Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) MXenes with slit-shaped ion diffusion channels have been hot candidates for flexible microsupercapacitors (MSCs), while the large-scale manufacturing of MSCs based on MXene-based films remains a challenge. Herein, different MXenes, Ti3C2Tx and V2CTx nanosheets were stacked and rolled into large-area double-MXenes hybrid films. Then, the large-area hybrid films can be efficiently processed into MSCs by the laser-cutting method. Embedding Ti3C2Tx nanosheets between V2CTx layers to impede the self-restacking of V2CTx and expand the interlayer spacing resulted in high capacitance up to 496F g−1 (2.3F cm−2) and good rate performance of the hybrid films. The assembled all-solid-state MSCs delivered a high energy density of 4.9 mWh g−1 at 350 mW g−1 and long cycling life. Moreover, serving as a power source unit, the MSCs can power a piezoresistive sensor to capture the changes in external pressures. The proposed rolling method for fabricating large-area double-MXenes hybrid films and MSCs was also applicable for other MXenes and 2D nanomaterials, which promoted their applications in flexible MSCs and portable electronic devices.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the problem of how to manufacture high-performance, large-scale flexible micro-supercapacitors (MSCs). Specifically, the authors focus on overcoming the challenges of large-scale manufacturing of MXene-based MSCs by stacking and rolling different types of MXene nanosheets (such as Ti3C2Tx and V2CTx) into large-area dual-MXene hybrid films. Additionally, the authors aim to improve the specific capacitance, rate performance, and energy density of the capacitors through the design of these hybrid films, making them more widely applicable in portable electronic devices. ### Main Research Questions: 1. **Large-scale Manufacturing Challenges**: How to efficiently prepare large-area MXene-based films and process them into high-performance micro-supercapacitors. 2. **Electrochemical Performance Enhancement**: How to improve the specific capacitance, rate performance, and energy density of the capacitors by designing and preparing dual-MXene hybrid films. 3. **Application Potential**: To verify the performance of the prepared MSCs in practical applications, particularly their ability to power piezoresistive sensors as power units. ### Solutions: - **Material Selection and Preparation**: Select Ti3C2Tx and V2CTx MXene nanosheets and prepare stable colloidal solutions through selective etching and interlayer delamination. - **Hybrid Film Preparation**: Mix the two types of MXene nanosheets, break the electrostatic balance through acid treatment to induce random stacking, form uniform hybrid deposits, and then prepare large-area dual-MXene hybrid films through rolling. - **Performance Optimization**: Embed Ti3C2Tx nanosheets as conductive spacers to prevent self-stacking of V2CTx nanosheets, expand interlayer spacing, and improve ion transport efficiency and material utilization. - **Device Fabrication and Testing**: Use laser cutting technology to process large-area hybrid films into micro-supercapacitors and conduct electrochemical performance tests to verify their high specific capacitance, long cycle life, and good mechanical flexibility. ### Experimental Results: - **Electrochemical Performance**: The hybrid film achieved a specific capacitance of up to 496 F/g and an energy density of 4.9 mWh/g, demonstrating excellent rate performance and long cycle life. - **Practical Application**: The assembled all-solid-state MSCs can power piezoresistive sensors to capture external pressure changes, showcasing their application potential in portable electronic devices. In conclusion, the paper successfully addresses the challenge of large-scale manufacturing of high-performance flexible micro-supercapacitors through innovative material design and preparation methods, providing new possibilities for their application in portable electronic devices.
