Abstract:Objective: In our study, we aimed to adapt the Suicide Crisis Inventory (SCI), which can be used specifically to assess the acute phase of suicide, to the Turkish population by examining its Turkish validity and reliability in a non-clinical sample. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 300 university students aged 18-24 years were evaluated online using the Socio-demographic and Clinical Data Form, the SCI, and the Suicide Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ). Criterion validity, discriminative validity, and factor analyses (exploratory and confirmatory) were conducted for the validity of the SCI, and internal consistency and item-total correlations were examined for reliability analyses. Additionally, a linear regression model was constructed to assess the predictive validity of the SCI. The predictive validity of past SCI scores was evaluated using a simple regression model. Results: When the linear regression model was tested with SCI scores as the independent variable and SBQ scores as the dependent variable [F(1-298) = 203.625; P = .000], it was found that the independent variable explained 41% of the variance in the dependent variable (r = 0.637; r 2 = 0.406). SCI scores significantly predicted SBQ scores (t = 14.270; B = 0.047; Bsth = 0.003; β = 0.647; P = .000). In the validity analysis, the items removed from the scale could be evaluated for the total score, as they did not belong to any factor as originally specified. When items were removed, the total item reliability was Cronbach's alpha = 0.981. Conclusion: We believe that the SCI will be a useful tool in assessing short-term suicide risk in a Turkish sample and in conducting scientific research. The SCI was found to be sufficient for use in a Turkish sample for the evaluation of short-term suicide risk, considering some limitations.

Abstract:IntroductionThe Lower Extremity Functional Scale is a widely used questionnaire to evaluate the functional impairment in lower extremities. To date, the Lower Extremity Functional Scale has not been translated into Turkish. The aim of this study is to translate and culturally adapt the Lower Extremity Functional Scale into a Turkish version, and evaluate the psychometric properties of this version in patients with knee injuries.Materials and methodsThe translation of the English version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale into a Turkish version was performed using standard guidelines. Validity and reliability of Turkish version were tested in 134 patients with knee injuries. Association level between other outcomes measures (Kujala Patellofemoral Score, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale and a Visual Analog Scale) and Turkish version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale was analyzed to assess validation. Participants completed the questionnaire at baseline and after 2 days to test reliability.ResultsThe Turkish version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale was showed a high degree of internal consistency (Cronbach α = 0.93). ICCs were 0.96 and no floor or ceiling effects. The Lower Extremity Functional Scale had a high level of association with the Kujala Patellofemoral Score (r = 0.82), Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale (r = 0.80) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index scores (r = 0.69) (all, p < 0.05).ConclusionThe Turkish version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale is a valid and reliable questionnaire that can be used to evaluate functional status in Turkish speaking patients with different knee disorders.Level of evidence: III.

Abstract:Context: People with chronic or long-term pain may develop various psychosocial symptoms such as fear and avoidance of behavior due to pain. Reliable and valid quality of life tools must be available in Turkish to specifically assess avoidance of behavior in people with shoulder pain. Objectives: This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Avoidance of Daily Activities Photo Scale for Patients with Shoulder Pain and to evaluate the psychometric properties of its Turkish version (ADAP-Tr) in patients with shoulder pain. Methods: Translation, adaptation, and validation were performed according to the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) guidelines. The internal consistency, reliability, construct validity, and discriminant validity of the ADAP-Tr were tested. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) were applied for validation purposes. Results: The study included a total of 162 participants with shoulder pain. The internal consistency of the ADAP-Tr showed excellent reliability with a Cronbach's α of 0.94 and a test-retest assessment of 0.88 ICC (95% CI, 0.83-0.91). The standard error of measurement was 1.85 points, and the minimal detectable change was determined 5.12 points. There was a low to high correlation among the ADAP-Tr and PCS (r = 0.481, p < .001), TSK (r = 0.448, p < .001), and SPADI (r = 0.826, p < .001) scores. Conclusions: The ADAP-Tr was shown to be a valid and strong reliability tool to use in clinical and research settings as a shoulder-specific measurement tool.

Abstract:Background/aim: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) cause decreased quality of life due to prolonged hospital stay, loss of workforce, disabilities, psychological trauma, and increased healthcare costs. This study aims to assess the validity and reliability of the Diabetic Foot Scale-Short Form (DFS-SF) for Turkish-speaking individuals with DFUs. Materials and methods: This was a methodological study conducted with 174 Turkish patients with DFUs from March 2020 to December 2020. Translation-back translation was performed for language equivalence and expert opinions were obtained for content validity. The scale's construct validity was tested with confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and known-group validity. Cronbach's alpha was used to evaluate internal consistency. Correlation of the DFS-SF with the SF-36 was used to test criterion validity. The scale was then revised according to the TRIPOD checklist. Results: The content validity index value was 0.93 and Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.93 to 0.97. The scale maintained its six-factor structure and the factor loadings ranged from 0.52 to 0.86. The fit indices of the model revealed good validity. The correlations (r = 0.43-0.76, p < 0.001) and known-group comparisons supported the construct validity. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the DFS-SF is a reliable tool for measuring the quality of life of people suffering from DFUs.

Abstract:Background: Older patients with diabetes have behaviors and practices in foot care that differ from those of younger patients. There is a need for a tool to assess the foot care of patients with diabetes who are over the age of 65 years. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the long and short versions of the Foot Care Scale for Older Diabetics (FCS-OD) in Turkish society. Methods: A total of 172 older patients with diabetes participated in the study. Language validity, content validity, construct validity, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient value, item-scale correlations, parallel form reliability, and test-retest correlations were used to assess the Turkish version of FCS-OD. A patient identification form, FCS-OD, Diabetic Foot Care Self-Efficacy Scale, and Foot Self-Care Behavior Scale were used for data collection. Results: Turkish versions of the FCS-OD, both short and long versions, were at acceptable levels regarding their content (content validity index: 0.964, 0.975) and construct (factor loadings > 0.4). Both versions of the scale showed a high level of internal consistency as demonstrated by Cronbach’s alpha values (short version, 0.802; long version, 0.905) and item-scale correlations (> 0.3). Both versions of the scale were stable over time and compared to the parallel forms. Conclusions: Both versions of the scale were found to be valid and reliable for Turkish society with regard to psychometric properties.

Abstract:The aim of the study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of Central Sensitization Inventory-9 (CSI-9) in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The methodological study included 92 patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The original version of the CSI-9 was translated and culturally adapted into Turkish. The internal consistency and test-retest reliability were evaluated with Cronbach’s α and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. The assessment of reproducibility was conducted with the standard error of measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable difference (MDD) values. Convergent validity was explored by correlation analysis between the CSI-9 and Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI-25), Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), and European Quality of Life Survey-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D). The structural validity was assessed with factor analysis. Floor and ceiling effects were also analyzed. We found a very good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α of 0.83) and excellent test-retest reliability (ICC of 0.96) of the Turkish CSI-9. The SEM demonstrated a range between 0.19 and 1.12, and the MDD was observed to vary from 1.17 to 1.35. The CSI-9 correlated significantly with the CSI-25 ( r = 0.77, P < 0.001), the pain severity subscale of the BPI ( r = 0.41 to 0.53, P < 0.001), the pain interference subscale of the BPI ( r = 0.21 to 0.58, P = 0.02 to P < 0.001), the EQ-5D ( r = 0.24 to 0.48, P < 0.05), and the EQ-5D visual analog scale ( r = −0.41, P < 0.001). One factor was identified within the CSI-9. Our data suggest that the Turkish CSI-9 is reliable and valid outcome measure for assessing CS in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

Abstract:Aim The aim of this study was to conduct a Turkish validity and reliability study of the Gerontological Nursing Competence Scale and to adapt the scale to Turkish culture. Background As the number of older people increses, gerontological nursing requires specialized expertise in older people care. High-quality basic education and further education guarantee good competence in gerontological care. Design A methodological study of instrument translation and validation Methods The study was methodological and the sample consisted of 530 university students who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected by online interview method using the Introductory Information Form and Gerontological Nursing Competence Scale (GeroNursingCom). Before starting the study, permission was obtained from the ethics committee, the relevant institution, the scale owner and the students. Language equivalence and content validity of the scale were ensured and Confirmatory Factor Analysis Models (CFA) was conducted. Cronbach Alpha and item-total correlation analysis were used for the reliability of the scale. Results The scale was compatible in terms of linguistic fidelity Content Validity Index (CVI) (Language)=0.97 and content fidelity CVI (Content)=0.96. The CFA results showed that the χ 2/ sd value was 1.861 and since this value was less than three, it can be stated that the model provided an excellent fit to the data. Comparative Fit Index (CFI) and Non-normalized Fit Index (NNFI) values were determined as 0.99 and 0.99 respectively and these values being above 0.90 indicate that the model provides an excellent fit to the data. Square Root of Standardized Errors (SRMR) index was 0.045 and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) index was 0.040 and these values were less than 0.080, indicating that the model provided an excellent fit to the data. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of 0.97 was found to be highly reliable and the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients calculated for the sub-dimensions ranged between 0.77 and 0.91. Conclusions It was determined that the gerontological nursing competence scale is valid and reliable for nursing students and can be used in both student and working nurses living in Turkey.

Translation and Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Donor Site Morbidity Questionnaire Into Turkish

Abstract:This study aimed to translate the ACL Donor Site Morbidity (ACL-DSM) questionnaire into Turkish and assess the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the ACL-DSM questionnaire (ACL-DSM-Tr) among individuals following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The process involved forward and back-translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of the ACL-DSM-Tr questionnaire on ninety-nine patients (mean age 30.73 ± 8.55 years). Participants completed ACL-DSM-Tr, International Knee Documentary Committee (IKDC) subjective form, ACL Return to Sport (ACL-RSI), and Forgotten Joint Scale (FJS) questionnaires. The internal consistency, reliability, and validity of the ACL-DSM-Tr were analyzed. The ACL-DSM-Tr demonstrated a high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha .755) and excellent test-retest reliability (Spearman correlation r = .811, p < .001; Cronbach's alpha .890). The ACL-DSM-Tr score exhibited a strong positive correlation with the IKDC score (r = .690, p < .001) and a moderate positive correlation with the FJS score (r = .535, p < .001). Despite a fair correlation between ACL-DSM-Tr and ACL- RSI subgroup scores, no significant correlation was observed with the ACL-RSI total score (p = .297). In conclusion, the ACL-DSM-Tr demonstrated internal consistency, reliability, and validity in patients with ACL reconstruction. This questionnaire has the potential to yield significant benefits in monitoring patient satisfaction and evaluating the level of comfort experienced at the donor site following ACL reconstruction.

Abstract:The Quality of Life Profile for spinal deformities (QLPSD) was developed to evaluate the quality of life of patients with scoliosis and other spinal deformities. The purpose of the study was to systematically translate the QLPSD into Turkish and examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version. This methodological study was conducted with 125 participants with idiopathic scoliosis. After the translation of the QLPSD into Turkish systematically, all participants answered the Turkish version of the QLPSD (T-QLPSD) and Scoliosis Research Society-22 items (SRS-22) questionnaires. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's α statistics were used to test the reliability of the tools: convergent and construct validity of the tools was assessed using exploratory factor analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis. One hundred twenty-five participants were included in the study. The mean age of them was 13.7 ± 2.2 years. For the T-QLPSD total score, Cronbach's α was 0.91, and the ICC was 0.94. A very good correlation was found between T-QLPSD and SRS-22 total scores (r = -0.71). Participants with mild scoliosis reported less back pain (P = .038), better back flexibility (P=.001), and body image (P=.044) compared to moderate scoliosis. The T-QLPSD was found to be a reliable and valid scale for assessing quality of life in idiopathic scoliotic patients in Türkiye.

Abstract:To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Ottawa Sitting Scale (OSS) developed for acute care patients into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors.After translation process the Turkish version of the scale was adminstered to eighty-one patients aged 39–82 years after discharge from the ICU and videotape was recorded. Two physiotherapists watched the videotaped records during the evaluation and scored. Test-retest reliability was assesed by scoring the same video recordings 15 days after the initial scoring. Correlations of the OSS with Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Functional Independence Measurement (FIM), the ICU length of stay and, total mechanical ventilation duration were assessed for convergent validity.The intra-class correlation coefficient for inter and intra-rater reliability was 0.989–0.994 and 0.998 respectively. The internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's α = 0.998). The OSS score was highly correlated with the BBS total score (r = 0.716), the BBS unsupported sitting item score (r = 0.863), and moderately correlated with the total score of the FIM (r = 0.602), the number of days in ICU (r= −0.545), and total mechanical ventilation duration (r = −0.518).The Turkish version of OSS has been found to be valid and reliable in assessment of sitting balance in patients discharged from intensive care unit.Physiotherapeutic measurements are crucial and necessary to determine the functional status of the patients.Ottawa Sitting Scale was translated and culturally adapted to Turkish and showed good psychometric propertiesOttawa Sitting Scale is valid and reliable tool to evaluate sitting balance in intensive care unit survivors.Ottawa Sitting Scale can guide clinicians in establishing evaluation and rehabilitation programs for patients discharged from intensive care unit.

Psychometric Properties of Turkish Versions of the Short Video Flow Scale and Short Video Addiction Scale

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the Short Video Flow Scale (SVFS) and the Short Video Addiction Scale (SVAS) in terms of validity and reliability, and adapt them to the Turkish culture. Method: The study was conducted with the survey model. The sample group consisted of 297 high school students selected by convenience sampling method. During the translation process of SVFS and SVAS, the stages recommended by the International Test Commission were taken into account. Results: Reliability analyses of the scales were carried out with the Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient. Reliability coefficient was found to be .87 for SVFS and .82 for SVAS. Item discrimination was examined with item-total score correlation values. In addition, upper and lower 27% groups were created in the data set and the significance level of the difference between the groups was tested. In order to examine the criterion validity of SVFS and SVAS, the Multiple Screen Addiction Scale and the Phubbing Scale were used and the correlations coefficients between the scales were calculated. Correlation coefficients ranged between .54 and .77. CFA technique was used to test the construct validity of SVFS and SVAS. The factor loadings varied between .56 and .76 for SVFS and between .45 and .72 for SVAS. Both SVFS and SVAS had a single-factor structure, which is consistent with their original versions. Conclusion: The Turkish form of SVFS and SVAS can be used to assess attitudes, feelings and behaviors of watching short videos.

Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Central Sensitization Inventory in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain

Abstract:Background: The Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) is a patient-reported screening instrument that can be used to identify and assess central sensitization (CS)/Central Sensitization Syndrome (CSS)-related symptoms. Objective: The aim was to translate the CSI into Arabic (CSI-Ar) and to subsequently validate its psychometric properties. Design: Cross-sectional. Methods: The CSI was translated and cross-culturally adapted into Arabic, and validated following international standardized guidelines. This study included patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain (n = 264) and healthy control participants (n = 56). Patients completed the CSI-Ar, Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Depression, Anxiety, and Stress scale (DASS-21), Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), and 5-level EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D). Patients completed the CSI-Ar twice to assess test-retest reliability. To evaluate discriminative validity, healthy controls participants completed the CSI-Ar. Statistical analyses were conducted to test the internal consistency, reliability, and structural, construct and discriminant validity of CSI-Ar. Results: The CSI-Ar showed acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.919) and excellent test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.874). The CSI-Ar scale had significant correlations (P < 0.001) with all PCS subscales and total score (Spearman's rho = 0.459-0.563, P < 0.001), all DASS-21 subscales and total score (Spearman's rho = 0.599-0.685, P < 0.001), the TSK (Spearman's rho = 0.395, P < 0.001), and the EQ-5D (Spearman's rho = -0.396, P < 0.001). The Mann-Whitney U-test showed a statistically significant difference between the patient group and the healthy control group (P < 0.001), with the healthy controls displaying a lower average CSI-Ar score (12.27 ± 11.50) when compared to the patient group (27.97 ± 16.08). Factor analysis indicated that the CSI-Ar is a unidimensional tool. Conclusion: The CSI-Ar is a reliable and valid screening tool that can be used to assess CS/CSS-related symptoms in Arabic-speaking people with chronic musculoskeletal pain.
