Abstract:Ensuring a high quality of educational and scientific activity is one of the main tasks for university management, which becomes especially significant in wartime conditions. The results of scientific research and mechanisms worked out in practice to ensure the effectiveness of the university functioning and anti-crisis management techniques in wartime may become impractical, as they are usually considered relatively stable and even predictable in the short term by the external environment and regular internal communications. Therefore, the study aims to systematize managerial decisions and measures and conduct a SWOT analysis of the university’s functioning in war conditions when external risks are at their maximum level.Based on the accumulated experience of Sumy State University management, which continued its activities even when russian invaders surrounded the city, it demonstrated effective work in 2022 and 2023. It became possible thanks to the pre-war management system, coordination of the work of all structural divisions, and constant information of all participants in the educational process through an internal information system and electronic document management. The critical threats to the university’s functioning in the future have been determined based on the conducted SWOT analysis. The developed methods and mechanisms of university management could not be fully applied in war conditions; the management’s ability to make non-standard decisions is essential; the state of the university depends on the distance to the war zone, as well as the institutional conditions developed in the pre-war period; the university’s presence in international rankings expanded cooperation with international partners and provided many significant advantages in supporting the university’s educational and scientific activities; the prerequisites for the university’s financial stability in wartime are careful analysis and strict control of the economic situation.

Abstract:Conflicts and natural disasters affect entire populations of the countries involved and, in addition to the thousands of lives destroyed, have a substantial negative impact on the scientific advances these countries provide. The unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are just a few examples. Millions of people have been killed or displaced, their futures uncertain. These events have resulted in extensive infrastructure collapse, with loss of electricity, transportation, and access to services. Schools, universities, and research centers have been destroyed along with decades' worth of data, samples, and findings. Scholars in disaster areas face short- and long-term problems in terms of what they can accomplish now for obtaining grants and for employment in the long run. In our interconnected world, conflicts and disasters are no longer a local problem but have wide-ranging impacts on the entire world, both now and in the future. Here, we focus on the current and ongoing impact of war on the scientific community within Ukraine and from this draw lessons that can be applied to all affected countries where scientists at risk are facing hardship. We present and classify examples of effective and feasible mechanisms used to support researchers in countries facing hardship and discuss how these can be implemented with help from the international scientific community and what more is desperately needed. Reaching out, providing accessible training opportunities, and developing collaborations should increase inclusion and connectivity, support scientific advancements within affected communities, and expedite postwar and disaster recovery.

Abstract:Annotation. The article examines the peculiarities of the mental health, well-being and lifestyle of students of various specialties during wartime, with an emphasis on medical students. The study aims to assess the characteristics of behavioral factors, the educational process and students' mental health in the dynamics during the war. In April-June 2022 and 2023, an online survey of students of 12 universities of Ukraine (n=415, female gender 57.4%, average age 17.9±0.03 years) was conducted. QRAPH, RCADS-25, and CATS questionnaires were used. The article presents the results of variance analysis, analyzed conjugation tables, conducted correlation analysis using the STATISTICA 8.0 program. Odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval (CI) were calculated using MedCalc. In 2023, 30.8±2.7% of students had signs of anxiety, 33.9±2.8% had signs of depression, and 42.2±2.9% had signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The largest proportion of persons with anxiety and depression was among medical students (52.8±5.9%). A trend towards a decrease in anxiety and depressive symptoms among students of all majors compared to the previous year was revealed. Additionally, there was a significant decrease in the proportion of students with clinical signs of PTSD by 10.8% (χ2=6.4; p<0.05). In 2023, there was also a decrease in the duration of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sleep and an increase in light physical activity and sedentary behavior. It was found that 60 min/day of MVPA reduced the chances of developing depressive symptoms by 2.7 times (p<0.001). For anxiety disorders, this probability was 1.8 times (p<0.01). The obtained results indicate the importance of maintaining mental health and an active lifestyle among students, especially during wartime. In order to preserve the health and working capacity of students, it is necessary to carry out constant monitoring of both behavioral factors and indicators of mental health with the development and implementation of hypodynamia preventive measures.

Abstract:The prolonged war in Ukraine is having a strong impact on all sectors of the Ukrainian society, including biomedical research. Although the material and psychological conditions are challenging, the country and its researchers are courageously managing to continue their activities. This perspective paper describes the multiple challenges faced by Ukrainian biomedical researchers during wartime and outlines strategies to support and enhance collaboration with the global scientific community. Ukraine has a rich scientific history and modern expertise in biomedical research, and developing more international collaborations with Ukraine can have mutual benefits for all involved parties.

Abstract:It is crucially important, before I even begin writing anything else, to emphasize that I am an Estonian and I live in Estonia, a small country situated next to Russia. Although we live in a constant state of psychological warfare, strategic information disorder, and intimidation, I can sleep every night without fear of bombs hitting my house or hordes of violent soldiers brutally attacking my hometown. This article is written from a position of privilege that many Ukrainians do not currently have. A Ukrainian could probably write a more valuable article on this topic. Nevertheless, I stumbled upon valuable research data (54 social media disconnection diaries from February to March 2022) and, here, discuss the entanglements of different roles in academia, teaching, and working with young people. I unwrap the role conflicts I experienced as a youth researcher, teacher, activist, and human and offer a frame of analysis from research on coping strategies and stress responses. Abstract:The events of October 7, 2023, marked a turning point for Israel, plunging the nation into a state of existential dread and uncertainty due to an ongoing conflict. The nursing profession is multifaceted and can encompass simultaneously diverse roles within various settings, including direct patient care, education, and research. In regular times, there is a delicate balance between mastering these three roles. Yet, in times of war, there is a threat to this balance. The manuscript highlights the personal, unique struggles of nursing doctoral students balancing clinical duties, teaching responsibilities, and research commitments during a war. The authors reflect on their experiences and challenges related to clinical-professional, academic, and personal dimensions as doctoral students. The manuscript highlights the connection between significant events and the resilience and determination among nursing doctoral students and future generations of academics. It provides recommendations to help attenuate the additional stresses experienced by nurses during war. These interventions will not mitigate the complexity and challenges of juggling our multiple professional roles. However, the awareness of these challenges can lead to growth and achievement in patient care, professional and personal development, and academic excellence.

Abstract:The study deals with the communication without barriers and its peculiarities of use. The author's attitude to the current events, in which Ukraine has found itself. It formulates and outlines such categories-concentrations as "the poor and the rich", "perception of the world", "volunteer movement", "the native word", "the defenders and the defenders", on which, in the opinion of the author, individual and barrier-free communication in the conditions of the war in war is built. Describes motivation as a crushing force that contributes to enhancement. Implicit nativism is synthesized through perception in the symbolism of the artistic word. Thus, the polyphonic sounding is supplemented by folklore and ritual and confessional means of expression in the projection on the realities of modern life. The aim of the research was the necessity to create such a universal image of a modern Ukrainian in the context of war, to write his psychological portrait on the basis of emotions, experiences and behavior, which through the prism of social and spiritual communication will help to understand why and how we manage to communicate with the world. In the work the descriptive method is used, as well as with maximum objectivity the method of observation and logics of interaction of the components of daily communication is used. The results of the research are based on the principle of conventional analogy. Modern communication is impossible without the maximization of humanity, it must be acumulative. Ukrainians present to the world - we protect our own homes, fight for our native land, believe in a bright future for millions of Ukrainian families.

Abstract:The purpose of the article is to reveal the main trends of the scientific and methodological activity of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The research methodology consists in the application of normative, alternative, socio-communicative, systemic and structural-functional approaches, methods of analysis, synthesis and generalization, cognitive, the relationship between theory and practice. The scientific novelty of the presented work enriches modern ideas about the essence, content and directions of the scientific and methodological activity of the leading scientific and information complex of the state in the conditions of war. Three groups of factors are presented, which have a decisive influence on the functioning of Ukrainian library practice: social and political conditions, technological and personnel. Conclusions. In the conditions of martial law, the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine is successfully implementing a new model of scientific and methodological activity – scientific and communication, based on library interaction and communication, information and monitoring. Scientific and methodological activity in today’s complex realities is purposefully focused on improving the work of the library network of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, systematically works to improve the professional level of academic librarians, productively promotes the assets of Ukrainian scientists in the national electronic environment and successfully integrates the achievements of Ukrainian science into a consolidated information space.

Abstract:Since its establishment, the main idea of the Kharkiv Living Lab has centered around the co-creation and dissemination of knowledge and innovative values related to children food. In the aftermath of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Kharkiv Children's Living Lab has been transformed to adapt to the exigencies of wartime, and the primary focus shifted towards ensuring food sustainability during the war. The Kharkiv Living Lab reformulated its key principles, prioritizing transnationality, reactivity, and volunteerism. The activities undertaken by the Kharkiv Living Lab during the war time constitute a distinctive and unprecedented experience of implementing a Living Lab during war time, illustrating how «locality» and «globality» are cooperating to tackle food-related challenges during the war, and how a new quality of social ties emerges among diverse local actors, thereby contributing to the strengthening of social cohesion in the face of profound adversity. The activities of the Kharkiv Living Lab are a unique, if not the first, experience of the implementation of the Living Lab during the war, which demonstrated how «locality» and «globality» cooperate in the context of food support tasks, and how a new quality of social ties is created between different by local actors, which strengthens social cohesion in difficult times of trial. In this context, the Kharkiv Living Lab is an example of building a small integration system based on the principles of social interaction and cohesion. After all, the main task of the Kharkiv Living Lab is the joint and mutual creation, distribution and exchange of knowledge, innovative values, established social practices regarding children's nutrition. The involvement of students of Kharkiv secondary education institutions, their parents, teaching staff and the administration made it possible to create an innovative and permanent platform for the exchange of knowledge with their further integration into a common «knowledge bank», which is formed and supported by a consortium of partners of the international research project FUSILLI, which is focused on building food stability.
NanoEthics : Studies of New and Emerging Technologies Misconceptions of synthetic biology : Lessons from an interdisciplinary summer school

Abstract:In 2014, an international group of scholars from various fields analysed the “societal dimensions" of synthetic biology in an interdisciplinary summer school. Here we report and discuss the biologists’ observations on the general perception of synthetic biology by non-biologists who took part in this event. Most attendees mainly associated synthetic biology with contributions from the best-known public figures of the field, rarely mentioning other scientists. Media extrapolations of those contributions appeared to have created unrealistic expectations and irrelevant fears that were widely disconnected from current research in synthetic biology. Abstract:The events of World War II and its component – the German-Soviet War do not lose their significance more than 75 years after its end and remain a field for fraught scientific debate in the society. Historical lessons of the past tragedy must be studied from all angles and interpreted objectively. The European choice of Ukraine stimulates the national scientists not to ignore thorough military historical research of the specialists from near and far abroad, and results of this objective studies must be taken into consideration in the contemporary Ukrainian historical discourse. Characteristics and evaluations of the foreign colleagues are not only important in view of reconstruction of the historical events, but also from the scientific and cognitive perspectives of research of World War II, overcoming various myths and political prejudices. In retrospective evaluations, the information contained in the article concerns security of the contemporary Ukraine, as far as it demonstrates what political, military and propaganda tools can be implemented by an aggressor. The article reveals a wide range of problems: political and diplomatic maneuvers of the USSR and Germany on the eve of the war, strategic plans of the Workers and Peasants’ Red Army and the Wehrmacht, events on the German-Soviet front in June-December 1941, which are covered in foreign historiography, first of all, in the Anglo-American and German one. The authors of the publication rely on significant source material represented in foreign publications, unbiased analysis of facts and events and their original interpretation. The scientific basis for writing this article were the works by famous politicians W. Churchill, F. Roosevelt, M. Albright, etc. The authors of the article rely in their research on the representative legacy of the historians from far-abroad countries: B. Liddel Hart, A. Clark, W. Shirer, O. Werth, P. Carell, L. Deighton, B. Alexander, D. Glantz, G. Jacobsen, M. Hastings, T. Hunchak, S. Yekelchyk, which contains significant informative material. The publication considers important scientific investigations of the specialists from the neighboring countries: D. Volkonogov, V. Karpov, V. Anfilov, R. Irenarkhov, V. Deynis, Yu. Gorkov, O. Isaiev, V. Runov, V. Sherstnev, B. Shaptalov, etc. The mentioned authors have managed, to a large extent, to free the history of the war from Soviet stereotypes, to use the sources of the Archive of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, which were declassified only in the post-Soviet time. To form the authors’ vision, memoirs of the military and political elite of Reich III – J. Goebbels, H. Rauschning, F. Halder, W. Keitel, Е. Manstein, H. Guderian, H. Hoth, K. Tippelskirch, G. Blumentritt, etc. – were involved. The authors of the article arrived at the conclusion that the science of contemporary military-historical research in Ukraine clearly contrasts with the existing foreign narratives. Therefore, foreign experience and historical practices of the colleagues from near and far abroad enable to expand drastically the field for scientific discourse, to fill it with the meaningful material and from the point of pluralism of opinions, to give the right answers for the problematic issues.
Studying of psycholinguistic features of doctors' professional communication under war conditions

Abstract:Objective: Aim: Studying of psycholinguistic features of doctors' communication competence in Ukraine under war conditions. Patients and methods: Materials and Methods: Bibliosemantic method; method of system analysis, comparison and generalization; empirical methods - direct observation of the doctors' and patients' living language, typology of empirical data according to socio-demographic indicators. Results: Results: Within the study, 286 dialogues were collected. With voluntary consent, they were recorded in video and audio formats in compliance with ethical, bioethical, and legal norms. Next, initial typology of dialogues, their lexical and semantic analysis with identification of typical positive and negative communicative strategies were carried out. With the help of the ≪Textanz≫ specialized computer software, 48 dialogues were subjected to the content analysis procedure for two separate ≪Doctors≫ and ≪Patients≫ samples. Conclusion: Conclusions: The results of the analysis of ≪Doctor-Patient≫ dialogues enabled identifying and describing psycholinguistic markers of typical physiological, mental, social, and spiritual states of individuals seeking medical help under martial law. Thus, the markers of positive emotional states (optimism, confidence, empathy, etc.) and affective, negative emotional processes (anxiety, fear, anger, aggression, sadness, depression, etc.) were identified.

Abstract:The study of media viruses and memes that have emerged as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine represents a relevant interdisciplinary approach that brings together philology, cultural studies, history, psychology, social communications and social sciences. Memes ("bavovna", "zeleni cholovichky") have become not only symbols-viruses, but also effective means of mass communication and expression of national identity. The study of memes includes the following aspects: a selection of headline titles with a meme component, analysis of their semantics; disclosure of the social and cultural context and history of events that led to their emergence; study of perceptions and reactions to memes, their impact; determination of the role of memes in order to form public consciousness. The study of the "bavovna" and "zeleni cholovichky" memes was carried out on the basis of online media headlines in Ukrainian, Polish, Lithuanian and English, which provides a wide range of analysis and clarification of the impact of these memes on different cultures and societies, interpretation of events and realities related to the war in Ukraine. The use of memes as components of media headlines demonstrates the importance of the information space and its impact on the perception of geopolitical events and threats. The media use these symbols to emphasise the seriousness of issues, shape positions, and provoke discussion. This approach helps to understand better the important factors of society, the relationship with historical events and political realities, the specifics of the emergence of new memes, algorithms for their transformation into viruses, and the peculiarities of development, spread and transformation in social media.
