Abstract:For every frame spectral measure $ \mu $, there exists a discrete measure $ \nu $ as a frame measure. Since if $ \mu $ is not a frame spectral measure, then there is not any general statement about the existence of frame measures $ \nu $ for $ \mu $, we were motivated to examine Bessel and frame measures. We construct infinitely many measures $ \mu $ which admit frame measures $ \nu $, and we show that there exist infinitely many frame spectral measures $ \mu $ such that besides having a discrete frame measure, they admit continuous frame measures too.
Frame-like Fourier expansions for finite Borel measures on $\mathbb{R}$

Abstract:It is known that if a finite Borel measure $\mu$ on $[0,1)$ possesses a frame of exponential functions for $L^{2}(\mu)$, then $\mu$ is of pure type. In this paper, we prove the existence of a class of finite Borel measures $\mu$ on $[0,1)$ that are not of pure type that possess frame-like Fourier expansions for $L^{2}(\mu)$. We also show properties and classifications of certain measures possessing this type of Fourier expansion. Additionally, we establish a frame-like Fourier expansion for $L^{2}(\mu)$ where $\mu$ is a singular Borel probability measure on $\mathbb{R}$. Finally, we show measures $\mu$ on $[0,1)$ that possess these frame-like Fourier expansions for $L^{2}(\mu)$ have all $f\in L^{2}(\mu)$ as $L^{2}(\mu)$ limits of harmonic functions with frame-like coefficients. We also discuss when the inner products of these expansions coincide with model spaces and subspaces of harmonic functions on the disk.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue the study in our previous work Beurling dimenison and self-similar measures [ J. Funct. Anal. 274 (2018) 2245–2264]. We analyze the Beurling dimension of Bessel sequences and frame spectra of self-affine measures on Rd . Unlike the case for the self-similar measures, it is very difficult to obtain a general expression for the dimension of self-affine sets. This implies that the Hausdorff dimension may be not a good candidate that controls the Beurling dimension in general. Instead, we find that the pseudo Hausdorff dimension proposed by He and Lau [ Math. Nachr. 281 (2008) 1142–1158] can be a good candidate that can control the Beurling dimension. With the help of the pseudo Hausdorff dimension, we obtain the upper bounds of the Beurling dimension of Bessel sequences. Under suitable condition, we give the lower bound of the Beurling dimension of frame spectra of self-affine measures on Rd . Some examples are given to illustrate our theory.

Abstract:Motivated by the existence problem of Fourier frames on fractal measures, we introduce Bessel and frame measures for a given finite measure on Rd\mathbb {R}^d, as extensions of the notions of Bessel and frame spectra that correspond to bases of exponential functions. Not every finite compactly supported Borel measure admits frame measures. We present a general way of constructing Bessel/frame measures for a given measure. The idea is that if a convolution of two measures admits a Bessel measure, then one can use the Fourier transform of one of the measures in the convolution as a weight for the Bessel measure to obtain a Bessel measure for the other measure in the convolution. The same is true for frame measures, but with certain restrictions. We investigate some general properties of frame measures and their Beurling dimensions. In particular, we show that the Beurling dimension is invariant under convolution (with a probability measure) and under a certain type of discretization. Moreover, if a measure admits a frame measure, then it admits an atomic one, and hence a weighted Fourier frame. We also construct some examples of frame measures for self-similar measures.

Abstract:It is known that the Beurling dimensions of spectra of the self-similar measure are bounded by the Hausdorff dimension of its support and the bound can be attained. The relationship is also true for the self-affine case. But we are not sure whether the upper bound can be attained, except a few particular cases with fine digit sets. In this paper, based on a subtle relationship between the self-similar set in dimension one and the projection of the candidate spectrum, we determine the exact Beurling dimension for a class of spectra of the Sierpinski-type spectral measures. It is strictly less than the Hausdorff dimension of the support for the measure, which is in stark contrast with the self-similar case.

Abstract:We prove that the Beurling dimensions of the spectra for a class of Moran spectral measures are in 0 and their upper entropy dimensions. Moreover, for such a Moran spectral measure μ, we show that the Beurling dimension for the spectra of μ has the intermediate value property: let t be any value in 0 and the upper entropy dimension of μ, then there exists a spectrum whose Beurling dimension is t. In particular, this result settles affirmatively a conjecture involving spectral Bernoulli convolution in Fu et al. (2018) [20]. Furthermore, we prove that the set of the spectra whose Beurling dimensions are equal to any fixed value in 0 and dim ‾ e μ has the cardinality of the continuum.

Abstract:Given a relatively compact $\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}$ of Lebesgue measure $|\Omega|$ and $\varepsilon > 0$, we show the existence of a set $\Lambda \subseteq \mathbb{R}$ of uniform density $D (\Lambda) \leq (1+\varepsilon) |\Omega|$ such that the exponential system $\{ \exp(2\pi i \lambda \cdot) \mathbf{1}_{\Omega}: \lambda \in \Lambda \}$ is a frame for $L^2 (\Omega)$ with frame bounds $A |\Omega|, B |\Omega|$ for constants $A,B$ only depending on $\varepsilon$. This solves a problem on the frame bounds of an exponential frame near the critical density posed by Nitzan, Olevskii and Ulanovskii. We also prove an extension to locally compact abelian groups, which improves a result by Agora, Antezana and Cabrelli by providing frame bounds involving the spectrum.

Existence and Exactness of Exponential Riesz Sequences and Frames for Fractal Measures

Abstract:We study the construction of exponential frames and Riesz sequences for a class of fractal measures on ℝd generated by infinite convolution of discrete measures using the idea of frame towers and Riesz-sequence towers. The exactness and overcompleteness of the constructed exponential frame or Riesz sequence is completely classified in terms of the cardinality at each level of the tower. Using a version of the solution of the Kadison-Singer problem, known as the Rϵ-conjecture, we show that all these measures contain exponential Riesz sequences of infinite cardinality. Furthermore, when the measure is the middle-third Cantor measure, or more generally for self-similar measures with no-overlap condition, there are always exponential Riesz sequences of maximal possible Beurling dimension.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a multiplication operator representation of bounded self-adjoint operators T on a Hilbert space H such that -- is a frame for H, for some -- . We state a necessary condition in order for a frame -- to have a representation of the form -- . Frame sequence -- with the synthesis operator U, have also been characterized in terms of the behavior spectrum of -- . Abstract:We introduce a generalization for bounded geometry that we call bounded scale measure. We show that bounded scale measure is a coarse invariant unlike bounded geometry. We then show equivalent definitions for spaces with bounded scale measure and show other properties that spaces with bounded scale measure satisfy. From there, we generalize property A from uniformly discrete metric spaces to large scale spaces with bounded geometry. Lastly, we construct a definition for property A for large scale spaces with bounded scale measure and show that this definition of property A is a coarse invariant.

Operator orbit frames and frame-like Fourier expansions

Abstract:Frames in a Hilbert space that are generated by operator orbits are vastly studied because of the applications in dynamic sampling and signal recovery. We demonstrate in this paper a representation theory for frames generated by operator orbits that provides explicit constructions of the frame and the operator when the operators are not surjective. It is known that the Kaczmarz algorithm for stationary sequences in Hilbert spaces generates a frame that arises from an operator orbit where the operator is not surjective. In this paper, we show that every frame generated by a not surjective operator in any Hilbert space arises from the Kaczmarz algorithm. Furthermore, we show that the operators generating these frames are similar to rank one perturbations of unitary operators. After this, we describe a large class of operator orbit frames that arise from Fourier expansions for singular measures. Moreover, we classify all measures that possess frame-like Fourier expansions arising from two-sided operator orbit frames. Finally, we show that measures that possess frame-like Fourier expansions arising from two-sided operator orbits are weighted Lebesgue measure with weight satisfying a weak $A_{2}$ condition, even in the non-frame case. We also use these results to classify measures with other types of frame-like Fourier expansions.

Abstract:A measure of quality of a control system is a quantitative extension of the classical binary notion of controllability. In this article we study the quality of linear control systems from a frame-theoretic perspective. We demonstrate that all LTI systems naturally generate a frame on their state space, and that three standard measures of quality involving the trace, minimum eigenvalue, and the determinant of the controllability Gramian achieve their optimum values when this generated frame is tight. Motivated by this, and in view of some recent developments in frame-theoretic signal processing, we propose a natural measure of quality for continuous time LTI systems based on a measure of tightness of the frame generated by it and then discuss some properties of this frame-theoretic measure of quality.

The entanglement criteria based on equiangular tight frames

Abstract:Finite tight frames play an important role in miscellaneous areas, including quantum information theory. Here we apply a class of tight frames, equiangular tight frames, to address the problem of detecting the entanglement of bipartite states. Here we derive some entanglement criteria based on positive operator-valued measurements built from equiangular tight frames. We also present a class of entanglement witnesses based on the equiangular tight frames. At last, we generalize the entanglement criterion for bipartite systems to multipartite systems.

Abstract:A probabilistic frame is a Borel probability measure with finite second moment whose support spans . A Parseval probabilistic frame is one for which the associated matrix of second moment is the identity matrix in . Each probabilistic frame is canonically associated to a Parseval probabilistic frame. In this article, we show that this canonical Parseval probabilistic frame is the closest Parseval probabilistic frame to a given probabilistic frame in the 2–Wasserstein distance. Our proof is based on two main ingredients. On the one hand, we show that a probabilistic frame can be approximated in the 2–Wasserstein metric with (compactly supported) finite frames whose bounds can be controlled. On the other hand, we establish some fine continuity properties of the function that maps a probabilistic frame to its canonical Parseval probabilistic frame. Our results generalize similar ones for finite frames and their associated Parseval frames.
