Abstract:Chromium (Cr) anomalous concentrations (Cr 3+ , Cr 6+ ) and other harmful elements occur in surface and underground waters, as well as in soils near the causative source. Multilevel wells were drilled, and soil samples were collected to conduct physicochemical, granulometric, diffraction, and X-ray fluorescence analyses. Additionally, water samples were collected from drilled wells, pre-existing wells, and artificial weirs for physicochemical analysis. Granular sandstone aquifer samples were also collected to determine porosity and permeability patterns through petrographic analysis. Chromium (Cr), the primary chemical element used in tanning, exceeds the total allowable limit (0.05 mg/L -1 ) for the research area. The results suggest that the highest concentration of pollutants is near the causative source, but there is a significant potential for contamination to spread to large areas through the confined aquifer and streams, ultimately reaching the rivers of the region.
