Using an interactive e-learning system to teach English communication skills for non-language major students at University of Engineering and Technology

Abstract:A major issue in teaching English is the lack of practice inside and outside the classroom. This study focuses on the use of an interactive e-learning system to teach English communication skills for students outside the class. The system was created specifically for member institutions of Vietnam National University, Hanoi by University of Languages and International Studies and OMT Company. The research was conducted with 40 first-year students of the Fast Track Program at University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. During six weeks, they were assigned a range of weekly tasks which encompassed the speaking, reading, listening and writing skills.  The data were collected by means of students' anonymous written reflections and document analysis of their online assignments. The results of this study would point out the strengths, weaknesses as well as the level of effectiveness of the e-learning system.
