Abstract:BACKGROUND:Hard palate mucosa serves as a main donor material in periodontal plastic surgery and its thickness is crucial for the surgical outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the thickness of hard palate mucosa in Han population, and analyze the consistency between cone-beam CT image analysis and trans-gingival probing method. METHODS: A total of 30 Han volunteers (300 teeth) were recruited, and the thickness of hard palate mucosa was measured using cone-beam CT image analysis or trans-gingival probing method, to analyze their consistency. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The two methods showed a higher consistency in the thickness of hard palate mucosa at the cuspid, first and second premolars as well as first and second molars. The thickness of the hard palate mucosa related to the distance from the gingival margin and tooth position, the thickness from the canine region to the second premolar region thickening gradually, and became the thickest at the second molar, and the thinnest at the cuspid. This study for the first time analyzed the thickness of hard palate mucosa in Chinese Han population, and confirmed there is a high consistency between cone-beam CT image analysis and trans-gingival probing method.
[Evaluation of Palatal Bone Thickness in Adults with Normal Occlusion for Orthodontic Miniscrews Placement].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the palatal bone thickness in adult with normal occlusion.METHODS:The cone beam computerized tomography records of 32 adults with normal occlusion (16 males and 16 females), mean age (30.1 ± 6.5) years, were used to measure the bone thickness at midpalatal area and the right and left palatal sides. Coronal slices at 3 mm intervals were generated. Slice 1 was the coronal slice through the posterior border to the incisive foramen, while Slice 7 was the coronal slice 18 mm away from the incisive foramen. At each coronal slice, the midpalatal sites were Site M and the sites on the exterior margin of the hard palatal were Site D. Four equally divided parts on the line linking Site M to Site D were named Site A, B, C from the interior to the exterior respectively. Palatal bone thickness were measured at these sites.RESULTS:Significant differences were noted from Slice 1 to Slice 7, the bone thickness of palate tended to decrease from the front to the back. The thickest site at hard palatal was 12.6 mm, locating at Site D of Slice 1, while the thinnest site was 2.7 mm, locating at Site B of Slice 7. The palatal bone thickness ranged from 10.5 mm (maximum) to 5.8 mm (minimum) at Slice 2 and Slice 3. No statistical significance was found between the left and right sides (P > 0.05).CONCLUSIONS:The favorable sites for miniscrew placement were the anterior region of the hard palate in adult. The length of miniscrew ranged from 5 mm to 10 mm can be placed from 6 mm posterior to the incisive foramen.
Evaluation of the palatal soft tissue thickness by cone-beam computed tomography

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: The purposes of this study were to measure the palatal soft tissue thickness at popular placement sites of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and evaluate the age, gender, and positional differences in this parameter.METHODS: The study sample consisted of 23 children (10 boys and 13 girls; mean age, 10.87 ± 1.24 years; range, 6.7 to 12.6 years) and 27 adults (14 men and 13 women; mean age, 21.35 ± 1.14 years; range, 20.0 to 23.8 years). Nine mediolateral and nine anteroposterior intersecting reference lines were drawn on CBCT scans of the 50 subjects, and the resultant measurement areas were designated according to their mediolateral (i.e., lateral, medial, and sutural) and anteroposterior (i.e., anterior, middle, and posterior) positions. Repeated-measures analysis of variance was performed to analyze intragroup and intergroup differences.RESULTS: No significant age and gender differences were found (p = 0.309 and 0.124, respectively). Further, no significant anteroposterior change was observed (p = 0.350). However, the lateral area presented the thickest soft tissue whereas the sutural area had the thinnest soft tissue (p < 0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Clinical selection of the placement sites of TADs should be guided by knowledge of the positional variations in the palatal soft tissue thickness in addition to other contributing factors of TAD stability.
Assessment of available sites for palatal orthodontic mini-implants through cone-beam computed tomography

Abstract:Objective: To measure the palatal thickness of both hard and soft tissues and to determine safe regions for the placement of mini-implants. The influences of sex and age on palatal thickness were also examined. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography images of 30 patients (12 males, 18 females), including 15 adults and 15 adolescents, were used in this study. The thicknesses of palatal hard tissue, soft tissue, and hard+soft tissues were measured at the coronal planes of first premolars, second premolars, first molars, and second molars (P1, P2, M1, and M2 planes, respectively). Results: The hard tissue was thickest at the P1 plane, followed by at the P2, M1, and M2 planes, while the thickness of soft tissue was similar among the four planes. The trends in the changes of palatal thickness from midline to the lateral sides (V-pattern) were similar for the four planes. Palatal thickness was influenced by sex, age, and their interaction. Mapping of recommended and optimal sites for palatal mini-implants was accomplished. Conclusions: Sex and age factors could influence palatal thickness. Therefore, the findings might be helpful for clinicians in guiding them to choose the optimal sites for palatal mini-implants.
Evaluation of Palatal Thickness for the Placement of MARPE Device among a Cohort of Iraqi-Kurdish Population: A Retrospective CBCT Study

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare palatal thickness in adults for the placement of mini-implants for miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) appliances using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in a sample of Iraqi-Kurdish people. Materials and methods: CBCT scans from 68 Kurdish patients, aged between 18 and 30 years, were assessed retrospectively. Of these, 37 were males and 31 were females. The measurements were performed at 3 mm from the mid-palatal suture. T-zone was selected for the anterior points, at the level of the palatal cusps of 2nd premolars, and the posterior point at the level of mesio-palatal cusps of 1st molars bilaterally. Palatal thickness of males and females bilaterally, as well as anterior and posterior areas, were measured and compared. An independent t-test was applied for comparison for normally distributed data, and the Mann-Whitney test was utilized for nonnormally distributed data. Additionally, Bonferroni correction was implemented for p-value adjustment. Results: The mean palatal thickness at the anterior area was 6.06 mm for males, 6.17 mm for females on the right side, 5.94 mm for males, and 5.99 mm for females on the left side. The mean palatal thickness at the posterior area was almost the same for both genders (4.40 mm for males and 4.44 mm for females) on the right side, 4.35 mm for males, and 4.54 mm for females on the left side. Statistically, no significant difference was recorded between males and females, as well as right and left sides in both anterior and posterior regions; however, a very highly statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) was recorded when comparing total thickness, including both hard and soft tissue, between anterior and posterior regions. Conclusions: CBCT proves a highly effective modality in assessing palatal thickness and suggesting ideal locations for orthodontic mini-screw placement. Our examination of palatal thickness in a sample of Iraqi-Kurdish individuals revealed no statistical difference between genders or sides, but significant variations were noted between anterior and posterior thicknesses. Comprehensive clinical and pre-expansion CBCT evaluations are crucial for precisely determining the optimal placement of MARPE devices in each patient, ensuring successful outcomes.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to investigate the cortical bone thickness of the inter-dental area of both jaws for orthodontic miniscrew placement. The cone-beam computerized tomography images of 32 non-orthodontic adults with normal occlusion were taken to measure the cortical bone thickness in both jaws. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the differences in cortical bone thickness. Buccal cortical bone in the mandible was thicker than that in the maxilla. In the maxilla, cortical bone thickness was thicker in the buccal side than in the palatal side. Buccal cortical bone thickness in the mandible was thickest at the site distal to the first molar, and in the maxilla it was thickest at the site mesial to the first molar, while in the palatal side of maxilla it was thickest at the site mesial to the second premolar. The changing pattern of cortical bone thickness varies at different sites. In the buccal side of maxilla, the thinnest cortical bone thickness was found to be at 4 mm level from the alveolar crest, while the thickest was at 10 mm level (except for the site mesial to the first premolar). The buccal cortical bone thickness at the sites mesial or distal to the first molar in the mandible and palatal cortical bone thickness of maxilla tended to increase with increasing distance from the alveolar bone.

This is usually assessed using two-dimensional radiographs. The purpose of this study was to use a three-dimensional digital imaging measurement method to provide information on palatal bone volume and bone thickness and to make recommendations on the optimal and safe insertion site and angle for palatal mini-implants.

Palatal Bone Thickness of MSE Implantation area in Adult Patients with Skeletal Class Ⅲ Malocclusion: A Cone-beam Computed Tomographic Study

Abstract:Background: Analyze the palatal bone thickness of maxillary skeletal expander (MSE) implantation area in adult patients with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion based on Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data, and to provide a reference for the implantation of the miniscrew.Methods: A total of 80 adult patients (40 M, 40 F) with an normal angle before treatment were divided into two groups; skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion group and skeletal Ⅰ malocclusion group according to sagittal facial type, with 40 patients in each group, with a male to female ratio of 1: 1. CBCT scanner was used to obtain DICOM data from all patients.The palatal bone thickness was measured at 45 sites with MIMICS 21.0 and SPSS 22.0 was employed for statistical analysis. The bone thickness of different regions of the palate in the same group was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) method; Fisher’s least significant difference (LSD)-t method was used for comparison in pairs, and an independent sample t-test was employed to test the difference of bone thickness in the same area between the two groups.Results: (1) There was no significant difference among the anterior, middle, and posterior regions of the midline area in patients with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion (P > 0.05). Palatal bone thickness decreased gradually from front to back in the middle and lateral areas in both groups (P < 0.001). (2) The bone thickness of the anterior, middle, and posterior regions of the two groups gradually decreased from the middle area to the parapalatine region. (3) The palatal bone were significant thinner in the area 9.0 mm before the transverse palatine suture in midline area, 9.0 mm before and after the transverse palatine suture in the middle area, and 9.0 mm after the transverse palatine suture in the lateral area.Conclusion: (1) The palatal bone of patients with class Ⅲ malocclusion was thinner in some areas, so the MSE implant anchorage position could be moved forward appropriately. (2) The thin palatal bone increased the risk of MSE anchorage screw penetrating nasal mucosa and even inferior turbinate. Patients should be given a more precise and personalized implantation scheme based on factors such as palatine bone thickness and palatal morphology.
The anatomical evaluation of the dental arches using cone beam computed tomography - an investigation of the availability of bone for placement of mini-screws

Abstract:Objective To assess the amount of maxillary and mandibular inter-radicular bone mass and determine the most reliable mini-screw placement sites. Materials and methods Retrospective Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images of 40 Angle Class I subjects (20 females, 20 males, aged 16 to 32) were obtained. Measurements on the buccal (BI), medial (MI) and lingual (LI) sides of the inter-radicular spaces were taken at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 mm from the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) in an apical direction. Results The male and female BI scores ranged from 2.99±0.73 mm to 6.18±1.03 mm and 2.69±0.84 mm to 6.21±1.22 mm respectively. The male and female MI scores ranged from 1.36±0.38 mm to 4.50±0.99 and 1.53±0.66 to 4.77±1.99 mm respectively. LI scores ranged from 2.37±0.70 to 6.47±1.0 mm and 2.45±0.56 mm and 6.66±1.33 mm respectively. In both maxillary and mandibular arch, the inter-radicular space increased in the apical direction except for the buccal and medial inter-radicular spaces between the maxillary first and second molars. Conclusion The medial inter-radicular spaces are the decisive parameter for mini-screw placement. In the maxillary arch, regions between central and lateral incisors, lateral incisor and canine, first and second molars are not viable for mini-screw insertion. The residual inter-radicular regions are proper for implantation at 3 mm above the CEJ. In the mandible, the regions between incisors and canines are too narrow for mini-screw insertion and the reliable sites for mini-screws are regions between premolars, molars or first molar and second premolar at 2 mm below the CEJ.

The purpose of the study was to analyse the palatal bone thickness in the of MSE implantation in patients with skeletal class III malocclusion. Methods A total of 80 adult patients (40 males, 40 females) with an average angle before treatment were divided into two groups, the skeletal class III malocclusion group and the skeletal I malocclusion group, based on sagittal facial type. Each group consisted of 40 patients, with a male to female ratio of 1:1. A cone-beam computed tomography scanner was employed to obtain DICOM data for all patients. The palatal bone thickness was measured at 45 sites with MIMICS 21.0 software, and SPSS 22.0 software was employed for statistical analysis. The bone thickness at different regions of the palate in the same group was analysed with one-way repeated measures ANOVA. Results Palatal bone thickness was greater in the middle region of the midline area ( P < 0.01), while the thickness in the middle and lateral areas in both groups was generally lower ( P < 0.001). The bone in the anterior, middle, and posterior regions of the two groups became increasingly thin from the middle area toward the parapalatine region. The palatal bone was significantly thinner in the area 9.0 mm before the transverse palatine suture in the midline area, 9.0 mm before and after the transverse palatine suture in the middle area, and 9.0 mm after the transverse palatine suture in the lateral area. Conclusion The palatal bone was thinner in patients with class III malocclusion than in patients with class I malocclusion, with significant differences in some areas. The differences in bone thickness should be considered when MSE miniscrews are implanted. The anterior and middle palatal areas are safer for the implantation of miniscrews, while the thinness of the posterior palatal bone increases the risk of the miniscrews falling off and perforating.
Evaluation of the Implant Sites of Palatal Implants Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the vertical bone height and the bone density of the palate for implants placement using cone beam CT(CBCT) and to provide references to the safe and stable placement of palatal implants.METHODS:Three-dimensional reformatting images were reconstructed with the selected CBCT scanning data of 34 patients aged 18 to 35 yeras, by means of EZ implant software. The vertical bone height was measured at 20 interesting sites of palate. Bone density was measured at 10 sites that could support 3.0 mm long implants. The data of the vertical bone height and bone density were analyzed by K-means cluster analysis.RESULTS:According to the cluster analysis results, the 10 sites were classified into 3 clusters. There were statistical differences among these three clusters in bone height and bone density (P < 0.05). The LSD result showed that the greatest mean value of vertical bone height was obtained in cluster 2, followed by cluster 1 and cluster 3; the highest bone density was founded in cluster 3, followed by cluster 1 and cluster 2.CONCLUSIONS:Evaluation of the sites for palatal implant placement with cone beam CT would be helpful in safe and stable implantation.
Applied Anatomic Site Study of Palatal Anchorage Implants Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Abstract:Aim The purpose of this study was to conduct quantitative research on bone height and bone mineral density of palatal implant sites for implantation, and to provide reference sites for safe and stable palatal implants.Methodology Three-dimensional reformatting images were reconstructed by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in 34 patients, aged 18 to 35 years, using EZ Implant software. Bone height was measured at 20 sites of interest on the palate. Bone mineral density was measured at the 10 sites with the highest implantation rate, classified using K-mean cluster analysis based on bone height and bone mineral density.Results According to the cluster analysis, 10 sites were classified into three clusters. Significant differences in bone height and bone mineral density were detected between these three clusters (P<0.05). The greatest bone height was obtained in cluster 2, followed by cluster 1 and cluster 3. The highest bone mineral density was found in cluster 3, followed by cluster 1 and cluster 2.Conclusion CBCT plays an important role in pre-surgical treatment planning. CBCT is helpful in identifying safe and stable implantation sites for palatal anchorage.
Morphological evaluation of the nasopalatine canal using cone beam computed tomography and its clinical implications for orthodontic miniscrew insertion

Abstract:Background: The morphology of the nasopalatine canal is crucial in the planning of prosthetic restorations in the anterior region of the maxilla, as well as in the placement of orthodontic mini-implants. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the morphology of the nasopalatine canal using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of patients from the University Dental Clinic in Krakow, Poland, to define the position of the canal in relation to common sites of palatal median microimplant placement, and to investigate potential correlations between the anatomy of the canal and age and gender of the patients. Material and methods: A total of 120 CBCT images were used to assess the anatomy of the nasopalatine canal in 3 planes of space. The bone thickness anterior to the nasopalatine canal and the distance between the distal margin of Stenson's foramen and the predicted midpalatal microimplant position were also measured. Results: The most frequently observed canal type in the coronal plane was the Y-shaped canal, which was present in 60.8% of patients. The nasopalatine canal was classified as cone-shaped in 31.7% of the scans, cylindrical in 28.3%, hourglass-shaped in 27.5%, and banana-shaped in 12.5%. The mean length of the nasopalatine canal was 11.58 mm. The mean width of the canal was 2.89 mm at the nasal fossa level, 1.94 mm in the middle, and 5.09 mm at the palatal level. The mean bone thickness anterior to the nasopalatine canal was 9.07 mm at the level of the nasal opening, 6.84 mm at the level of the oral opening, and 7.32 mm in the middle. The mean distance between the distal margin of Stenson's foramen and the predicted midpalatal microimplant position varied from 0 to 11.94 mm, with a mean of 2.49 mm. Conclusions: Given the variety of nasopalatine canal forms and dimensions, detailed analysis of CBCT scans is essential prior to the placement of implants and microimplants.
Assessment of Buccal and Palatal Alveolar Bone Thickness in Maxillary Anterior Teeth on Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Abstract:Introduction: Evaluating the dimensions of buccal and palatal alveolar bone in the anterior maxillary teeth is very important in patients who are candidates for immediate implant replacement. The aim of this study was Assessment of buccal and palatal alveolar bone thickness in maxillary anterior teeth on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials & Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 78 CBCT images of patients referred to Radiology Department of Khorasgan Dental Faculty were evaluated. The collected data included the measurement of the bone thickness of the alveolar buccal and palatal anterior maxillary teeth at three locations of the crest, the middle region of the root and apex with the Sidexis software. Then, the measurements were compared between males and females. The data were analyzed by T-test statistical methods. Results: The mean thickness of the buccal alveolar bone in the crest region and the middle region of the central, lateral and canine teeth was less than 1 mm. The mean thickness of the buccal alveolar bone at the apex site of the central, lateral and canine teeth was more than one mm. The mean thickness of the palatal alveolar bone in the crest region of the central, lateral and canine teeth was less than one millimeters. The mean thickness of the palatal alveolar bone in the middle region of the root and apex was more than one mm. There was no statistically significant difference between the sex and thickness of the buccal alveolar bone, except at the apex of the central and lateral teeth (p value > 0.05). Between sex and thickness of palatal alveolar bone, in the crest of lateral and canine teeth and in the middle root and apex area of all three central, lateral and canine teeth in men were significantly more than women (p value < 0.05). Conclusion: The buccal alveolar bone was present in most of the points examined at the crest and mid-root site, and the palatal alveolar bone was at the crest site at most checked points with a thickness of less than 1 mm.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to evaluate how interradicular spaces measured on panoramic radiograph compare with Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), and how crowding can influence the presence of available space for miniscrew insertion, in order to define a new "safe zones" map. Methods: A total of 80 pre-treatment panoramic radiographs and 80 CBCT scans with corresponding digital models were selected from the archives of the department of Dentistry, Aarhus University. Crowding was measured on digital models, while interradicular spaces mesial to the second molars were measured on panoramic radiographs and CBCTs. For panoramic radiographs, a magnification factor was calculated using tooth widths measured on digital models. Statistical analyses were performed to investigate the correlation between the amount of crowding and the available interradicular space. Visual maps showing the amount of interradicular spaces measured were drawn. Results: The most convenient interradicular spaces are those between the second molar and the first premolar in the mandible, and between the central incisors in the maxilla. However, some spaces were revealed to be influenced by crowding. Conclusions: Calibration of panoramic radiographs is of utmost importance. Generally, panoramic radiographs underestimate the available space. Preliminary assessment of miniscrew insertion feasibility and the related selection of required radiographs can be facilitated using the new "safe zone" maps presented in this article.
Measurement of interadicular space for miniscrew insertion on cone beam computed tomography images

Abstract:Objective To measure the interradicular space between the mandibular second premolar and the first molar and the bone density around the circumference of miniscrews on cone beam computed tomography images(CBCT).Methods CBCT images from 38 patients were selected from Renkang Dentistry Centre,Macao.For each subject,the interradicular spaces between the mandibular second premolar and the first molar,and the buccolingual bone thickness on the median sagittal plane were measured at 4 different levels of 10.0,12.0,4.0 and 16.0mm from the reference plane and 4 angles of 30°,45°,60° and 90°.The postulating miniscrews were inserted where bone thickness was at least 6.0mm.The bone density around the miniscrew was measured.Results The mean of the bone thickness of the insertion site was more than 6.0mm.For each insertion level,the highest bone density was found when the miniscrew was inserted at 30°,followed by 45°.Conclusion Insertion of miniscrew at 30° may obtain better implant stability.
Reliability and safety of miniscrew insertion planning with the use of lateral cephalograms assessed on corresponding cone-beam computer tomography images

Abstract:Background/ObjectivesRecently, lateral cephalograms have been proposed for guided miniscrew insertion planning. Therefore, the aim was to assess the reliability and safety of such planning on corresponding cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT) images.Materials/MethodsIntraoral scans, lateral cephalograms, and CBCT images of 52 subjects (even sexes distribution), aged 15.1 ± 2.5 years, were included. Miniscrew ( n = 104) insertion planning was performed using lateral cephalograms superimposed on the maxillary intraoral scans, while the assessment of their bicortical placement, length in bone, contact with adjacent teeth, incisive canal, and nasal floor perforation was done on corresponding superimposed CBCT images. Moreover, maxillary incisor inclination, crowding, and the maxillary intercanine width were measured.ResultsThe overall miniscrew length in bone was 7.2 ± 1.3mm. Bicortical placement was seen in 58.7% of the sample (38.5% of subjects). Incisive canal and nasal floor perforation was seen in 25% and 21.2% of subjects, respectively. No contact of the miniscrew with adjacent teeth was recorded. A negative significant interaction was seen between the miniscrew length in bone, the percentage of total miniscrew length and maxillary anterior teeth crowding (β, −0.10, P = .047 and β, −0.90, P = .006, respectively). Moreover, a positive significant interaction was seen between the incisive canal perforation and maxillary anterior teeth crowding (OR = 1.32, P = .021).LimitationsExclusion of subjects with impacted teeth.ConclusionsMiniscrew insertion planning using lateral cephalograms, despite being safe in preventing contact with adjacent teeth, is limited in achieving bicortical placement and insufficient in completely avoiding incisive canal and nasal floor perforation.

Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the overall bone thickness (OBT) and cortical bone thickness (CBT) of mandibular symphysis and to determine the optimal sites for the insertion of orthodontic mini implants. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 32 patients were included in this study. The sample was further categorized into three facial types: low-, average-, and high-angle. OBT and CBT were measured at the mandibular symphysis region. All measurements were performed at six different heights from the cementoenamel junction [CEJ] and at seven different angles to the occlusal plane. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for statistical comparison and a p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Our results revealed that neither OBT nor CBT was influenced by age or sex, except for the observation that CBT was significantly greater in adults than in adolescents. OBT and CBT were significantly greater in low-angle cases than in average- and high-angle cases. Both OBT and CBT were significantly influenced by insertion locations, heights and angles, and their interactions. CBT and OBT were greatest at the location between two lower central incisors, and became greater with increases in insertion height and angle. Both recommended and optimal insertion sites were mapped. The mandibular symphysis region was suitable for the placement of orthodontic mini implants. The optimal insertion site was 6-10 mm apical to the CEJ between two lower central incisors, with an insertion angle being 0-60 degrees to the occlusal plane.

Abstract:Introduction: The maxillary anterior region is becoming a major concern due to its aesthetic relevance. The buccal bone thickness is important for implant placement, orthodontic treatment and restorative treatment. Objective: To assess the thickness of alveolar bone in the maxillary central incisor using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted at Department of Dental Surgery, Bir Hospital where CBCT of 53 samples from July 2019 till December 2019, the archived CBCT images was assessed retrospectively. The thickness of the labial bone in a direction perpendicular to the outer surface of the tooth root was measured at a distance of 2 mm from the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). The measurement was taken thrice and the mean measurement was considered. Results: The labial alveolar bone thickness in maxillary central incisor was found to be 0.55±0.27 mm at a distance of 2 mm from the CEJ. Only 2 (3.8%) of the samples had an alveolar thickness of >1 mm. No statistically significant difference was found with respect to gender and age. Conclusion: The average thickness of the labial alveolar bone in maxillary central incisor using cone beam computed tomography was found to be thin.
