Abstract:Heart failure (HF) is a chronic cardiac condition characterized by poor sleep quality, depressive symptoms, poor quality of life (QoL), and frequent hospitalizations in adults. 1 Quality of life is an important patient-reported outcome that is strongly associated with hospitalization and death in patients with HF. 2 Black patients have higher incidence and prevalence of HF, report worse QoL, and have higher cardiac-related hospitalizations and mortality rates than White patients. 3,4 However, few investigators have addressed the relationship between race and QoL in patients with HF, and fewer still have examined potential mechanisms explaining these relationships.
