Abstract:Since the topological properties of a b-metric space (which generalizes the concept of a metric space) seem sometimes counterintuitive due to the fact that the "open" balls may not be open sets, we review some aspects of these spaces concerning compactness, metrizability, continuity and fixed points. After doing so, we introduce new types of contractivities that extend the concept of Banach contraction. We study some of their properties, giving sufficient conditions for the existence of fixed points and common fixed points. Afterwards, we consider some iterative schemes in quasi-normed spaces for the approximation of these critical points, analyzing their convergence and stability. We apply these concepts to the resolution of a model of integral equation of Urysohn type. In the last part of the paper, we refine some results about partial contractivities in the case where the underlying set is a strong b-metric space, and we establish some relations between mutual weak contractions and quasi-contractions and the new type of contractivity.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on the application and extension of fixed - point theory in b - metric spaces. Specifically:
1. **Topological properties of b - metric spaces**: The paper first reviews the topological background of b - metric spaces, especially regarding compactness, metrizability, continuity, and the existence of fixed points of self - mappings. Since the "open" balls in b - metric spaces may not be open sets, these properties sometimes seem counter - intuitive and thus require careful study.
2. **New types of contractions**: The paper introduces new types of contractions, which extend the concept of Banach contractions. The author studies the properties of these new types of contractions and gives sufficient conditions for the existence of fixed points and common fixed points. These new types of contractions include many other types of contractions already in the literature, such as the quasi - contractions defined by Cirić, as well as Kannan, Chatterjea, and other self - mappings.
3. **Convergence and stability of iterative methods**: The paper analyzes the convergence and stability of the Noor algorithm and the SP iterative process in quasi - normed spaces for approximating fixed points. These iterative methods are of great significance in numerical calculations, especially in solving various equations.
4. **Application to Urysohn integral equations**: The paper applies the above - mentioned theories to solve a class of Urysohn - type integral equations. The Urysohn integral equation is a typical nonlinear integral equation, and depending on the integral kernel, the equation may not have an explicit exact solution. The paper uses the iterative method of fixed - point approximation to find solutions to this type of equation.
5. **Partial contraction in strong b - metric spaces**: The paper also discusses the properties of partial contractions in strong b - metric spaces and establishes some relationships between mutually weakly contracting, partial contracting, and quasi - contracting.
Overall, this paper aims to extend the application of fixed - point theory in a broader b - metric space by introducing new types of contractions and iterative methods and to provide new tools for solving practical problems.
