Isolation and identification of Pro-biotic lactic acid bacteria from curd and in vitro evaluation of its growthinhibiting activities against Enteropathogenic bacteria of chicken

Abstract:: Pro-biotic are non-pathogenic micro-organisms that can interact with the gastro intestinalmicrobiota. They have numerous beneficial health effects that include enhancement of host immune response, anti-allergic, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory properties. Pro-biotics are capable of restoring the impaired micro-biome of a dysbiotic gut. They can beisolated from different environment. However, it is frequently suggested that Pro-biotics forhuman use should come from human sources. The objective of this study is to isolate andidentify pro-biotic Lactic Acid Bacteria from curd and evaluate in vitro, its growth inhibitionactivities against pathogenic bacteria. To meet the criteria for pro-biotic attributes, the isolatesare subjected to numerous standard morphological and biochemical test. These facts include Gram Staining, IMViC, Antibiotic susceptibility testing, Hemolytic and Antagonastic evaluation, Carbohydrate fermentation test etc. The lactobacillus strains survival were also assessed under conditions stimulating chicken gi tract. Therefore, resistance to antibiotics, resistance to low ph, resistance to bile salt and bile salt hydrolysis is performed. Finally the anti-microbial activities of lactobacillus isolates were tested against pathogenic bacteria which are isolated from stool sample of chicken by disc diffusion method. The isolates showed in vitro inhibitory zone against pathogenic bacteria. Here, the strains of lactic acid bacteria can be used as potential pro-biotic.
