}$ strongly converges to $\mathcal{B}$ at rate $\delta(\lambda)$, then the Wong--Zakai approximation strongly converges to the original solution of the time--inhomogeneous RSSDE at rate $\delta(\lambda) \lambda^{\varepsilon}$, for any $\varepsilon > 0$. This is the first paper on Wong--Zakai approximations for time--inhomogeneous RSSDEs, and significantly extends the counterparts for time--homogeneous SDEs without regime switching in R\"{o}misch and Wakolbinger (1985).

Abstract:In this paper we prove the Wong-Zakai approximation of probability density functions of solutions at a fixed time of rough differential equations driven by fractional Brownian rough path with Hurst parameter $H$ $(1/4 <H \leq 1/2)$. Besides rough path theory, we use Hu-Watanabe's approximation theorem in the framework of Watanabe's distributional Malliavin calculus. When $H=1/2$, the random rough differential equations coincide with the corresponding Stratonovich-type stochastic differential equations. Even for that case, our main result seems new.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the Stroock-Varadhan type support theorems for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) under Lyapunov conditions, which significantly improve the existing results in the literature where the coefficients of the SDEs are required to be globally Lipschitz and of linear growth. Our conditions are very mild to include many important models, e.g. Threshold Ornstein-Ulenbeck process, Stochastic SIR model, Stochastic Lotka-Volterra systems, Stochastic Duffing-van der Pol oscillator model, which have polynomial the coefficients. To obtain the support theorem, we prove a new Wong-Zakai approximation problem, which is of independent interest.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the smooth and stationary Wong-Zakai approximations for a class of rough differential equations driven by a geometric fractional Brownian rough path ω with Hurst index H ∈ ( 1 3 , 1 2 ] . We first construct the approximation ω δ of ω by probabilistic arguments, and then use the rough path theory to obtain the Wong-Zakai approximation for the solution on any finite interval. Finally, both the original system and the approximative system generate a continuous random dynamical systems φ and φ δ . As a consequence of the Wong-Zakai approximation of the solution, φ δ converges to φ as δ → 0 .

Abstract:In this paper, we build the equivalence between rough differential equations driven by the lifted $G$-Brownian motion and the corresponding Stratonovich type SDE through the Wong-Zakai approximation. The quasi-surely convergence rate of Wong-Zakai approximation to $G-$SDEs with mesh-size $\frac{1}{n}$ in the $\alpha$-H\"older norm is estimated as $(\frac{1}{n})^{\frac12-}.$ As corollary, we obtain the quasi-surely continuity of the above RDEs with respect to uniform norm.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the \textsl{Wong-Zakai approximation} result for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with fully local monotone coefficients perturbed by a multiplicative Wiener noise. This class of SPDEs encompasses various fluid dynamic models and also includes quasi-linear SPDEs, the convection-diffusion equation, the Cahn-Hilliard equation, and the two-dimensional liquid crystal model. It has been established that the class of SPDEs in question is well-posed, however, the existence of a unique solution to the associated approximating system cannot be inferred from the solvability of the original system. We employ a Faedo-Galerkin approximation method, compactness arguments, and Prokhorov's and Skorokhod's representation theorems to ensure the existence of a \textsl{probabilistically weak solution} for the approximating system. Furthermore, we also demonstrate that the solution is pathwise unique. Moreover, the classical Yamada-Watanabe theorem allows us to conclude the existence of a \textsl{probabilistically strong solution} (analytically weak solution) for the approximating system. Subsequently, we establish the Wong-Zakai approximation result for a class of SPDEs with fully local monotone coefficients. We utilize the Wong-Zakai approximation to establish the topological support of the distribution of solutions to the SPDEs with fully local monotone coefficients. Finally, we explore the physically relevant stochastic fluid dynamics models that are covered by this work's functional framework.

Abstract:We consider the long time behavior of Wong-Zakai approximations of stochastic differential equations. These piecewise smooth diffusion approximations are of great importance in many areas, such as those with ordinary differential equations associated to random smooth fluctuations; e.g. robust filtering problems. In many examples, the mean error estimate bounds that have been derived in the literature can grow exponentially with respect to the time horizon. We show in a simple example that indeed mean error estimates do explode exponentially in the time parameter, i.e. in that case a Wong-Zakai approximation is only useful for extremely short time intervals. Under spectral conditions, we present some quantitative time-uniform convergence theorems, i.e. time-uniform mean error bounds, yielding what seems to be the first results of this type for Wong-Zakai diffusion approximations.

Abstract:In this paper we study the solvability of backward doubly stochastic differential equations (BDSDEs for short) with polynomial growth coefficients and their connections with SPDEs. The corresponding SPDE is in a very general form, which may depend on the derivative of the solution. We use Wiener-Sobolev compactness arguments to derive a strongly convergent subsequence of approximating SPDEs. For this, we prove some new estimates to the solution and its Malliavin derivative of the corresponding approximating BDSDEs. These estimates lead to the verifications of the conditions in the Wiener-Sobolev compactness theorem and the solvability of the BDSDEs and the SPDEs with polynomial growth coefficients.

Abstract:We investigate the stochastic modified equation which plays an important role in the stochastic backward error analysis for explaining the mathematical mechanism of a numerical method. The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, we construct a new type of stochastic modified equation, which is a perturbation of the Wong--Zakai approximation of the rough differential equation. For a symplectic method applied to a rough Hamiltonian system, the associated stochastic modified equation is proved to have a Hamiltonian formulation. Second, the pathwise convergence order of the truncated modified equation to the numerical method is obtained by techniques in the rough path theory. Third, if increments of noises are simulated by truncated random variables, we show that the one-step error can be made exponentially small with respect to the time step size. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we first study the connection between mass-conserving SPDEs on a bounded domain and backward doubly stochastic differential equations, which is a new extension of nonlinear Feynman-Kac formula to mass-conserving SPDEs. Then the infinite horizon mass-conserving SPDEs and their stationary solutions are considered without monotonic conditions, while the Poincare inequality plays an important role. Finally, the existence and the stationarity to solutions of non-Lipschitz mass-conserving stochastic Allen-Cahn equations are obtained.
